  1. Here is a summer update from Lisa Freiman regarding the progress of the ICA: http://ica.vcu.edu/about/summer-2015-update-from-director-lisa-freiman/ Also of note, the capital campaign has now raised 34.6 million of the 35 million desired.
  2. That would be a score for the area. I really can't see anything else going into that spot! It would make good sense too, considering the location of the billboard.
  3. We can add: Old Ox Brewery (Ashland) Black Health Meaderie (Richmond City- Scott's Addition) Belle Isle Distillery (Richmond City- Manchester) James River Distillery (Richmond City) Reservoir Distillery (Richmond City)
  4. Veil Brewing company opening soon in Scott's Addition! That makes two forthcoming breweries in Scott's that I know of. http://www.richmond.com/business/local/article_8694f1d8-73a2-56b3-850e-bed43937bcc4.html
  5. Here is an incredibly comprehensive look at all the things that are great about Richmond from a travel website!! Definitely check this out!! http://hipgreenscene.com/2015/06/richmond/
  6. Richmond is among the 30 best cities for a date night according to AARP haha! http://www.aarp.org/home-family/dating/info-2015/date-night-best-places-cities.html
  7. Here is a proposal for a 180-unit apartment complex which would be seated at the base of the Jefferson Park hill. I've wondered when this empty lot would be developed. http://chpn.net/news/2015/03/30/public-hearing-wednesday-on-180-apartments-proposed-below-jefferson-park_41260/#comment Also, here is an update about the theater conversion on 25th St. in Church Hill: http://chpn.net/news/2015/03/31/new-restaurants-apartments-coming-this-year-to-25th-street_41284/
  8. This is extremely exciting news and a huge relief that it will not become a generic Walgreens!
  9. Doesn't look like it was a coincidence!! Nice scoop!! http://www.richmond.com/news/local/city-of-richmond/article_ad376408-9737-5d96-ab67-5aab7a539dd2.html
  10. I'm at work with some down time so I'll add to this. Since they mentioned top 30, as opposed to top 25, we can assume the brewery will be in the 26-30 range which are the following: 26. Founders Brewing Co. (Grand Rapids, MI) 27. Rogue Ales (Newport, OR) 28. Victory Brewing Co. (Downingtown, PA) 29. Ballast Point Brewing Co. (San Diego, CA) 30. Ninkasi Brewing Co. (Eugene, OR) We can eliminate Founders and Victory due to location, so that leaves us with Rogue, Ballast, and Ninkasi--with the greatest chance for Rogue (since the largest is most likely to need the expansion). Hopefully I'm right--that would be very cool. Here are some links: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/03/31/top-craft-breweries_n_5062484.html http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rogue_Ales http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ballast_Point_Brewing_Company http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ninkasi_Brewing_Company
  11. The news about Norfolk is great as well, I think there is definitely a 'rising tide' relationship in effect between us! The cooler VA is considered in general--the better for us.
  12. Another Top 30 US brewery from the west coast is looking at RVA!! http://www.styleweekly.com/richmond/the-next-stone/Content?oid=2182568 The Stone project appears to be paying dividends already! I feel confident that we can get this one too. It also mentions a brewery larger than Stone in advanced talks with Norfolk--it is probably Lagunitas (I have heard they were looking for an east coast spot).
  13. An amazing music festival is shaping up, courtesy of XL 102; for alternative music lovers, there may not be many better festival lineups this year! This is HUGE for RVA: bigfieldday.com
  14. The listed cities probably do not have a Henrico Co. equivalent developing massive retail presence in multiple places directly adjacent to the city border (i.e. Willow Lawn, The shoppes at White Oak Village, proposed Walmart/retail development for 9 Mile Rd.). Henrico Co. truly cannibalizes the viability of Richmond city retail with their over saturation.
  15. I agree that high rises would be nice, but lately I have wondered if a very immense skyline of 300-400 foot buildings would be just as nice/or better. Vancouver is an example of a skyline which is composed entirely of buildings of similar heights to our highest, but it has a tremendous amount of them. Overall, their skyline looks immense and impressive: http://tinyurl.com/py5lg6c. Take Vancouver as a model vs. a city like Oklahoma City which has a sea of mid rises and one inappropriately tall building, and I would pick Vancouver's model for RVA!
  16. This land has a lot of potential! What do you guys think would suit this land best? http://www.richmondbizsense.com/2015/02/26/with-8m-tag-manchester-lot-hits-the-market/
  17. Not strictly a Richmond article, but I know we are all lovers of Virginia at large! http://vinepair.com/wine-blog/virginia-most-exciting-us-wine-region/
  18. Here is the Regency sale to Rebkee-Thalhimer article: http://www.richmond.com/business/local/article_05a8629d-b705-5721-80a6-7b2d6dc760be.html I foresee this working better as a dense mixed use development that reconnects the surrounding street grid. Even if it was renovated as a Regency 2.0 and became successful again it would probably be to the detriment of Stony Point--so I don't like the idea.
  19. Especially considering the Mead Westvaco-RockTenn merger and all the paper/corrogated products we'll be responsible for!
  20. I have never seen anyone post this project on here: http://chpn.net/news/2015/01/27/the-lofty-aiming-for-mid-may_40060/ ; it looks to be moving the boundary of new development ever further east!
  21. Here is a terrific write up about Richmond leveraging its strengths to attract human capital for the "knowledge economy": http://www.baconsrebellion.com/2015/01/let-richmond-be-richmond.html#comments ; this blog frequently has great RVA/Virginia articles.
  22. Here is the only thing I could surface in regards to development plans: http://www.richmondbizsense.com/2012/08/10/gas-station-owner-wants-you-to-fill-up-his-building/
  23. The project is highlighted in the Venture Richmond 2014 development update on page 9 of the following link: http://www.venturerichmond.com/pdfs/transformation.pdf ; it was originally slated for 2015 completion, but that would appear unlikely now. I recall reading about some of the area businesses loudly protesting the 93-unit complex would only have 94 parking spaces available.
