  1. Northbound I-85 is two lanes past Exit 58 (US29, US601; Kannapolis, Concord) but just recently opened up to the full four lanes halfway between Exits 58 and 60. The highway narrows down back to two lanes as you approach Exit 63 (Kannapolis). I'm also pleased to say that southbound I-85 has opened up to all four lanes through most of Concord/Kannapolis. I didn't pay close enough attention to remember which exit this starts at, but I believe it's somewhere around Exit 63.
  2. All four southbound lanes of I-85 have opened up from Exit 58 (US29, US601; Kannapolis, Concord) southward. Northbound still has lanes three and four coned off.
  3. Try Roby Handyman at https://robyhandyman.com/. Everything under one roof.
  4. Thank you for the update! I've seen new lane markings across all four lanes on various parts in Kannapolis and wondered if we were close.
  5. Thank you for sharing this resource. If you are interested in viewing photography older than 1978, Historic Aerials has photography dating back to 1960 for the Charlotte-Metro region.
  6. I follow a local photographer who recently posted this picture.
  7. A city, rising from the trees, jutting into the blue sky.
  8. You're referencing the Historic Salisbury Foundation OctoberTour. Next even is October 14 & 15, 2017.
  9. Also in the district are Rail Walk Studios & Gallery, Lee St Theater, Waterwork Visual Arts Center, as well as many stand-alone art installations.
  10. No, there's an Arts District that's alive and well here. I'm not too familiar with the area, but I did go take a walk and snap some pictures for you. New Sarum Brewing & Arts District Sign Lost & Found Sorry, I have many more images, I just can't seem to attach them right now.
  11. To add to what's happening in Salisbury, a new microbrewery will be opening soon in the Arts District, one block north of the Lee St Theater. The microbrewery is owned by Morgan Ridge Vineyards and Brewhouse out of Gold Hill, NC. It will operate a wholesale brewery business out of the N Lee St side and a restaurant on the railroad tracks side with indoor and outdoor seating. This is in addition to New Sarum Brewing which is located three blocks south.
  12. I remember getting a speeding ticket from a CMPD officer for going 65 in a 55 on the stretch between US-29 and I-85. This was the evening of the day this segment first opened, and there were no lights whatsoever. I still don't know where he came from, but all of a sudden, there were white and blue lights in my rear-view mirror.
  13. Just saw the Bing car driving through Kannapolis, taking pictures.
  14. A movie called Paper Towns is being filmed in the Charlotte area. Opening is scheduled for June of 2015. Looks like they're trying to get under the wire before the film incentives expire. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3622592/ http://www.citizen-times.com/story/carol-motsinger/2014/10/14/casting-call-paper-towns-concord/17240709/
  15. Another update on I-85/I-485 The permanent off/on ramp from the 485 inner loop to 85 northbound is now operating. With that change, the old I-85/I-485 interchange is now completely out of commission.
  16. An update on I-85/I-485: The semi-temporary off/on ramp from southbound 85 to the 485 inner loop is now operating. The permanent off/on ramp from northbound 85 to the 485 inner loop is now operating. The temporary off/on ramp from the outer loop of 485 to southbound 85 is now operating. That ramp crosses across the 485 inner loop (previously oncoming traffic lines) and shares an overpass with southbound 84 to 485 traffic, similar to how it previously operated. With the shift a couple of weeks ago for southbound 85 traffic north of Exit 55 (73), all 85 traffic now travels on newly constructed highway. There is no longer any part of "old" 85 left to travel on that is part of the current construction project.
  17. As a long-term resident of Cabarrus County, I am ready to see any scenario in which Concord calls Smith's bluff. My gut says that team owners and drivers will lean heavily on him to retain the October race in Concord for the simple pleasure of having the opportunity to sleep in their own beds.
  18. I believe you may be thinking about Origami Ink. http://www.yelp.com/biz/origami-ink-charlotte
  19. Old news but not seen in this thread, NASCAR Speedpark has closed to make room for Sea Life. I heard construction workers in there on Wednesday. http://www.nascarspeedpark.com/nc.aspx
  20. Currently only two lanes northbound from Spenser to Linwood and four lanes southbound from just after the Bill's Truck Stop exit all the way into Salisbury. The four lanes southbound is quite nice!
  21. it looks like a portion of south bound I-85 will shift to the new lanes starting tomorrow night. http://www.charlotteobserver.com/2012/11/13/3662764/traffic-shift-planned-for-i-85.html
  22. An update on I-85 construction in Concord: The newly paved south bound lanes have road markings and reflectors. Also, the south-facing ramp from the temporary overpass is being demolished. The north-facing ramp is still intact.
  23. I drove through the Trade and Tryon intersection tonight and noticed that the "gold" manhole cover has been paved over. I assume this was related to the DNC. Is this permanent?
  24. I'm no engineer, but it would appear that a temporary overpass is being created a quarter-mile north of the current Poplar Tent overpass. I would assume this is to allow a new permanent overpass to be built for Poplar Tent.
  25. I'm not sure if you are familiar with the area, but there is a Chick-fil-A across Concord Mills Blvd from the mall. On the mall side of I-85, there is a TGI Fridays, Sticky Fingers, Dennys, Razzoo's, On The Border, Applebees, Red Lobster, Olive Garden, Burger King, McAllisters, The Mayflower, and many other smaller restaurants.
