  1. Nice! I was really hoping somebody got a photo of the sunset this evening. From Brevard/Davidson it looked as if uptown was on fire. I got some pretty terrible shots from the Matheson bridge. My photos are doodoo, I know. But I was being irresponsible to get these. They in no way do the sunset justice either. It was gorgeous.
  2. Ah gotcha. Wine plus candles, maybe still believable?
  3. If it's anything like or similar Bath and Body Works, I know. My wife single handedly supports our local Bath and Body Works. I never knew how one person can own so many candles. She just mentioned that we're getting "low". We have minimum 10 in our house with maybe 6 unused. "Yes dear". So a candle shop making it in Southend? I believe it.
  4. I'll join the fray with my favorite, Bodacious BBQ in Longview Texas. Rated as number 4 in the state of Texas according to Texas Monthly. https://www.texasmonthly.com/s/the-golden-age-of-barbecue/ https://bodaciousmobberly.com/ Now, we don't live Texas and this is the NC bbq thread. Lexington is probably my NC favorite, I just don't get to make it out there much anymore. I do want to try Noble Smoke due to somebody constantly saying the brisket and turkey are good. One question KJ, is it at least served on paper?
  5. Couldn't help but notice the guy enjoying the popular pastime of looking at the sun.
  6. From a small sample size of millenials I know with me included, no. Maybe it got lost in translation from previous generations to the millennials I know. Or maybe I'm too blue collared, who knows (a beer usually does it for me and my wallet). I'll be honest, I've heard of most of those drinks, but may have had only 1 or 2.
  7. Personal story: Sooo when my family and I moved up from Texas we were still getting adjusted to the area, new jobs/ schools, etc. and were all feeling a bit home sick, even months after. We had recently been scarred by the NC version of BBQ( coleslaw on the meat with no beef in sight) and were yearning for familiar food. But alas! We hear some locals speaking of a place all Texans love, Whataburger. So we load up the family and head the 45 minutes over to Mooresville. To say we were heart broken was an understatement. We arrived to the locally founded restaurant, not the Texas fast food legend. What we got was good, but it wasn't what we expected. No spicy ketchup. I think I cried on the way home. Either way I've since come to thoroughly enjoy the small NC bbq joints and old family restaurants. But it was funny to experience the culture shock you can find even within parts of the south. Thanks for reminding me of that memory.
  8. Patio/ outdoor eating area is way more engaging than some glass windows. Is that gonna remain(I'm not good at interpreting sketch ups)? Or will the patios go with the renovation?
  9. Oh I agree, nearly every meal I eat is home cooked, even my work meals are bought at the store and cooked at work. I average out to $3-5 a meal for me. Buuuut... $35 for 2 eating out, that isn't fast food(Micky D's, BK, Taco Hell, Kentucky Fried Yard Bird, etc.) aint too shabby. For me though, the price is always higher cause the babies are either with us or we're paying a babysitter on top of our meal price. Soooooo, that's life.
  10. Like I stated above, while I enjoy the urban fabric, I'm not good on predicting it's future growth. But I was correct on my one prediction. Congrats UP'ers you did it! You got him to 40,000+! KJHburg you've earned every one of those likes for the hard work you do for this forum. Thanks. P.S. I was scrolling through a few of the predictions posted and a some of y'all are on the money. For those who still have a couple unrealized predictions, do you still stand by them or because of how this year has progressed, have you changed your view? Where do you see Charlotte finishing out the year?
  11. And one in front of the Giant Penny on Plaza at Herrin. She was in bad shape before she passed. Hit and run too.
  12. I like to believe that somewhere in this building there's still an office with red carpet, brown walls with gold accents and a mountain of cocaine on the desk. Black Monday Tower.
  13. Lol yeah I think it had more reason back in the day. If I remember correctly tarhoosier had a really good comment awhile back about the history of the company.
  14. Probably Herrin Ice and Coal not wanting their business getting bulldozed.
  15. First, I'm not a police officer so don't hold me to this but... I'm pretty sure they're not allowed to pursue dirt bikes/4 wheelers/etc. UNLESS said person was witnessed or suspected of serious crimes. The bad part is the people on bikes and the like know this and will blatantly ride in front of officers doing wheelies and such. Now the above case the person was suspected of assualt (serious crime) hence the pursuit. But in cases where the people are riding and are not suspected of or are witness to serious crime they may not be able to initiate pursuit. They have to weigh the pursuit vs the risk to the public if they do pursue. TL;DR: I'm not sure how much crack down will happen if it doesn't involve serious crime. See CMPD's Interactive Directive Guide 600-22 Should be first result if you Google "CMPD pursuit policy". I hope this helps anybody with questions.
  16. I couldn't find an art/ mural thread so I guess I'll put it here. Saw these while in the Asian mall today. First entrance from Tryon, in the back, left wall. I'd like to see more murals from a variety of cultures across our city. I thought they were pretty cool, I just wish they were more public.
  17. Now he didn't say what part or how much, but it was some.
  18. Caught some work being done to the old solstice. One of the guys in charge said they are enlarging the window and installing a lintel above the window because surprisingly it had none. I also asked him about the mural and unfortunately he said some of it will be repainted to a more NoDa themed mural. Not sure what that means, but the bright side is he's hiring the Matt duo to paint it. On our morning stroll at work today.
  19. One of the posters recently put up at near Sugar Creek Lynx station.
  20. 5139 Eaton Cir, Charlotte, NC 28208 https://maps.app.goo.gl/hn9JDbbXX3pLsYbU8 I wish they could do it here. I feel it to be a very visible location with easy access to both 85 and 77 via BG. It's a bigger lot allowing for bigger aircraft/ displays, still right by the airport for aircraft that still need to be flown in, and interstates for those to be drove in. But the biggest is visibility. Thousands of people drive right by here leaving the airport every week. It could easily be the first or last touristy thing one could do arriving/ leaving Charlotte. Heck, it's an easier location to get to than the current, somewhat hidden location, that I feel more of us locals could bring our kids. Unfortunately I think there already are plans for this site. Uptown would definitely be cool, but I think would suck from a logistical standpoint.
  21. The view of uptown from the 9th floor of 1000 Baxter earlier this evening. Credit goes to a buddy of mine who took it, I forgot my phone down in the truck. It's gotta be one of the best views in the city.
