  1. Does anyone know what's going on next to Istrouma Baptist Church on I-12 at Airline? A large tract of land between the church and I-12 has been cleared with construction stakes in the ground. I haven't seen or heard anything announced. I figured someone on here would know.
  2. I just discovered this fascinating blog on historic BR. One of the best sites for historic BR buildings and events I've come across. Check it out and comment. The blogger says it's been up for a year and he's not gotten much comment. I'm sure the BR experts on UP will have a lot to comment on and contribute. http://historicalbatonrouge.blogspot.com/
  3. Has anybody noticed that a tract of land on the north side of Corporate Blvd north of Citiplace has been cleared? Any idea of what this might be?
  4. Is this the wooded lot across I-110 from DOTD? I was hoping for something along the lines of a mixed development or at least something a bit more "urban" but I can understand that with the economy like it is now, we're lucky in BR to be still getting any new developments. I always thought that that site right across from DOTD and close to all the other new state offices could support a development of condos/apartments and some retail aspect.
  5. Any inkling of what if anything is actually going on here or just wishful thinking? I hope some high rise goes there but I haven't heard of any other new development planned lately.
  6. Just a small note. I was on 3rd Street today and the doors were open on the building at 3rd and Florida. (The building with the Coca-Cola sign on top.) It looked like some cleaning out of trash was going on. Maybe in preparation for construction soon. This is a prime site downtown and really needs to open back up soon as some sort of restaurant/entertainment venue.
  7. This is oil. Haynesville is natural gas. This is not the original Tuscaloosa Trend. This is oil shale.
  8. This development will be HUGE for the Baton Rouge Metro area and Louisiana as a whole. East Feliciana, West Feliciana and northen East Baton Rouge are part of this massive oil shale field and BR is poised with it's infrastructure to profit immensely from it. Check out the channel 2 video from today at the bottom of this link. http://tuscaloosamarineshale.com/index.html
  9. This ought to be a great event for families and history buffs. AIR IT UP! AUGUST 16
  10. Has anyone noticed the new construction starting on the north side of I-12 next to the Essen/Jefferson west bound on ramp on Brentwood drive? It's a small lot on a single family residential street but this isn't a single family residence. Anyone know what this is going to be?
  11. Children's Museum plans are progressing. Link to Daily Report article, museum website and photos of the proposed museum. http://www.businessreport.com/archives/daily-report/latest/ http://www.knockknockmuseum.org/ http://www.businessreport.com/photos/galle...renderings/255/
  12. I found this on an article from Allbusiness.com from 9/12/06. It says that Blue Cross owns a 40 acre tract next to their headquarters that they are considering selling to developers for a retail/office development but that when the article was written, there were no concrete plans. That was in 2006 though. Maybe plans are underway now. This looks like a nice development. Something nice will go on that valuable land eventually. If not this then something similar. 13. Three feature films shooting in Baton Rouge this week. Three feature film productions are shooting in Baton Rouge this week, according to the Baton Rouge Film Commission. "The Open Road," starring Justin Timberlake and Jeff Bridges, is about the relationship between a young man and his estranged father, a baseball legend. Universal Pictures' "Cirque du Freak," starring Salma Hayek and John C. Reilly, is an action adventure directed by Paul Weitz ("American Pie," "About a Boy"). And Mike Epps "Comedy Mixtape, Vol. 1" is currently in production at the Celtic Media Centre. Post-production is in progress on a number of projects that recently shot in Baton Rouge, including "The Abduction of Jesse Bookman" and "Middle of Nowhere. Looks like things are really starting to pick up at the Celtic Media Center. </SPAN>
  14. Here's a project for all of you BR development experts. I've been thinking about this for a while. Has anyone figured out how many total floors of office/residential/parking has been added and how many more are currently planned to downtown BR in the last few years? With the new state office complex, the new courthouse, CityPlaza II, the Shaw center development, the new Belle of BR parking garage, the new La. Credit Union Building, etc, etc. It has to be well over a hundred floors of new development. And with Riverplace Condos and the Advocate development and others, it might be getting close to 150??? Richy, Dan, anybody?
  15. Another major development on the way to BR. Developer has bought 29 commercial lots for a development on Nicholson Drive. Possibly another TND. How many TND's are now open, being developed or planned in BR? Richy? Lafayette development group has purchased twenty-nine residential lots along Nicholson Drive, which were being marketed together in an attempt to stimulate development in the area between downtown and LSU. Moreno Properties, headed up by oilman Mike Moreno, purchased the lots, which total more than 10 acres, in a deal that wrapped up earlier this week. While Moreno Properties would not disclose what it paid for all of the land, the company made eight purchases on Nicholson since November for a total value of $4.25 million. David Trusty, an agent with Gully, Phelps & McKey, packaged the lots together in 2006 when he got a group of homeowners along Nicholson to agree to sell together for the right price. In a statement, Matthew Emory of Moreno said the land was purchased for investment purposes. There have been rumors that a TND will be built on the site.
