  1. Wasn't The Polk Building supposed to be 'given' to J&W as the final part of the incentives for relocating to Charlotte? I think it got held up by Gov Purdue...maybe Mayor Pat can get it moving again.
  2. That article is 3 months old...has there been anything since?
  3. Charlotte Hounds / MLL in the news: http://m.deadspin.com/5958909/black-lacrosse-player-boycotts-equipment-company-over-ninja-please-slogan-threatens-to-retire
  4. Thanks for the replies. My office would be on Market, so sounds like being closer would be better. Any thoughts on the neighborhood listed above? And is being near/right on Wrightsville Ave a concern? I know it's a one way through there...but couldn't guage how much traffic it handles.
  5. Anyone here familiar w/ living in Wilmington? Considering a new job down there, but wanted to see if anyone had insight into living there? Been there countless times on vacation, but never lived there. Looking at some of the downtown neighborhoods (Carolina Place, Forest Hills, Ardmore, etc) as they seem similar to were we are now. (I would have tried this on the Wilmington UP board, but that place is dead...and CityData seems just seems like alot of bomb throwers)
  6. http://freemorewest.com/events/1/Taste-of-FreeMore Come out to FreeMoreWest's first annual Taste of FreeMore on Saturday, October 6th! Grab your friends & neighbors and head on up to the Burger Co. parking lot from 4pm-8pm. They are hosting The Blue Dogs from Charleston and 42 Colplay tribute band for some live tunes. Since it's October, what better way to celebrate than to sip some local beers from Four Friends Brewing and Birdsong Brewing? Sample food from the area's restaurants, Savor Café, Pinky's Westside Grill, The Burger Company, The World Famous Open Kitchen, Picante Mexican Grill and ice cream from Dairy Queen! Food items will be $1 to $5 and they will be serving food & drinks from 4-8 pm. Please bring pencil donations for Classroom Central to benefit underprivileged students or household donations (and computers) for Goodwill to our onsite donation station. This is a family-friendly event with FREE admission, and cash only for food and drinks. Also, check out our local art tent, and fun stuff for the kiddies! See you there!
  7. Yes, BBT Ballpark will use both lots on either side of 3rd. That's why I was wondering about the VPC building and access to Uptown from West Charlotte.
  8. So what's happening to the Virginia Paper Company building? I assume demolished. And will there be a replacement / rerouting of 3rd coming for The West Side? Or will we now have to use MLK or Trade?
  9. The triangular piece of land at W 4th, J&W Way, and Victoria Ave has a construction fence up and I think the sign said 'Gateway West Apts'.
  10. (a forwarded email I received) Friends, Baseball Enthusiasts, Charlotte Enthusiasts, General Do-Gooders, Those bored on a Sunday Evening, Please join a group of like-minded folks in Charlotte’s first BASEBALL FLASH MOB to support bringing the Knights home to Uptown! On Sunday, May 6 at 6:30PM we will gather at the corner of 3rd and Mint and play a game of baseball (wiffle ball). There will be music, photo opportunities for kids and adults alike, and a chance for everyone to swing a bat on the future site of the Charlotte Knights Uptown Stadium! What you need to know: Please wear either a white or navy shirt and we will divide up teams accordingly. If we have any umpires, little leaguers, softballers—please come dressed in your uniform! Feel free to make signs or wear Knights gear to show your support for the team. Please help spread the word! Look forward to seeing you on the pitch.
  11. Have the zoning changes to the old Beazer land been approved? Noticed today the the security fencing is going up and there was a 'gateway' at Morehead & Clarkson (although it might have been a mock-up)
  12. Picante Mexican Grill is now open. http://picantemexicangrill.com 1500-A W Morehead Ave (next to Burger Company)
  13. More apartments coming to the West Side. 270 units off of West Morehead (intersection of Millerton Ave) http://www.bizjournals.com/charlotte/print-edition/2012/03/02/greensboro-firm-plans-w-morehead.html
  14. The Blockbuster is in fact closing...and is becoming a Sherwin-Williams store.
  15. Is the Blockbuster on East Blvd going out of business? Noticed yesterday signs in the windows about 'All DVDs On Sale', 'Everything Must Go' and 'All Sales Final'.
  16. No Cuy on the menu? Would be worth the drive for the Incacola alone....
  17. Headed into Uptown on 4th, there's a banner hanging on the railroad trestle/underpass (right before Graham St). Has the date and the Park and Rec website.
  18. I agree w/ this completely, but given the stink that was raised when the school board tried to tweak the MPHS boundaries ever so slightly, I just don't see a wholesale change ever happening.
  19. CMS's arbitrary line of everyone south of Brevard slotted for Myers Park (yet going all the way south to Pineville-Matthews Rd) is completely bizarre. How many kids could it have possibly added to incl all of Uptown, Third Ward, west through Wesley Heights and east to Midwood when they redrew the lines? http://www.cms.k12.n...yersPark_HS.pdf
  20. Ideas on the best place to find a short-term (4 to 6 weeks) furnished rental? Preferably Uptown or nearby. Looking for a place for my in-laws to stay, but most of what I have seen online either requires a 3 month contract, or is excessively expensive (> $2k / month). Wonder if they could just squat in The Vue?
  21. Interesting, but I have to ask…for what purpose? Just to run the restored #85 somewhere? I am sure the people of Wesley Heights will welcome the trolley running through our neighborhood, but it seems like a large undertaking for a one mile trip. Also, who will uncover the tracks under I-77 and along the greenway? They are currently buried under gravel. And will the greenway still be open to pedestrians with an active trolley running?
