  1. I was wondering why the construction seemed to have stopped. They have only cleared the land out there…at least that is as far as I can tell. Definitely no real construction has taken place and that had me worried. We don’t need another Motorola debacle!
  2. For real - should have had an announcement by now, which has me believe that either the airport is really behind in courting an airline(s) to fly internationally or a particular airline gave the airport some sort of agreement that they would start international service, then backed out and now the airport is scrambling to find a replacement. Perhaps I’m reading into it too much, but that’s the way it appears to me.
  3. …like a phoenix rising!!
  4. Latest photo of progress as of Saturday thanks to @-boo1- in r/rva Reddit site:
  5. Does anyone have a rendering of the ballpark under the Machete group at the ready? I remember that one of them looked pretty good, but can’t remember which one. Also, it’s just good to see some more positive movement on this. The quicker they can get this thing going the quicker the City can get to addressing the City Center development which could have a much greater impact on the skyline!
  6. Good historical recap! Thanks for the low-down @Flood Zone! I couldn't remember the details of it all, but this clearly states the reason.
  7. Wow! LOVE the pics! Hey, the residential tower looks like twin towers when looking at it from the east - Cool! Looks like they are almost done.
  8. From what I understand, the company was a Chinese company and, according to what I read, had a change of plans all of a sudden. Therefore, it was never built. I’m unable to confirm or prove it anywhere, but I can’t help but to think that it might have something to do with this being a Chinese company = not good for national security. Anyway, not saying this WAS the reason, but I’m sure we can’t rule it out either. IDK…. I’m also glad that there will be something built on that site. And, hey, 2.4M sq ft…that’s HUGE! I just wonder what company is behind it all?
  9. Awesome photos!! Do you have a drone and are these your pics? Way cool - different perspective than I would get otherwise on the ground! I’m sure some silver hardware is coming your way! Man, keep this stuff coming!
  10. Oh, that’s going to make a nice park. /s
  11. YES!! Finally, Southwest is starting to make sense! Yeah, one day a week is just that - weak! Hopefully, that does increase. It’s the little victories, I guess. Great find!
  12. Yep, that’s it…Odell Associates! Yes you are correct on all you mentioned as far as I have read and learned - definitely on the same page. I just hope I’m pleasantly surprised by the design and amenities to enhance the fan experience. I really don’t want to be disappointed. This is the ONE chance they have to get it right because this is the way it will be for the next 40-50 years!
  13. Yes…well, the way I understand it is that the squirrels have a huge say in how it will be designed. The design team is a company out of Charlotte (the name escapes me right now though).
  14. Seriously! Talk about a snail’s pace! They need to pick up speed now to make sure all is in place for the earliest groundbreaking. I still want to see a final rendering of what the stadium will look like. I think the design is still in work, but I hope they aren’t just slapping it haphazardly together. It needs to be well thought out and designed for the future!
  15. Saw this today in Facebook…and then my response:
  16. Richmond: A Top Performing City? Well, sort of. Apparently, Richmond has moved up 70 spots from last year to #90 this year. But is that good? Depends, according to the article linked below. When comparing cities within Virginia, it’s a very good thing - Richmond scored the highest, beating out NOVA and the Norfolk/Hampton Roads area. However, it’s not good at all when comparing cities in the southeast that used to be our peers (such as Austin, Raleigh, and Nashville)…heck, even northwest Arkansas scored in the top 5! Richmond has a lot of work left to do; the good news is that we are trending in the right direction. https://www.axios.com/local/richmond/2024/02/06/richmond-top-performing-city-ranking
  17. No, you’re not being negative - this is a real problem! You’re not the only one to have experienced this. I’ve heard that TSA does stay longer than 8:00pm for later unscheduled flights, but I’m not sure if it’s always happening (well, obviously, it’s not happening). I’m not even sure the airport has any power over the Federal agency that is TSA. However, this is an issue to bring up to @flack4ric . If not here on this thread, reach out to him via Facebook Messenger, email, or he is also available on X (formally Twitter). I do know, for sure, that there are plans to combine the security areas into one so that there is free flow of passengers between the two concourses, but that won’t be completed for maybe another couple years (if memory serves).
  18. Thanks for posting these. Not sure how recent these are, but I’m disappointed by how very slow The Lake is taking to actually build. This project has been in work for, what seems like, years. I know that last year, it looked almost the same. What will be built first and when? I’m thinking some sort of residential component?
  19. I don’t think I’ve ever seen these renderings! Not sure where you got them, but thanks for posting!
  20. Interesting that you say that a people use the canal walk - I don’t discredit your account, but every time I’ve been to the canal walk, and in pictures (except during major events), the place seems dead - not a soul. Perhaps I’m going there during off-peak times, but I’m glad it get used more than it seems to get used in my mind. I want to see a scene just once where there are lots of people enjoying the canal walk, like they show in architectural renderings!
  21. Love these! Awesome perspective from the south side of the Rivah! Thanks so much for posting! I’m sure you’ll get the silver port-a-potty award coming your way very soon! It’s cool how you can even see the Bakery Lofts from there!
  22. A great video interview with Jennifer Wakefield of the Greater Richmond Partnership where she is asked how GRP works to bring new businesses to Richmond. I just wish she was able to share about some of the “big fish” they are working with. Man, to spend one day in their office! Check it out here: https://rvasbn.com/featured-interviews/attracting-business-growth-greater-richmond-partnerships-role/
