  1. I would be shocked if they did. Healthcare is notoriously reactive to the slightest shifts in revenue. It makes it very difficult for a regional healthcare organization to dedicate the savings needed to construct a large building for strictly administrative purposes. Also, donors don’t line up to donate to administrative offices. I think Spectrum, Mercy, Metro, Pine Rest, and MFB will be perpetual lessees when it comes to administrative offices.
  2. Coincidentally, AMI and Sanibel are two of my favorite places to go. No large resorts - just beach house and cottage rentals with the occasional 2-3 story hotel. If you want big city amenities, Bradenton and Fort Myers are close by.
  3. I wouldn’t live in Florida but I love to vacation there to escape the nineth circle of hell in February when the winter starts weighing on you. It’s cheap, guaranteed to be warm if you go to the southern end, has beautiful beaches (on the gulf), and is relaxing if you don’t go during spring break.
  4. This is unfortunate and is a brand of capitalism that really grinds my gears. At the risk of sounding political...Government is meant to work for its people as a whole, not serve as a perpetual form of income for the rich. I like the idea of this project and hope at some point in the future it goes through and is done in a sustainable way that benefits both the environment and the people of West Michigan. I don't want this to serve as a money maker for an apartment owner funded by taxpayers.
  5. Then again...The fishermen were staunchly against the rapids restoration as well and they seem to be moving full steam ahead with that.
  6. A major improvement from the current building. It looks like a combination of elements of the new office building at Studio Park and the courthouse.
  7. On April 9, the Ottawa County Board of Commissioners will consider an official policy stance on the dredging of the Grand River from the Bass River Inlet to Fulton Street to allow boats to traverse the river between Lake Michigan and downtown. Reading reactions online - it's pretty split down the middle between people that think it's the worst idea to ever be conceived by man and those that are all for it.
  8. My goodness...It's borderline...dare I saw it...perfect. Granted, it's still a rectangular box, but at least it has some substance to it. This is well executed and I hope it actually goes through. The tower is also going to be a nice compliment. Minus the random boxes, I really like it.
  9. This will be a major inconvenience for people for quite some time. I feel sorry for anyone that will be taking 131 down into the city each day. It will be a mess between 96 and 196 everyday. Unfortunately, these are inconveniences we need in order to bring our infrastructure up to the needs of a metro area that has increased in size at a rate of approximately 10,000 per year. We can only hope that we don't have another labor dispute that doubles the time needed to complete the project.
  10. No joke. I was driving on the Ohio Turnpike this week. The cement was not new, but the surface was in great shape. It was a pleasant driving experience - minus the police hiding behind the divider wall every 10 miles. I know we have bad winters that don't mix well with roads, but so do a lot of states in the Midwest. You get what you pay for and Michigan roads are a perfect example of the negative side of that rule.
  11. I'm surprised there weren't more takers. It's riverfront, downtown is expanding north along the river, a Creston area that is being revitalized is across the river...Seems odd that not a single developer was interested in it unless there's something about the site we don't know.
  12. Boberinos is pretty tame and has a pretty diverse menu. I’ve never known it to be a place full of drunks. Also, Bulls Head is a good one for families with a diverse menu.
  13. Interesting....This was unexpected....So it's basically a Dave and Busters with a bowling alley.
  14. From the Fox 17 article on it: "Officials say the slope at the top of the tower will remain, but the building will actually get a little taller."
  15. They did say it would be slightly taller...Maybe the steel structure is that increased height.
  16. I just saw it on Zillow. It has been posted for almost a year now. I wondered when they would break ground for it, but it looks like they're finally starting. I looked at their careers page today and they have zero job openings. Since they started setting up shop here, I can honestly say that I have never seen job postings for them anywhere. It is truly bizarre.
  17. Yeah...$349,000 seems like a reach considering the following: 1. They back up to an exit ramp at Broadmoor and M6. 2. It's surrounded by Davenport, farm land, industrial parks, and the airport. 3. It looks like it caters to professional younger people that would normally want to live more centrally in a large city. I could see these selling quickly in GR, EGR, or Ada, but it seems odd in Caledonia Township. But hey, what do I know? I'm no real estate expert - only someone that wishes he could be a part-time realtor as a fun side hustle. Maybe they're banking on the Switch pyramid bringing in knowledge-based professionals that want to live close to work.
  18. Townhome style condos are going to be built there. Prices start at $349,000.
  19. If that's the direction they go in with the tower, it's looking like the design will have much more in common with the hotel than with the residential buildings on each side of the theater entrance.
  20. Some on here were correct...This is entirely underwhelming. Is Suzanne of Mystery Project fame working over at MLive these days?
  21. Call me crazy, but I actually don't mind the vintage '99 look. It blends in with the area. Being someone that hails from the Dutch corridor and typically doesn't go east of East Beltline, the Cascade area architecture has always intrigued me because it seems so foreign from the rest of the region. It's like entering into a completely different far away city.
  22. +1 rep for the use of the word plebeian.
  23. While that would be nice...I'm sure taxes are a big reason for the relocation. Cascade can offer a deal far superior to anything Grand Rapids can offer when it comes to that. Plus...Yeah...Parking.
