  1. Part of their plan is to use existing rail lines I would think. It might not be feasible to tie in BTR.
  2. What they need to do is what they do here. When a subdivision does up, that subdivision builds the road that fronts the property. They put up the initial 2 or 3 lanes. When one goes up on the other side of the street they have to put in the other half of the divided road. That cost gets baked into the price of houses.
  3. Frontier pulled out of BTR a few years ago. They flew to Denver. The ridership numbers were good but the connection rate was very low which led to the decision to pull out.
  4. The longer you wait, the worse it gets, and the more expensive it becomes to fix. BR is going to have to make tough decisions. Cajun, you are right. It's not the same setup and TDOT at least is improving their road networks throughout Tennessee.
  5. Dallas has Love field which serves south west, delta, and a few other airlines. Collin county just north of Dallas is considering expanding its airport for regional service. If BR / NOLA grew to 7 million like DFW there would be room for two airports. You all are being too pessimistic.
  6. Dallas and Fort Worth are about 50 or 60 miles apart center to center. I would say in that relationship BTR would be the Fort Worth equivalent. Just the same, Fort Worth benefits immensely from Dallas being there.
  7. As far as BTR vs. NOLA goes. Look at other examples around the country, Dallas & Fort Worth, Minneapolis & St. Paul. Having and being the smaller city as part of a larger metroplex has benefited the entire region. If done correctly they both can flourish.
  8. I55 just outside of Memphis goes to one lane in a sharp curve. The only difference is its not downtown but it still is a bit of a cluster.
  9. Scrambling to fill it...it should not have been a surprise. In the initial press release for IBM they said they were not staying on Essen once the new building opens.
  10. It's hard not to look at all the companies that have left and wonder, what if they all stayed.
  11. I don't know if it's possible to say the tax credits cost more than they took in. You have to figure all the support companies, including studios to food caterer to local actors to hair stylists all benefited. I know the cost is a know and it was growing beyond belief but when you look at the impact to those not directly receiving the credit but having work because of it, I think it's a loss for the state.
  12. The company is relocating from the tech park on Florida to this new area. I'm sure they considered where their employees live (current and future) prior to making this choice. It sounds like they are going after young professionals. I don't see many young professionals signing up to live in NBR. I'm not saying gentrification can't happen or the area can't one day be desireable but as it stands today it's not IMO.
  13. I just moved to Frisco, TX and the difference is night and day. Here they passes a major tax initiative capping the max student population at 2400 per high school. They have 124 and counting elementary schools. This district is in the top 5% in the country. You get what you pay for in some respects. A 250k house has about an 8k property tax bill. Part of it is the home environment but proper funding is also critical.
  14. I chuckled too when they said high-rise for a 4 floor building. Will it be Livingston Parish's tallest building? Livingston gets a lot more pass through traffic. Ascension Parish has no interest in a 12 story building (IMO).
  15. They do realize that it's possible to build a parking garage as part of the building. Jez.
  16. Many on the Northshore identify themselves as being part of NOLA. Even though the city itself will not grow into BR the metro area will.
  17. Ascension's poor planning is why we are leaving it this year. I'm tired of sitting on two lane roads and waiting for someone to turn left. I'm tired of having to drive 20+ minutes to get to basic stores for normal household goods. I'm tired of the poor parks here. I think I posted this rant in the Ascension thread already. This could be a great place to live but poor planning and leadership will kill that. I'd love for there to be more options but MSY is too close. We had Frontier for a while but they pulled out due to lack of connections made by passengers. As for access, it's not bad but several times I've wished they had a fly ramp for those heading to or from downtown. MSY isn't bad if your coming from the east. If you are coming from the west, at best, it's on par with BTR. I hope for the new terminal this is fixed and they have fly ramps for both directions.
  18. The lack of space hasn't stopped growth in places like Manhattan or Tokyo. It's possible in the next 20 years NOLA starts growing tall amd increases it's population that way. Majority of the suburban growth will be in St Tammany Parish. If the BR NOLA metro were to grow together I would assume it's through the north shore.
  19. If you're going to give BR St. George then you have to give NOLA Metairie, plus I could make a solid argument for Kenner, Gretna, Harvey, Terrytown, Harahan, and Marrero. I think if you add those all up you'll be at around 900K for NOLA. With just Metairie it's close to 500k. NOLA metra is significantly larger and I would argue more important than BR. There's nothing wrong with that. When you go out of state, ask people what city comes to mind when they think of Louisiana and almost always NOLA is the only one they can name. If they know their state capitals they might get to BR.
  20. If it wasn't for the schools we would have stayed in EBR. A lot feel that way. I'm mixed on the idea of St. George. I honestly think it would slow the out migration to Livingston and AP. I don't know how it would affect the rest of the parish. I think in reality those that are for the new city are over promising and those against are over exaggerating. The bowling alley has helped bUT it gets expensive quick. Tanger is a decent shopping option. Ascension could be a great place but I doubt it ever gets beyond what it is now, a crappy suburb.
  21. At some time in the future (IMO soon) Ascension Parish will hit a roadblock on people moving to the Parish. The main reason, poor (very poor) infrastructure to support the population. I hate living in Ascension parish because of the lack of options to get into and out of EBR. Many of our neighbors feel the same way. We all bought into the idea of better schools, better life, etc and it just isn't materializing for a lot of us. Yes the schools are good but that's the only good thing I can say about the place. Poor park system, poor road network system, no public transit, minimal corporate presence, poor sewer system, poor entertainment options, poor aesthetics of the area (AP as a whole is dirty!) and on and on. It would be cheaper for us to live in BR and pay for private school than the extra costs associated with Ascension Parish and having to leave the parish for almost everything. Tanger is a decent shopping center, I do like having it available but unless you live in the area getting to it is a pain. We are planning to sell our house probably later this year and will likely relocate to Frisco, TX. I can get a nice pay increase to take a new job in Dallas that will be larger than the cost of living increase. We will have a better overall quality of life. That area is far from perfect but the grass surly looks much greener from here. If you've never been to Frisco you should check it out. Very nice area.

  23. Mr Bernham, No. I had to take care of a ticket and appear so I could sign up for an online course to get the ticket waived. I agree Richy, it would be awesome if a nice modern 15 to 20 floor building were to occupy those lots.
