  1. Yep there also might be some cost saving with people crafting their own itinerary(using AA and a non AA carrier), i just have a hunch that the percentage of people that fly into CLT with the non AA carriers and connect ownard is more than people think, especially to Caribbean destinations.
  2. Is there any data for this? So none of the passengers coming in via Frontier/Jetblue/SWA/UA/AC will have a second flight on AA? I get where you are coming from, but i feel like there has to be 5-15% of people that do end up using those carriers as positioning flights into CLT and then continuing on with AA. Just curious if there are any stats out there.
  3. At this point, what would you guys do to improve the look of this project?
  4. By consistency, i mean the way all of the terminals look so different. B/C vs. A North vs. A vs. E vs. D etc., but i guess that's what you get for different build out years. I understand where you are coming from regarding the midfield terminal...but I am guessing that won't happen for at least another 7-10 years? What i am trying to get at is that the renovations for B/C are subpar aesthetically and it terms of improving functionality. It's like someone put together a quick design in like a day and presented it and it was approved. I'm not a interior design expert but any means, but you would think they would have put more thought into the colors, textures and materials to enhance the passenger experience and stand out as a world class 45+ mill passenger airport. B/C are way overcrowded and I don't see the renovations alleviating that problem. The terminals are just not wide enough to accommodate all of the gate holding traffic. I know they are trying to address the ceiling height by raising the ceiling tiles. but i don't see much difference with the the new elevated ceiling, it's still pretty short and ceiling tiles belong in an office building, not a world class airport. Don't get me wrong, I still enjoy transiting thru CLT and will continue to do so, but I think CLT missed the mark with the B and C renovations. On the other hand, A North looks great. Maybe i am rushing to judgement, we will see what it looks like completely finished.
  5. Good points. MIA and IAD have the same for their regional gates. Does anyone else understand the use of carpeting instead of Terrazzo? CLT has no uniformity in design except the use of that awkward blue tone and carpeting everywhere. I fly thru CLT a lot, just wish they would have put more thought into the airport redevelopment plan from a design and usability standpoint. I will say that i rarely have any flights that are cancelled or delayed transiting thru CLT, credit to them for that. Same goes for my father, who is a key concierge with AA and travels much much more than me. I understand the budgeting constraints, operating constraints and CLT's low operating cost for AA. Ideally, B/C/E renovations would more so mimic the new Terminal A North expansion, with a little YVR and Changi design touch sprinkled in, along with some glass jetways. I am rambling on a little bit, but i am sure some of you can see where CLT may have missed the mark in terms of design. Also if you land on 36L/18R and you are on a regional jet, taxing to Terminal E is a beaaaaaast!
  6. In addition of navigators great pics... here is mine from today. The departure vectors were awesome today. Side note: the terminal B renovations do not look very good, seems like a big miss in terms of design and material choices. It looks like it has already aged very poorly and it's a fresh renovation. I don't understand CLT's color palette. Coming from MIA today, it's so much roomier, inviting and a more pleasant place to transit thru.
  7. Does anyone else find the interior colors scheme they have decided to go with cold, boring and uninviting? I'm far from a interior design expert, but it does not look very pleasing to me.
  8. Great progress at CLT nonetheless. I wonder if they will go with glass jetways at the new Terminal expansion?
  9. Can someone photoshop 2-3 different roof colors other than blue? I wish mix of design was taken from Madrid Barajas Terminal 4 and Singapore Changi an incorporated into the new Terminal and future renovations at CLT, at least my ideal design vision haha.
  10. Here you go.. http://www.cltairport.com/News/Pages/DestinationCLTProjects.aspx It would be cool to organize a UrbanPlanet Avgeek meet at the airport overlook when it warms up..
  11. I totally agree with you..and like you said..the construction period will be the most challenging. People that aren't so in tune with airport operations or avgeek 's like some of us do not realize how busy Charlotte. 50 million passengers is around the corner, pretty amazing! Have you been to Vancouver? It might be my favorite in North America.
  12. You are correct, I was in Terminal D. I understand Charlotte holds it on against may airports...I know it hold a big advantage in terms of lower operating cost for AA and why its been such a successful hub. After being to a wide variety of airports in the US and Europe, I just wish some design features were a bit more thought out. But again, this is mostly aesthetic and a viewpoint that maybe not a lot of people share.
  13. I can see your point in terms of comparison with other regional concourses. I feel like they could have built a higher ceiling, incorporated a full tarrazzo floor, opted for warmer colors throughout, and more art. But again this is just my personal preference haha. The new E connector will address some of these issues. In terms of a disconnected terminal design, I have wondered that myself. I think the airport should have implement a people mover system at some point.
  14. I will say that spending a good amount of time in Miami's airport this past week, it is way better looking and better maintained than CLT. I understand they went thru somewhat recent renovations, but glad to see they opted for an open, airy and modern design. I really like the way the new terminal is shaping up at CLT, apart from the blue roof..there is so much blue in CLT airport design, it's too much, bring in some warm colors and materials! I also hope for glass jetways at the new terminal. Does anyone else feel like Terminal E was not designed very well? CLT is a world class airport with not so much a world class design. Don't get me wrong, i love traveling thru CLT, but they could have/could do better.
  15. Yep i think so, it is new for me and i frequent CLT 4-5 times a year....but i may be wrong haha.
  16. A few more progress pictures of terminal renovations and glass panels are being installed on the new Terminal. The airport is def showing its age, even Terminal E looks a bit outdated already..glad renovations are in the works..
  17. Encountered a 2 hour delay into CLT this morning due to air conditioning maintenance on our CRJ-900, but good view of the new tower.
  18. I was looking at some stats. CLT had 601 daily flights in June 2006. June 2017 resulted in 744 daily flights. International and cargo traffic is up significantly vs. 2016.
  19. On a recent hop from CMH to CLT. The taxi from from 36L to E gates is looooooong.
  20. A few not so great photos of uptown on final to CLT.
  21. Concourse A Expansion Phase 1 and East Terminal Expansion Phase 2 progress.
  22. I agree in regards to the street level, but If possible, a classy exterior update would would well. Figuring out a way to incorporate a glass "crown" and possibly a minimalistic change to the windows etc. Maybe figuring out a way to incorporate a viewing terrace at the top.
  23. Yes, my favorite!! Good place, although the portions were light for an $18 plate(I would like more than 2 pickles please), the taste was very good.
