  1. My number of 3 - 5000 seats is just a rough back-of-the-napkin estimate based on 20 rows of seats. I might be way low.
  2. Yes, I googled it after I posted that, haha. They also did the concourse expansion back in 2010/11.
  3. Why does the name Rosetti sound so familiar? Did they do Van Andel Arena?
  4. Funding is secured. That IS interesting.
  5. The Right Place. Here's more info on it. https://www.rightplace.org/events/developer-day-2022
  6. 20 rows puts it at around 3000 - 5000 seats. Like Fort Worth. https://fortworthbusiness.com/government/fort-worth-vaqueros-planning-5000-seat-stadium/
  7. City officials are up in arms that developers are not even close to meeting the city's housing goals. But really, it's not the developers' fault. I think we're going to see some serious housing proposals downtown over the next 3-5 years, with the city opening up their arsenal of incentives to help make them happen. I think it will greatly eclipse the downtown housing we've seen built over the last 10 years.
  8. I noticed that too. Seems very specific. I like that they're looking at keeping the older buildings on Douglas, like my idea from 2021.
  9. Any update on the library ramp project? I found this rendering that I don't think I've seen before. I guess it's just a slightly different version of this concept:
  10. In poking around the development site at the city, I see that Condado Tacos is taking over the Omelette Shoppe in Breton Village. 2nd location for GR then.
  11. Wow, that is interesting. That portal is down but I found it digging around the other way. 336,000 square feet is a pretty sizable project. 13 McConnell is the manufacturing facility right in the middle of the overhead (Spectrum Industries?). Parts of that complex are kind of cool, wonder if they'll incorporate the older sections into the new project?
  12. It's a little pricey but I signed up for this tour of development sites, including the Sligh building. https://web.cvent.com/event/e1729d7a-6c67-4c6f-a475-8615f7378786/summary?i=Estf0ZLvnUC8NYqZs_LcuA&locale=en-US
  13. So that's 3 tower cranes in the air (Monroe North, Studio Park and here). I'm feeling a bit better.
  14. Whoa. That looks like a professionally made site plan. I like the plaza going out to Pearl Street. And interestingly someone even added tennis or pickleball courts to the Y . I'm guessing the light blue boxes are a pedestrian access to the far DASH 9 lots for YMCA users and soccer game attendees?
  15. I was surprised they were that low. I'd imagine they'll go up in price when it gets closer to sale time. I figured $600K minimum.
  16. A great vantage point for this project is up in the rooftop bar Knoop in the Canopy Hotel. You can look right down on the crane base out the West windows.
  17. Wow, I forgot about that proposal. Studio Park is way nicer. I also chuckle when I open this thread to the first page (not logged in) and the theater project shows up. http://media.mlive.com/grandrapidspress/photo/2012/04/10822613-standard.jpg
  18. Grand Rapids Metro had the 2nd lowest rental vacancy rate in the country last quarter, according to this website (was mentioned in the apartment project article on the river on Ann Street): https://www.helpadvisor.com/community-health/rental-vacancy-by-city-state-report I'm not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing.
  19. Awesome news. Anyone heard any word on what's going to happen with Elk Brewing?
  20. "Sports bar" doesn't have the greatest connotation to me but maybe it will turn out cool. I can't help but think of Peppino's or Uccello's.
  21. I don't disagree with your sentiment that they're not acting like real "Christians", but again, you're approaching this discussion from a purely religious perspective. Try re-wording your argument and take all references to God out of it. Because God and no religion have any business deciding what content should go in a public library. If you took any and all religious beliefs out of this discussion, the library millage would have passed. Of course it would have. As evidenced by a meeting at the library the other night after the vote, apparently many people expressed confusion that the library would close without funding, lol.
  22. How can you say it's not a Christian thing? If you had never picked up or read or been taught the bible, you would have no reason to be against same sex consenting adults being together. And you wouldn't be against young people struggling with their sexuality and looking for resources to turn to. That's what this is about: a small group of parents protesting the LGBTQ materials in the library. I didn't see the ring-leader of this protest mention anything about books about straight couples and straight people. It has only become tainted with politics because politicians and pundits have chosen to do so. Having worked in the Jamestown area over the last 2 years, it's pretty sad because the library is one of the only redeeming structures in the little "downtown" area there. It's meant to resemble the train station that served the Interurban that ran through there back in the old days. *Also, there are facebook pages now in support of the library plus super-long reddit threads about it. Rumors fly in those places.
