Some people say that here in Charlotte (not me) about its more traditional design currently 4th tallest building  in NC but we have another new taller tower being built for Duke Energy at 41 stories around 650 feet which has a slanted roof design on top.  Really nice looking.  Plus that Bank of America Tower will be surrounded by a forest of towers 2nd one is already under way but many more planned.

I’m in Downtown! The trip into the city was underwhelming from the eastern side taking I-40. As for Downtown, I’ve heard a lot about it. Some say it’s 20 years behind Charlotte and some say it’s not dense and more touristy then Buisness focused. As for my short time so far, I’d partially agree to both of those statements. Nashville isn’t sprawling, But it’s not dense by any means. It’s not with Charlotte, I mean that in the nicest way possible. Nashville has loads of potiential. My favorite building so far is the JW Marriot, As for the other buildings they seem to be par with other cities similarly sized. Broadway is interesting, Not as big and diverse as I imagined, But it’s nice for tourists. I will say it wasn’t lively when I arrived, But it must be due to the fact that it’s a Sunday. I will also add the amount of buildings Nashville has suprised me, It’s more then I thought. Nashville seems like a Lovley mid-sized city and in recent projections, It seems like the population boom is slowing. That’s good news, Wish I could say the same for Charlotte so I wouldn’t be paying the amount I am in rent. Look forward to updating and discussing again soon!

20 years behind?? Seriously? Everyone is entitled to their own opinions but come on.

A city that is 20 years behind doesn't win 1k+ job relocations, MLS teams, international soccer games, and top 5 in every list dealing with places to live, eat, work, visit and play.

It seems like a lot of people in Charlotte have nothing nice to say about any other city that's not Charlotte.

I was just in Charlotte last month and enjoyed my trip. Very nice city and is doing a lot of things right. But if you want density, I would say Nashville'midtown is pretty dense. Didn't see anything like that in Charlotte.

Nashville has its own issues but I think it's a far fetch to say we are 20 years behind.

I guess the 30+ cranes doesn't mean anything if it's not building a shiny tall corporate building.

    Enjoy your stay!

  3. Am I the only one that thinks Nashville should be the new headquarters for Live Nation. The old convention center site with signage facing Bridgestone would be ideal. Beverly Hills is great and all but, Nashville must be cheaper rent right?

I agree. Especially since they have bought the controlling interest in Bonnaroo and expanded their local offices with a move to Edgehill Village

    From the article:

This will be the second major move for Live Nation into the Nashville-area this year. The company won the contract to manage the new riverfront Ascend Amphitheater last year, and the inaugural season kicks off this July 30th with a solo concert by Eric Church. Live Nation, which has significantly beefed up its presence locally, has new office space in Edgehill Village.

  4. This may have some serious traction. It would be cool to add another fast food/casual dining headquarters to the city. The metro area already has O'Charleys, Cracker Barrell, Logans, Shoneys, Captain D's, GiGi's, Backyard Burgers, Stoney River, and J Alexanders

Here is the article from the St. Louis paper

    http://www.stltoday.com/business/local/hardee-s-considers-moving-headquarters-from-st-louis/article_0d76958a-db17-5ad4-91c6-6bfd751c3bb3.html

    From Article:

Hardee’s occupies about 50,000 square feet at 100 North Broadway, which was known as the Bank of America Tower before the bank relocated its offices from the building. David Kelpe, a senior vice president of commercial real estate firm DTZ, said the building remained about 67 percent occupied. Hertz Broadway Tower LLC, of Santa Monica, Calif., owns the building, which opened in 1974.

There is definitely not 50k sq ft avail in the core or midtown that I know of. They would definitely have to go in a new building if looking to stay in the city. I'm sure their are some large spec buildings being built in CoolSprings that may fit their needs, but I would love to see them in DT or MT.

Here is the tower they currently occupy in St. Louis.

  5. Why the retail must be upscale at $400M convention center site overhaul

    http://www.bizjournals.com/nashville/blog/real-estate/2015/04/why-theretail-must-be-upscale-at-400m-convention.html

    Quote from Article:

"This is an expensive project to do, so we'll have to have top-flight tenants who can muster the finances to participate in a project like this," said Dene Oliver, CEO of the developer OliverMcMillan.

In other words: Higher-end retailers are the likeliest to be able to afford the rent that the project's developers will have to charge, in order for them (and their financial backers) to turn a profit.

"It won't be run-of-the-mill things that you see everywhere in every mall," Oliver added. "We're going to appeal to tourists, locals, conventioneers and the office workers that will work nearby."

  6. Karl Dean announces plan to move Criminal Justice Center operations

    http://www.tennessean.com/story/news/politics/2015/04/21/karl-dean-announce-plan-move-criminal-justice-center-operations/26119461/

    From the article:

The proposal calls for moving the sheriff's office downtown jail — housed in the 33-year-old Criminal Justice Center —as well as an East Nashville training facility and other operations into an expanded Metro-Davidson County detention facility at 5115 Harding Place.

The police headquarters, which is also housed in the CJC, would move to property on Jefferson Street. In recent weeks, speculation has centered on properties at 14th and Jefferson near Interstate 40 as a likely destination.

Abandoning the Criminal Justice Center — situated across from the Metro Courthouse — would open up prime real estate in the heart of downtown. The roughly 3.53-acre Criminal Justice Center site covers a city block between Second and Third avenues north, James Robertson Parkway and Gay Street

    This should be interesting!

  7. To-go cup bill for parts of downtown Nashville close to becoming law

    http://wkrn.com/2015/04/14/to-go-cup-bill-for-parts-of-downtown-nashville-close-to-becoming-law/

    Quote:

"The aim of the proposed law is to allow people to carry alcohol as they walk within the area of the Music City Center, Country Music Hall of Fame, and the Omni Hotel."

Not sure what's gonna keep people from taking alcohol elsewhere outside of these three areas...signs? Police officers? Certain color cups?

People will think that it's like New Orleans or Beale St. and walk anywhere with it. You can easily walk from the MCC to Bridgestone then to Brodway within 2mins. I'm all for it, just don't know how they will be able to enforce it.
