To each their own, Tallguy... I happen to work for them and while I hope to find new employment, I'm sure I'll still shop there. Also, I think that they might not put a Neighborhood Market there as it would be very close to their store at Town Center....

When I link to the site, it changes the web address to simon.com and simply states Norfolk Premium Outlets coming soon. I cannot get a list of the shops.

Some of the slides have information that makes them seem fairly dated....

I think it'll be very long term before the Town Center area/Downtown Va Beach really begin to look anything like that drawing. Keep in mind, too, though, that even in urban areas, there is often a mix of dense mixed-use development and more traditional locations. That being said, I visited the Wegman's website and they seem to be denying completely any plans to come to Virginia Beach (or Hampton Roads at all) any time in the near future.

It certainly did end up with a much different look than those early renderings...

I heard on good authority today that the site of the former K-mart at Hilltop will indeed become a Walmart. Since it is not in TC, I imagine it will have the look of a more traditional Walmart than the TC location. Also, I would love to see a Wegmans come to TC, regardless of whether that is 'urban" or not. If true, will be a lot of grocery options right there in the TC area, what with a Fresh Market supposedly coming and the Walmart and then they add a Wegmans to the mix...wow.

Interestingly, The Fresh Markets' website still does not show a Pembroke location in either their coming soon or announced leases section...

I've never been to a Wegman's but from what I hear about them it would be rather neat to see one in the VB area. As far as the discussion that's been had about The Fresh Market making an appearance at Pembroke, their website has nothing in either their "Coming Soon" or "Announced Leases" section. Can anyone confirm that this is more than a rumor?

I think (hope) that there can be enough discussion about this topic to warrant it's own thread. I know the approval process is moving forward and construction is slated to begin by this fall. It seems like Norfolk and Virginia Beach will cooperate on at least a portion of the process. Personally, I see this as a win/win. I look forward to the shops and it should be an economic boost that that area. So, to further the discussion, what is the prevailing opinion out there? Any particular stores you hope to see? Also, does anyone have any renderings or schematics?

I guess no one knows or has had any luck finding any info...I know I can't find anything. Even the cashier at the OfficeMax didn't know...

Does anyone know what's being done on the outparcel slab right there in front of Town Center Marketplace? Right next to the USAA, where I believe the Honeybaked Ham was located many years ago.

I said this in a different thread a few days ago, but, now that JC Penney is closing their store at Military Circle Mall, how about they look at putting any new arena there? I think the oceanfront is quite centralized enough. The Gallery at Military Circle is in a death spiral already. There's plenty of land, parking, highway access, and they could reasonably just build a spur to get light rail right there (it's almost there now.) That area is far more centralized and could be redeveloped in to a mixed-use shopping and entertainment district anchored by the arena.

OK, I know I may be going out on a limb here (and risk getting thrown under a bus) but how about a complete redevelopment of the Military Circle Mall property into....drumroll please....a new arena. Think about this. Norfolk's Scope is very old, fairly outdated (and ugly, if you ask me.) It's not very large, by comparison. New arena's have been proposed several times for the area, but sometimes in a location that would make it somewhat impractical (like the oceanfront.) A very centralized location like that at Military Circle, which is basically at the center of Southside Hampton Roads, would be ideal. There is already a hotel that could be renovated/expanded. The area has bountiful dining choices. A new, larger arena to replace Scope could potentially be used to attract bigger concerts and events than the area currently gets. Perhaps that long-awaited NBA team, too? (Well, I won't hold my breath about that one...) But no matter what, it would be an ideal location. Stores currently at the mall that want to stay in the area could relocate as part of a mixed use design for the arena which would put storefronts around the perimeter. I know this all sounds grand and perhaps a bit pie-in-the-sky, but thoughts, anyone?

So excited to see this. I am a fast food junkie, and CookOut is pretty good, but somehow there is just nothing like a Steak 'N Shake. Look forward to these coming!

I've long wondered why the Boulevard IHOP didn't relocate. I understand the nostalgia and all, but the building was old and much smaller than their other area locations. I heard recently that that location would close and a CookOut was coming to that spot. Then this morning, I saw that remodeling had begun on the old Silver Diner building. I didn't put two-and-two together at first, but I see here that urbanvb has taken note of a permit for IHOP there. Makes sense now. IHOP relocates to the much bigger site where Silver Diner was and they put the CookOut at the old IHOP site. Now, if I could just find out what they are going to do at the old Max & Erma's site. On a related note, has anyone heard anything about Steak 'N Shake coming to this area? I stopped at the one in Fredericksburg awhile back and they told me that Richmond, Roanoke, and Virginia Beach locations were all in the works. I know the one in Richmond has been open for awhile now, and I believe I saw somewhere that the Roanoke location has opened. So, when do we get one?....
