  1. Corewell is planning a 300,000 square foot service center at the old GM location on 36th Street. There’s a market going in across the street too. https://www.woodtv.com/news/kent-county/corewell-health-plans-service-center-for-wyoming/amp/
  2. I didn’t do one for 2023, so here it goes for 2024: • Acrisure will recognize that it may be expanding too rapidly. If a new headquarters, if any, were to be announced, expect it to be 20 stories or less. • Sligh plans will go forward, though with more storage and mixed-use. Possibly a parking garage across the street? • No announcements on an aquarium. • No announcements on liner buildings for the auditorium. • Groundbreaking date on the trail leading up Belknap will be revealed by the fall. • "Lyon Square" will finish and continue to be under-used. • Rapids are dead in the water. No further plans on riverside trails will be announced as planners pick up the pieces. • Interior parks will receive more attention, with maybe more focus on Indian Trails and the southeast side. • GRCC will announce a decent-sized project. • Plans for Calder Plaza will be revealed for a completion date of Summer 2026 for semiquincentennial celebrations and the bicentennial anniversary of the city's "founding."
  3. Isn’t there one of these already on College? Here is their page: https://communiteawellness.com/about/
  4. In the rendering, yes it exists. But in the plans, Option B removes all exits from MLK Jr. Street. Not sure which I would prefer personally.
  5. Wow, it’s been a year since this topic was active, but MDOT has some new images and a survey for 131! Information: https://storymaps.arcgis.com/stories/5cd31f791e1740698369f28f31ce3002 Survey: https://survey123.arcgis.com/share/?open=web&embed=fullScreen&id=88dd2e3364424668815de2bd387e2a0c&hide=navbar,footer,theme MDOT really seems to be putting in an effort here. They put in some pretty nice elements; a possible Grand Rapids sign on the overpass, murals and lighting for underpasses and some artful vegetation for the berms and walls. While some of these may be tossed out during the process, one can be hopeful! Now for my opinion, Wealthy Street should be an underpass. Nothing about a narrow overpass over a freeway (that probably would ice easier during the winter?) screams walkability. While MDOT tries to make an overpass appealing with the Grand Rapids sign, it just doesn’t seem pedestrian friendly. Maybe they could move the Grand Rapids sign over to MLK Jr. (Franklin) Street since they plan on taking away the exits there? It’s awesome that they are trying to accommodate trails in the plan, which would improve walkability even more.
  6. If Corewell really wanted to contribute to the vibrancy of the neighborhood, they could just look to their neighbor at 601 Bond (ground level retail, parking above that and at the top whatever else they want to include).
  7. It’s great that Woodland is getting some love despite the recent occurrences. This Wall Street Journal article is pretty depressing describing other malls: https://www.wsj.com/articles/local-malls-stuck-in-death-spiral-plunge-in-value-a7998b7d#:~:text=Large mall anchors like Macy's,the industry%2C” Tibone said. The first thing that came to mind, despite the obvious Rogers Plaza, is Rivertown. Wow has that mall fallen; half of the parking garage is fenced off, framing is visible at the main entrance, the escalators aren’t working, carousel is closed and it was unusually warm (trying not to pay for cooling?)
  8. 555 N Monroe belongs to the city. Right now it’s used as an event venue and skate park. It will probably be a park in the future, at least that is what they had initially planned with the rapids project… https://downtowngr.org/our-work/projects/555-monroe
  9. All of the other Wahlburgers closed in Michigan. I think GR was the last.
  10. The first thing that comes to mind with this was the forecast for the Pyramid project. Now those were some numbers.
  11. So, El Sombrero really permanently closed?
  12. I thought we already talked about the “Bridge to Applebee’s”
  13. So Wyoming is building a pricey pedestrian bridge over 28th Street from the Hom Flats apartments to… Applebee’s? There’s actually quite a bit packed in their press release, though. https://www.wyomingmi.gov/About-Wyoming/News/ID/1259/City-of-Wyoming-to-Receive-6-Million-from-Kent-County-ARPA-Funding?fbclid=IwAR3QCpEBGlCrL2ZAz1eEwkF4x7zZJjvqv2QMbeNtTijlmkbdycS2L1txEsk&mibextid=Zxz2cZ
