I thought it was interesting in his interview when he said he likes clean lines for his buildings with no appendages. Ummm Signature Tower had a giant appendage on top! His tastes have obviously changed lol.

Do you know where is south Nashville the photo was taken from? I didn’t hear her mention a name in her video.

I see the tagging didn’t take long on the content wall at the very bottom.

Since this thread popped back up I’ve been reading about Huntsville. I’ve never visited, and have only passed by to visit family in Birmingham many years ago. I never really thought much of the city. I mean you can’t even see it from the interstate. I was today days old when I found out it’s Alabama’s largest city. I always thought it was Birmingham. Mind blown!

Couldn’t someone ask one of the workers onsite if they know anything about the tower progress?

Probably one of the strangest skyscrapers I’ve ever seen.

Fins will be lit but they can’t be uplit due to Dark Skies regulations. The intent is to be able to see these fins as a wayfinding element. Hop out of the doors of the Music City Center along Demonbreun or 5th Ave…look north. The fins are about all that pop over the Baptist church so it works as intended. So there’ll be light shining down on either side of each fin as of now.
Interesting.

Well finally. Not like originally planned, but something. I wonder if that’s the finished product?
it wasn’t on tonight.

I was stationed in Japan for two years in the Tokyo area and visited all the time. That’s a normal crowd for Shibuya Crossing. Also, there are many elevated crosswalks throughout the area and many cars. It’s a very nice system and you’d never think you were in a metropolis of 38 million people.
My son is currently stationed in the same area with the Navy, and takes the train everywhere. He says he doesn’t miss driving at all, and has no desire to come back to the states anytime soon. He really loves it there.

Yes! I was trying to find that with no luck.

I never really thought about this until seeing this picture, but intentional or not, the 6 lights look like the strings on a guitar fret.

I don't know where they are but someone downtown still uses spotlights, I can see them sometimes from my house in West Nashville when it's cloudy.
There are/were 6 of them. They were stationary and basically beamed straight up into the sky. Looked pretty cool from afar when lit.

Very underwhelming. But it fits Nashville because it’s a box.

I loved those! I’m guessing they were sacrificed in the furtherance of the cause of the “dark skies” movement.
Haha so that’s why Nashville is so lacking for exterior lighting on its towers.

Looking at these old pictures of the arena reminded me of something about its exterior lighting. Remember when it had spotlights on the roof that beamed up into the sky? Are they still used?

I thought I would share this google maps view of the Ikea in Woodbridge, VA which as previously mentioned is a suburb in the greater Washington, DC area. This Ikea location sits across from Potomac Mills mall. As you can see from the view, it doesn't have large parking lots for the store itself. The store has a parking garage underneath it that is the full length and width of the building. If Ikea builds in Nashville, I hope they follow suit with the Woodbridge store even if it is in the suburbs. This store proves that you don't need massive parking lots for it to work well. I know some will assume that since it is located next to a mall that customers may use the parking lots nearby for Ikea as well. Actually that seems to be relatively rare. It really isn't convenient to use the lot across the mall access road from the Ikea store due to the constant flow of traffic for the nearby Costco store and gas station. The parking across the street designated as Ikea parking is really more for overflow than anything else.
I would travel to this IKEA all the time before Hampton Roads (Norfolk/VA Beach) got one. The Woodbridge store is on a small parcel of land thanks to the parking garage. Even the store in Norfolk does not seem to take up a lot of land. There’s a small parking lot and a garage. I remember when the store location was announced thinking how the heck is an IKEA going to fit there? It’s right off of I-64 and Norfolk Premium Outlets is on the other side of the interstate, as well as the airport.

I visited my folks for new year and am currently on my way back to Virginia Beach. We did some driving around, and as usual I was blown away by all the new developments. SoBro, the Gulch, and NY have really transformed downtown. It’s like an entirely new city. My only complaint is that Middle Tennessee really needs to clean up. It’s so trashy along the interstate and interchanges. Road debris, garbage, dead animals, you name it. There was nowhere else like this on our long trip from Virginia Beach to Clarksville. What gives? Are people just littering more in MT? Is there no inmate workforce to pick up trash? Do people not care? Tennessee and of course MT are so beautiful so it’s a little disheartening, and embarrassing. I’m sure it being winter does not help since most of the vegetation is dead and trash is more visible. I don’t remember it appearing this bad in the summer months.

If it wasn’t for the TN tower and James K. Polk office building on the left, I’d could almost pass for a different city. I’m blown away how much the skyline has changed.
