  1. I agree - not that I've been posting for long so I'm not sure of which category I fit in but I did not like the tone of some of the newer posters. Very different from what was usual in these threads. Back on point with the airport - I sent an e-mail a while back to the airport regarding the Overlook. My e-mail is below as well as their reply. Do others agree with any of my thoughts or am I crazy? My e-mail: Hi CLT, I spent some time over at the overlook yesterday, as I do periodically, and thought that I should share a couple of thoughts and questions I've had about the overlook. I love coming out there and know many others do too! It's always full and it's such a unique place at airports across the country. 1) I know that the plans are for a new runway to be built that would be right where the overlook is. Are there plans to relocate the overlook and create a new space for that type of space? 2) Either way, has it ever been considered to expand the overlook / provide other amenities? The ideas I have are: - Bathrooms - A snack bar - Wi-fi - A radio station that broadcasts airport radio transmissions locally (I'm not sure if this is possible, but think it would be awesome). I hope that you all know how much people enjoy that area and just think that it could be made even better! Their reply: Thank you for your message. The Airport plans to relocate the Airport Overlook Park. The Airport recognizes the popularity of the Overlook and wants to maintain a public viewing area for the community. The specific plans have not been determined at this time. Your comments are taken under consideration as potential amenities to this public park area. Thank you for sharing your feedback with the Airport.
  2. I agree. And I think that this all relates back in some way to airport construction / expansion since it is about whether US / AA presence in Charlotte will stay level, increase, or decrease. Obviously, the level of service will have huge implications for the airport. However, I also agree that the "speculation" about service should be left to aviation forums. I think information that's fairly solid (ie. Miesian's) is helpful regarding the airport.
  3. I understand what you're saying and would have thought that before living where I do. However, take a look at this map. It's pretty clear that "University City" is a very large area... http://universitycitypartners.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/9090_Trade-Area-Map_050214.pdf
  4. ^ Definitely. I live just southwest of that area and we are definitely considered part of University City. It's kind of Eastfield / Highland Creek / University City. We actually receive the UCity Newspaper.
  5. Why is this conversation even in this thread? There's a thread about railroads right? I know this started regarding the Red Line but clearly isn't about that anymore.
  6. Isn't US taking delivery of some new 330's this year? Maybe it's one of those?
  7. This still pisses me off really badly. I live near the rail line and we hardly ever see trains on it - only the local train to Gerdau. And on top of all of this, they oftentimes run one of their few daily trains during rush hour and stop traffic on Old Statesville at 5:30 or 6:00pm!!
  8. I live fairly close to Northlake and am in that area regularly. I would have to disagree with several of the sentiments expressed above. While I do think that there is a sizeable African American population that goes there it never feels disproportionate. When I first moved here 6 years ago some friends of ours told us that that area was shady. But it's never felt unsafe to me. And the area only continues to grow - with the addition of the McDonalds/BWW/Discount Tire area and several new apartment complexes. I'd be shocked if Northlake is considered at all to be failing.
  9. Maybe referring to traffic movements, but even that is hard to believe...
  10. ^ Don't you think all of this is built into the plans to redo the concourses completely - first in widening them and ultimately in redesigning the layout completely? I anticipate that in the next few years all Concourses B and C will have been redone and it will feel more like the baggage claim area now. And it's clear that financially CLT is better at financing and paying for their work and that cost is not just being transferred to the airline...
  11. I always hear that about Charlotte / US Airways, but on any trip I look at I usually compare costs at other regional airports. And at least half the time the flight into Charlotte is just as cheap if not cheaper.
  12. I also don't think I'm alone in the thought that O&D for Charlotte is only going to rise in the coming years. So while some flights might not make great sense now, I don't think it will be too long until we're more relevant in that conversation.
  13. What's the long-term plan with the daily garage bus? Is it going to always do that loop? It seems like with the new setup it's the perfect opportunity to isolate those buses on the short loop back around to the garage. I'm optimistic still. It's always going to be worst before it gets better when undergoing construction. I don't know about the pay machines though...
  14. I'm still holding out hope that Rome and Dublin will stay, albeit seasonally, as well as a majority of those caribbean flights. And Sao Paulo. But that's just me being optimistic.
  15. ^ That's a seasonal flight. I don't know how long it's been running.
  16. Yes - and also the question is not will BMW folks be routed through Miami (to a point up above). The argument / question is whether Lufthansa will route the passengers through a United hub (IAD - Dulles) to keep the codeshare...
  17. I too have seen her multiple times and know of her routine, and want to know why. It's almost more of a chant. My wife and I were wondering if a relative of hers is the pilot (though it's too regular to be that I think). But she's definitely praying for it. And she does know exactly when it's going to be coming and going.
  18. The other acronyms that are often thrown around are the airport codes. There are way too many to list. Some - like CLT - are intuitive and you likely can guess. Others, like MSY (New Orleans) aren't. Usually if I see one that I don't know I will just google in xxx airport and it usually pops up with whatever the city is.
  19. This is excellent news! Thanks for sharing! I'm really glad to see that they believe they can keep up with the timeline of the rest of the project.
  20. My house is right along the flight path and it's been much quieter (not that it was really loud before) over the last year but I've definitely heard more activity recently.
  21. I forgot they were starting Frontier. They're obviously coming into the A concourse but I'm not sure of the gate. The baggage claim will just be in A, and should be marked for Frontier.
  22. The problem I had with the article was that they use Cleveland as their example of how these factors will take a toll on airports like CLT. While these things may be factors in what happened with Cleveland, their fate was sealed once United and Continental merged. What happened to Cleveland is because of geography - they no longer need Cleveland to serve as the connecting hub for the midwest. The most direct comparison with Charlotte is if US had merged with Delta - CLT would have been gone in an instant... Otherwise they are valid points in the article and there's no doubt that those things will have some effect on our airport.
  23. Great for OKC and Tulsa! My family is in OK so this will be really helpful (hopefully fares will be reasonable). As for the distance between the decks and the terminal - I do agree that it would be nice if there were an underground tunnel between them. Let's just hope that things make more sense in another year.
  24. You beat me to it! I was going to say the exact same thing. Sad, really!
