  1. Interesting. I'd been wondering what would be going there since that whole side of the street on that block is practically empty.
  2. Ha, it could just be the way the two images are cropped but it looks like they've added some extra sky above it and a nice sunset as if to say "Relax, it's not going to block out the sun and sky."
  3. Ha. Potted plants? Check! Water fountain? Check! Hopefully they can work something out renovate the spaces, both Lonnie's & The Fiddle & Steel could use it (I'm not sure about The Brass Stables), and keep the business. I may have to go down there this weekend and take it in while I still can!
  4. Printers Alley is one of the best little gems in town. Losing theses establishments is a step in the wrong direction. Sometimes you need a little grit, and sometimes you just need a drink downtown away from Broadway. A lot of the musicians that play downtown hangout at The Fiddle & Steel and Lonnie's is always packed with Vandy kids. These are places downtown catering to both locals and tourist. I'm sure a boutique hotel would be real nice and all and I would love to see the building restored but this will be a net loss for Nashville. Apparently a lot of other people agree- the Save Printers Alley Facebook page already has over 10,000 Likes. https://m.facebook.com/SavePrintersAlley As for the scrap yard, yeah it will take lot of money to get them to move and clean up the ground contamination. Let's hope a mutually beneficial scenario arises!
  5. The final public meeting for the Envision Cayce Master Plan is tomorrow afternoon. This looks like an ambitious project if they can actually make it happen. The area could certainly benefit from it. From the Cayce Place Revitalization Foundation's facebook page... Public Meeting Announcement: MDHA has announced the final public meeting to discuss the Envision Cayce Master Plan. Where: Martha O’Bryan Center (711 South 7th St.) When: 5:30pm on Tuesday, July 1st Although this public presentation of the master plan for Cayce Place is months later than originally expected, there have been important developments in the interim. 1) Jim Harbison was named Executive Director late last year. Harbison was most recently Director for Nashville Multifamily Program Center for HUD. He has a deep commitment to revitalizing our oldest family housing communities. 2) MDHA purchased CWA Plaza. A successful revitalization of Cayce Place could not be implemented without incorporating CWA Plaza so this was an important step. 3) Early indications that HUD’s Rental Assistance Demonstration Program (RAD) will be expanded in the September 2015 congressional budget, which would allow MDHA to move forward with the Envision Cayce plan. Please come to the July 1st meeting at the Martha O’Bryan Center to show support and to view the plan. The Envision Cayce plan is the culmination of over a year of engaging residents, stakeholders and the surrounding community. Here are some highlights: 1) 1 for 1 replacement of the existing subsidized housing units 2) Existing residents get first priority to return 3) 1,500 additional affordable housing units 4) Mixed use to include retail 5) Better access to public transportation The scope of the plan is far beyond anything MDHA has done in the past. Envision Cayce is not a project that simply restores or rehabilitates public housing. It incorporates many of the key components implemented in successful revitalization efforts around the country. It will reshape East Nashville and redefine Nashville as a progressive city dedicated to breaking the cycle of multi-generational poverty. It provides a real opportunity to address the challenges of concentrated poverty, to lift families up and to ensure the 1,200 children at Cayce Place can realize their full potential. There remains work to be done to ensure that world-class education is an embedded component of this plan as well as job opportunities for residents during demolition and construction. Please come to show your support.
  6. That's certainly better than the burnt out house that sat on that lot for a few years! Does anyone know what the deal is with the other two (NW & SE corners) empty lots at that intersection? That old auto detailing building could make for a cool coffee shop or something.
  7. Judging from the craziness downtown today it looks like Broadway and the area around Bridgestone/Hall of Fame will be on display tonight on the CMT Music Awards. They've been rehearsing have some outdoor performances either during the red carpet or main show. I know last year they had performances outside of Bridgestone and and it made the city look really cool. Looks like the red carpet starts at 7 (6 central) with the main show starting at 8 (7 central). Let the Fan Fair invasion begin!
  8. Cool photo! Man this really makes me wish the interstate didn't cut right through the town like it does.
  9. Carnival KIA Complex at Sulphur Dell ... presented by Adelphia. Dibs on first ride on the ferris wheel!
  10. I've always heard that at some point in the past one of the governors wanted a four lane highway from the interstate to every county seat in the state.
  11. I was by there earlier today and they've demolished the old structures & have runoff barriers up.
  12. I was told by one of the tenants that the apartment property at the top of the hill on Shelby Ave (apx 910 Shelby) was being sold/renovated and that all of the tenants have to be out by July 1st. If you are looking from downtown this is the property with the red roof you can see sticking through the trees at the top of the hill.
  13. No shill here. I've been following the boards since at least 09 and lived in the area since 2000. And while I only come out of the wood work to throw something in from the peanut gallery every so often I do check the Nashville boards on a pretty much daily basis.
  14. The aerial photos recently posted of the the new roundabout and SoBro area got me thinking that Peabody St would be cool if it was converted into a pedestrian friendly shopping area like the (albeit on a smaller scale) 3rd St Promenade in Santa Monica. I think that could be awesome once the area gets built up and would give convention goers something other than Broadway/Gulch to walk to and would address the lack of downtown retail. Thoughts?
  15. I have a friend who's a much bigger baseball fan and over the years he has played devils advocate for building a new Sounds stadium because it would kill any chances of Nashville getting a MLB team in the future. I'm not familiar with the baseball landscape enough to really weigh in on it other than currently it seem like Nashville might be too small of a market although geographically it seems like the city would be a good fit in the future. What do you guys think?
  16. I for one welcome Huddle House. I've always had good experiences with them. They have more on there menu than Waffle House like fries & cheese sticks. They have both Tabasco & Texas Pete! Plus there Vidalia Onion Stake Sauce is awesome. It's not quite the Plalm, but from my extensive research over the years between the hours of 1am-5am I've always found it to be a suitable option. ...well, at least the times I can actually recall!
  17. From the Nashville Scene. The Johnny Cash mural has gotten a refresh.
  18. Nashville Post is saying that Red Door is expanding.
  19. That whole area south of 5-Points seems ready for a little mini-development boom. Two buildings on the corner of 10th & Shelby (including one that was burnt out) have been torn down and the Fannie Battle preschool on the north side of Shelby between 9th & 10th is being leveled as we speak. There are also a few other empty lots right around there.
  20. The crain behind the red communication building was removing the tower off of the top of it. It was only there for a week or two & is gone now. Not sure if there are any plans to put up a new one but the view is a lot nicer with it gone!
  21. A link to a site plan for the East Bank/North Jefferson St. concept. Not going to lie, I don't hate it. Especially with the incorporation of the marina. http://enclave-nashville.blogspot.com/2011/10/alternative-to-locating-ballpark-near.html The full size image of the plan. https://docs.google.com/viewer?pid=explorer&srcid=0B_l3GAtZila2NDgxZDJjNTAtMTUxMi00OWNhLThmZjQtNTkzNDZiOGYyMjYx&chrome=true&docid=0a15aed4d3ab1fe340e599345ec41674{sodEmoji.|}fd627ded36cba00ab593ab0bf79e9a32&a=bi&pagenumber=1&w=800
  22. I came across this the other day and imagined how awesome it would look if we had a grass lined rail system throughout Nashville! http://www.inhabitat.com/2009/01/27/europe...d-urban-design/ Any chance of us getting something like this?
