  1. I agree. I hate to see that property vacant. It's such a great location, and it's very well know because of the Coca-Cola sign.
  2. I completely missed that post. There are so many good ideas in this forum. We need to get Baton Rouge to wake up and realize the potential here. If this trail is created, I'd like to see it connect to Rouzan.
  3. I thought this deserved it's own thread. It's already been reported on here that BREC is planning it's first pathway between Siegen and Bluebonnet, Connecting the Mall of LA with Siegen Marketplace. Here's a link to the website: http://capp-online.org/index.html What other greenways would you like to see developed in Baton Rouge? I'd really like to see one along Bayou Duplantier that connects University Lake and LSU to Pennington Biomedical Research Center. It could also continue along Dawson creek and connect to the proposed trail at Perkins Rowe.
  4. I went to see a movie at Cinemark this past weekend, and I couldn't help but think that an ice cream shop is needed for Perkins Rowe. The space next to Fish City Grill would be nice, but I'm not sure if it's available. Baton Rouge's first Ben and Jerry's would be a great addition to the Rowe!
  5. Portobello's building changes hands The former Portobello
  6. No, No, No: Biloxi loses two chances at casino expansion Those betting on casino expansion in Biloxi were given a reality check Thursday by the Mississippi Gaming Commission, which turned down the South Beach Casino site, and the Biloxi Planning Commission, which voted 7-6 against rezoning 81 acres in East Biloxi to waterfront. http://www.sunherald.com/pageone/story/689915.html This is huge news for Biloxi in terms of casino developement. I think South Beach Casino would have been a wonderful development, and it would have spurred economic growth in an area of Biloxi that really needs it. Some type of mixed-use development is needed along hwy 90 between the old Broadwater site and Rodenburg Ave.
  7. LSU considers overhauling Nicholson housing LSU officials are looking at revitalizing a section of Nicholson Drive that could involve replacing apartments for married and graduate students with a mixed-use development. The university is working with Economic Research Associates to assess the area between West Chimes Street and Skip Bertman Drive, says Kristine Calongne, an LSU spokeswoman. Any new development would include improved graduate and family housing in order to recruit students, she says. "The goal is to use this gateway to campus in a manner that best serves the university community," she says. LSU has 578 apartments along Nicholson between the North Gates and Alex Box Stadium, and all of the units were built between the late 1950s and mid-1960s.
  8. Hotel King work to begin this month Demolition work on the Hotel King
  9. Groundbreaking for The Promenade set for July 15 The developers plan to officially break ground Tuesday for The Promenade retail center in D'Iberville but still haven't announced who the tenants will be.CBL & Associates Properties Inc., headquartered in Chattanooga, Tenn., and Forum Development Group from Atlanta acquired 72 acres northwest of the Interstate 10 and 110 intersection. The developers have already come before the D'Iberville Planning Commission and Council and received sign variances for Target's trademark bull's-eye signs, but the retailer hasn't made a formal announcement it will be one of the 11 anchors coming to D'Iberville. The 700,000-square-foot shopping center will also have more than 80,000 square feet of specialty shops and restaurants. The grand opening is scheduled for fall 2009. Link to Sun Herald article While this developement doesn't support new urbanism, I thought it deserved some attention since it will most likely be bringing some long awaited stores to the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
  10. That would really complement the look of Arlington Creek Centre
  11. I believe that's Perkins Rowe. I thought the same thing the first time I walked around that place. Someone needs to take a picture of the chandelier that's outside the Cinemark there.
  12. They've almost finished clearing the land for Arlington Creek Centre at Burbank and Lee. It's already transformed the Lee Drive corridor tremendously. Mike Anderson's is a lot more visible now. Does anyone know if they will be doing any road construction(besides the widening of Burbank) in this area to handle the extra traffic? It would be nice if they added left turn lanes to Lee where it intersects with Burbank.
  13. I read something a few days ago about an alarm company moving to the corner of Siegen and Airline Hwy. They bought the former Exxon site and will build on it. They're currently on Coursey.
  14. Developement Team Announced for Plan Baton Rouge Phase 2 The winner was Chan Krieger Sieniewicz. Work will begin this month! Here's a link from the Baton Rouge Business Report
  15. I do too! However, I have a feeling it will be awhile before one opens here(Charlotte just got theirs). I'd like to see an Ikea at the corner of I12 and wherever the loop connects.
  16. I'd like to see Taco Cabana open a restaurant near the LSU campus. They would do a ton of business, especially with all the students at LSU from Texas (which is where Taco Cabana began).
