  1. Snapped a few pictures while in the office today. First one is an overall shot, second one shows it looks like they are on the next floor plate type with no columns in the corners. Looking at the rendering that helps get an idea of just how much is left to go. Lastly, may not be a new tower, but the foliage on Mt. Tryon Place is coming in nicely.
  2. I have been driving up to Greensboro for work the last few weeks, and I could not agree more. It didn't help that I drove up last night in the rain/cold/dark. This area will be great when it is done, but it seems like more of a death trap than even 77 right now.
  3. As a person that lives in Uptown and walks a lot, but also owns a car and a motorcycle, I drive in Uptown as well. Here is my take. This is the wonderful thing about street grids, like what exists in uptown. Tryon isn't the only option, if you want to get somewhere quickly in Uptown and are taking Tryon, well you are doing it wrong. You have two multi lane streets on either side which can get you there. If you are trying to get through Uptown quickly and are taking Tryon, you are really doing it wrong. It is a mindset thing. I take Tryon sometimes, but never when I want to get somewhere, but rather when I want to "stroll" through Uptown and see what is going on. Tryon is the perfect street to become shared. It should co-exist with pedestrians, bikers, and vehicles. I personally believe the on-street parking should be removed and converted to protected bike lanes. As someone that also works in Uptown, and frequents this area for Lunch, this crosswalk is a step in the right direction. It may seem "lazy" from the outside, and maybe it is, but at the same time, this particular block has two large open public spaces which contain much of the Uptown lunch destinations. There is a natural movement of people between these two locations more than really any other mid-block section of uptown aside from one block over from Latta to the park. The University I attended did a really clever thing years ago. When they built new buildings, they didn't put in many sidewalks. They sodded the grass and waited. That summer they came back, looked for the worn areas and poured the sidewalks. You really have two options. They could have put up fences and barriers forcing people to take the crosswalks, or embraced it and created a safer location to cross. Some situations may call for one or the other. In this particular situation, they made the right choice.
  4. Hey, I’d be happy with the Panda Express as long as it comes with some clothing stores. Might need some bigger pants if that’s available for lunch everyday.
  5. It looked to me today like they were just doing some tests for concrete pillars and pours, but I could be wrong. I snapped a picture of it from above earlier today. I snapped another one of the whole site for likes.
  6. I saw that as I was walking home from work on Friday. I was wondering about it, but now I am just thinking it was preparation for the potential impact of Irma. Those wraps would just become big wind sails in high speed winds.
  7. I was always under the impression that the "Legacy Union" is just the umbrella term. Since this is planned to be a large development, I envision the Tower will eventually become Legacy Union Tower, on Legacy Union Plaza served by Legacy Union Parking Deck next to Legacy Union Mound of Dirt Hill. But even if that does become the case, us humans like to shorten things. So it likely will just be "Legacy Tower" or "Union Tower" in common conversation.
  8. I noticed that today when one of my co-workers said "Wow it's going to be about as tall as the Duke building" then we looked at the numbers. Also, I recognize that floor...
  9. Can confirm the EXTRA EXTRA Newsies walking around Uptown today. (Pun Intended). Really milking the whole "Legacy" thing. I even saw an old 20's era Ford truck driving around with stacks of the "extra" edition tied up with twine. If you are going to do it, go all the way I guess.
  10. I have been watching some of the PGA Championship coverage today, man are they gushing over Charlotte. Lots of great B-Roll footage. Defiantly a great week and coverage for Charlotte.
  11. Interesting note referring to this last image. While walking to work down Tryon today, I noticed they were removing most of the Red "A Joint Venture" signage and replacing them with standard green screening. Speculate away.
  12. And that makes sense they would get all that coverage. The Braves are really the "Hometown team" for Charlotte, which was funny to me when I moved here given the hatred for all other Atlanta teams. Like mentioned above there are teams that claim this market that don't even have widespread access to their RSN channel. It is just silly. I'd argue you have more transplant fans currently living in Charlotte of many other teams from the Northeast than Cincinnati or Baltimore.
  13. What? I pay for MLB.tv, I do not pay for cable with all the RSN's. When my team plays any of those 4, I can not watch the game as they are ALL blacked out as I am in all 4 teams "home markets." An unreasonable amount of out of market games are blacked out because of the completely ridiculous number of teams that claim this market. If Charlotte had a team, only games my team plays against Charlotte would be blacked out. In that case, I would probably be at the game. That is the original point of blackout rules, so people go to the game (Changed a little with RSN's). So the MLB is saying Cincinnati is within a reasonable distance for me to go to the game instead of watching it on TV? I am for Charlotte getting a team, until then, 4 teams shouldn't be able to get a chunk of this market.
  14. I think it is a load of crap that it is that way to begin with. It should only be Atlanta. Washington is such a new team in DC by comparison, it amazes me they gave them Charlotte, and Baltimore/Cincinnati is laughable. I guess I am mostly annoyed, as I am not a fan of any of those team, so it is just that many more games that get blacked out for me on MLB.tv. Any Charlotte team should only have to deal with Atlanta, the other teams should be happy they ever got to share the broadcast zone. Atlanta is the only team that has really created a "local team" following here. With that said, having the blessing of the MLB heads like that can't hurt. If the MLB wants to be in Charlotte, they will make it work for whoever may be the prospective owner.
  15. BOAT at Covfefe Plaza is movin' on up. Looks like they have started working on floor 2.
  16. Good to know, I just assumed it was light rail as the trains look almost identical to the rest of the system. I did see a transit officer walk by my seat, but no one ever asked for my $9 ticket. Funnily enough, I went to buy one of their "smart cards" and the agent asked if I ride the light rail a lot. I told her I was just visiting and wanted it for the week. She told me, "Oh, just hop on and off the trains, they don't check." I hope Charlotte implements the smart card system better than Denver appears to have, and name it better too, "MyRide", I mean really? Of all the historical and current names they could have pulled for it, they come up with that.
  17. I rode the new light rail line from Denver International to Downtown today. It's pretty nice, all the station platforms are verrryyy long but otherwise, seems to be designed very similar to the blue line. They were only running two trains. A funny problem though. Apparently, they have been having issues with the system that puts down the crossing gates every time the tracks cross a street. Because of that, they currently have crossing guards, as in human crossing guards, at every. single. crossing. Let's hope we don't have a disaster like that with the blue line. How about that for an 8-hour shift? Just hold up a sign when the train comes by.
  18. Those adjustable height desks are like the medical marijuana of the office world. Many companies have just started building new office's with them because everyone would come in with a "medical reason" from their doctor to need one. Cheaper just to give everyone one.
  19. It the readers have contactless capability (Which it looks like they do), it should work with Apple Pay even if it doesn't explicitly say so, as it uses the same technology.
  20. As it happens, I was in the office today and snapped a few pictures. Not much change, but it looks like they have started "burying" the basement area and are starting to go vertical. No progress or any movement by the parking garage site.
  21. Oh look, a perfect opportunity to remove driveways on Independence and move to an access road. So logically this plan has two more already. Smart.
  22. I have been a little lazy recently, but I snapped a few pictures from my office a week or so ago. I am not in the office that much right now, but in a few months I will be in every week. This is my view of the site, so I will try and get some shots every once and awhile.
  23. They did push it closer to Tryon though. Around noon that area looks like a street in China with way too many people trying to walk in a three-foot area.
