  1. Keep your expectations low. There has been virtually zero interest in the area over the last 30 years. I’m not sure how saddling developments with decades old debt (on the Coliseum) makes the area more enticing.
  2. I thought that about the flag weeks ago. The flag is actually on the roof of the current Dominion building. They haven’t topped out yet
  3. Just looked them up... Apparently they are the world’s largest publisher of travel guides.
  4. They publish travel guides and have a television series (has been on PBS for 20 years or more maybe?). It’s like Anthony Bourdain Unknown Parts but predates it by a few decades.
  5. I think it will be nicer softened up (trees and other plantings). Overall I like the Symbol development. It is kinda ugly (Rotterdam in the 80’s) but actually looks like a light industrial building which I think is a nice nod to the neighborhood.
  6. Whole Foods )nog much to see, just some fill... but for those out of town, this is what Broad Street looks like with Pleasant’s gone.
  7. A pretty massive (and shape-looking) infill project in Scott’s Addition...
  8. They were able to fit a lot more onto this small lot than I expected. I like the cluster.
  9. This here’s a box of apartments on Monument. And a box of infill in the Museum District (i like the elevation of these, lots of steps up to the door).
  10. Here are those condos that replaced the Westhampton theater (and a surface lot on the corner of Granite and Grove). And the on-again, off-again condos on Libbie
  11. I assumed the project in Fulton Hill would never happen. I was wrong I have more photos of the construction but in being told that the files are too large. Guess I’ll try to resize them...
  12. Here’s that VA Lottery sign I mentioned earlier... The Pulse stations are changing the look and scale of Broad Street (for the better, IMO).
  13. The new dorm on Main is a (lovely) monster The ICA is looking good The ICA is looking good
  14. I am loving this building. It is exceeding my expectations. The diagonal metal rods across the glass really place this in a “world class” category. It is on another level for Richmond high rises. The texture is a surprise. For lack of a better word, it’s fancy.
  15. Post Oklahoma City world Of course they will stay and the building will remain unchanged.... But they’d probably have an easier time securing a building in an office park than one in the center of the city. After OKC it was fortified, along with the federal reserve bank. The beauilful federal reserve used to sit on a grassy hill (well, it’s still on the grassy hill) surrounded by large magnolia trees. It was downright Athian (if Athans had grass lol). You could walk freely around the lawn and picnic in the shade, playing in the fountain was frowned upon but it wouldn’t get you taken out by a sniper lol. Alas, it’s all blast proof walls and fences now.
  16. Or, or, the Feds will simply move shop to any number of available buildings in the West End, perhaps one recently vacated by Dominion. Of course they could just as easily leave the Richmond metro. Earmarks are dead and the current administration in Washington likes to punish blue states as sport. Don’t expect the Feds to pony up one red cent just because Richmond wants to Short Pump it’s downtown.
  17. True that. But that is for the Feds to fret over, not a developer tasked with building an arena.
  18. There’s nothing wrong with the federal building. The front could use some landscaping (make it all hardscaped, no suburban grass). The size and location are fine. It’s even a decent looking building. Spending money to replace an existing building that doesn’t need replacing would be infuriating to me. The worst thing that could ever happen to Richmond is for a single developer to develop 6 or so contiguous blocks. There’s no better way to ruin a city.
  19. I saw the rendering this morning. BizSense maybe? Or are you looking fir the old one with the clock tower? That was a nice feature. It’s a shame they opted fir the cheap and stumpy “tower”.
  20. Agreed. Integrated and organic is key though.
