  1. If all these infill projects continue to happen, one hope is that each block will have some activation at street level. For instance You can't walk too many blocks in the Bronx or Brooklyn (highly residential with townhomes, row houses, and apts) without a bodega, a bagel shop, a bakery or florist, a diner, a neighborhood bar... on a corner at the end of the long row of houses. Something more than a 7-11 type convenience store reinforces that life is lived in your home AND in your neighborhood, and catalyzes the kind of collisions that promote long-term residents.
  2. Check out the "Health Village" forum. http://www.urbanplanet.org/forums/index.php/topic/52754-florida-hospital-health-village/ The development I believe is called The Ivy Residences at Florida Hospital.
  3. This Video from an architecture firm Hassell in Perth, Australia made me think of the debacle of the demolition of the Woolworth building and the construction of the Plaza building downtown. At around 4:05 minute mark, they discuss the integration and preservation of historic (heritage) buildings into the plan for a major mixed use project. I wonder what it might have looked like had some developers incorporated more of the historic buildings into the fabric of the new architecture here in Orlando. http://www.hassellstudio.com/en/cms-projects/detail/brookfield-place/
  4. update from scoring third website... http://www.scoringthird.com/2013/05/orlando-city-stadium-update.html
  5. Statistically, there is less violent crime in Parramore than in the suburbs. So, because of the police presence and neighborhood vigilance, it's safer on the west side at night than in some neighborhoods like Waterford Lakes. Mayor Buddy has touted this fact several times, as his hope during his first campaign was to be judged by how he improved the Parramore neighborhood. It is great to see the city invest in such a way, buying land, encouraging economic diversity. Maybe you meant, it would be nice to have more reasons for outsiders to walk around Parramore at night, as many people in Parramore walk around at night already.
  6. The Magic actually filed for an extension before deciding about the property. http://www.groworlando.org/2013/01/magic-asks-for-extension-on-planned.html
  7. Will there be any chance of a competitor opening perhaps with later or 24hrs. I lived in Charlotte which has good grocery competition. Including Whole Foods, Fresh Market, Trader Joe's, Harris Teeter, Target, Bravo, etc. Some Harris Teeters would close early while others remained open 24/7. Now Publix has plans to open in that market as well. It seems small townish that 10pm is the limit on going to a store in Orlando. I wonder if any other stores will dare take on the Publix domination.

    Mills/50

They are almost done salvaging the rafter beams and any other point of interest from the Mills Park warehouses that will be demolished sometime soon. I still wish they had chosen to restore/upgrade and incorporate the buildings into the bigger plan.
  9. This came out on Oct. 12. Looks like its moving forward, closer to I-drive. Disappointing that they won't choose a parcel closer to Downtown and the core of the city and that they are marketing for tourists and not Orlando residents. I hardly ever muster the will to go down into the fray of International Drive. http://www.bizjournals.com/orlando/print-edition/2012/10/12/proposed-soccer-stadium-heading-to.html
