  1. TH I’ve never met you in person, but I always looks forward to your posts on here. I’d wondered why you hadn’t been around much lately. I’m so sorry about the passing of your parents. I can’t imagine. It’s hard for me that my parents are in Tennessee and I’m here in Virginia Beach. I get to see them once or twice a year if I’m lucky. Every time I leave, I can’t help to feel like it could be the last time I see one of them.  I hope that you are doing well during such a trying time. Also, it’s nice to see you back.

Well, Wiki is DEAD WRONG.  I started work at ESa at the time the building was under design and there were several models of the tower spires being made in what we called the "WarRoom".  These were quite large.  I really don't consider the exterior design just "interiors".  To claim otherwise is horse pucky ( I mean something more pungent but folks with fragile ears censor it).

Thanks for sharing. I love the building, so any inside stories about its design is pretty amazing. I’d love to see those models. Heck I’d love to see the architectural model of the building. Any idea if it’s still around?

Nice pic although I'm a bit confused as to the timing of this one. It appears that Amazon II is still in that stalled state before construction resumed, and the section of Second Ave (Market Street) that was bombed looks intact. Yet the Embassy Suites looks quite far along in its construction. Lately I've been using the Four Seasons as a guide for timing more recent photos, but that's out of the frame here.

This must be the beginning of 2021. You can still see the blast marks on the telecommunications building.

The exterior of 1 Hotel is going to be covered in 10-15’ flowing ivy on the lobby level, which should really add some life to all this glass and cement. A friend of mine is in charge of the greenhouses that are supplying all the plants for this hotel. The rooms themselves are to be filled with all sorts of tropical plants as well. I’m excited to see how it comes together.

Any idea when they will begin placing the greenery on the exterior?

That's probably the reason why they're so reluctant to build one in Nashville. There's already 3-4 Ikeas in about a 3-4 hour drive from Memphis, Indy, and Atlanta.  However, Atlanta does have two Ikeas in the same metro, but Nashville can't even get one.  It makes no sense.

But yet we got one here in Hampton Roads. We literally have three stores in the NORVA/D.C./Baltimore metro. I will say the one in Norfolk does seem to do well and it is nice not having to drive 2.5 hours up to Woodbridge, VA.

This video made me really miss two specific things…the lights in the trees at Riverfront Park (and along Second Avenue, although they didn’t show 2nd) and the lights that once outlined the “R2-D2” building!

Otherwise, all I can say is “we’ve come a long way, baby!”

Yes exactly!! I wish they would bring the argon lights back. The skyline had better lighting back then lol.

I think the verticality of the windows actually make the building look taller. When looking from this angle with the other buildings, its not as bad as some of you guys let on, IMO.

You took the words right out of my mouth and I haven’t seen it in person since May. Definitely looks better than the monstrosity to the right of it. Just my opinion though.
