  1. "Plus while GSP's smallness may mean that it won't have all of the things that frequent fliers expect, such as elite-friendly setups at car rental agencies, it also won't have all of the hassles that frequent fliers expect at larger airports. So it's a tradeoff." Fair point but how do we know that GSP isn't planning to implement some of the things expected from frequent flyers? Has anyone asked....that was and is my central point. It's possible that they won't but it's certainly worth asking or pointing out to the appropriate people. "I am from Greenville and my family has been there since the 1800s. I decided that it's not the place for me, and so I moved. Yet I focus on the many great things that Greenville has and like the place quite a bit and enjoy my trips there, which are very frequent (every few weeks). gs3 could try doing that as well. Attitude is everything." I moved here for university and decided to make Greenville my home in the same way that you decided that it was better for your needs to leave and I think it's fantastic that you have as much love for the city as you do (I think we all do) but your response was going to cause him to come back at you defensively which causes other folks to jump in to the fray and we're off to the races. If you want to give him an attitude adjustment that's up to you but does it have to be part of the thread. If the two of you are friends, then pick up the phone or email him and tell him to suck it up...lol. With that being said I'm going to take my own advice and not clutter up the thread with our discussion, feel free to pm me and we can continue our discussion ;o)
  2. If this is how you behave with people you like, then I shudder to think what you're like with someone that you dislike. The threads are full of posts between not just the two of you but several of you snapping at each other like rabid dogs. The drawback to the internet is that the reader doesn't have the ability to discern either tone or intent and can only go by how your words come across. I am far from the only person that has mentioned this or said something about it, so it's not just a perception thing with me alone. As I mentioned in my previous post you both make valid points but it gets lost in the snippy responses. I'm not saying that you have to hold hands and skip through a field of daisies but you were the one who pointed out what Dallas's National didn't have, which while true doesn't have a thing to do with GSP and thus begins the derailment of the thread.
  3. Perhaps before this turns into yet another "mine is bigger and better than yours" contest between the two of you let's just nip this in the bud and spare us all the pain of unnecessary back and forth that is guaranteed to escalate into something unpleasant. I fly weekly out of GSP and while the state of the rental car situation doesn't effect me personally (I have status with both Hertz and National), I can see how it would be tedious for someone who's coming in from out of town and used to how Hertz is generally laid out. What I haven't seen you post GS3 is whether you actually spoke to one of the managers at Hertz to make them aware of the situation. It is indeed possible that they might have plans at some point to place a rental car board up at a future stage and perhaps not communicated it as part of the overall renovation, but if no one has bothered to ask then venting here isn't terribly efficient. I would also suggest that if you had to stand in line for that long that you definitely should have spoken with someone there about that because only the lovely people at Hertz can do anything about long lines which are tedious no matter which city you live in. Mallguy I can just about bet money at this point about your response to GS3 because the two of you are as predictable as the weather in Portland. Is it possible that you can respond to his points without reacting as though he called your mom a nasty name? We're all big boys and girls here, so let's act like it. I agree that constant negativity is a drag and you are correct that perhaps due to cost that certain things were not implemented but I refer you back to my earlier statement of actually asking someone at Hertz because unless you have this is all pointless speculation. K
  4. Oooohh....I wasn't aware of that! Thanks for the update.
  5. Unless they're planning to put a Chipotle on Haywood road there's not one there now. The last time I was in Chipotle, one of the guys that works there said that the new location would be Augusta rd, but it's possible that it could be at a different spot downtown. I mentioned that I had to drive from downtown to Woodruff road and how it would be nice if there was one that was closer and he said that they were putting a new location on Augusta rd.
  6. Given that I live a block from this site she's not the only one who would be pissed if they started blasting at 5am
  7. As one of "these people" who actually lives downtown, I sometimes read these threads and shake my head. To answer your question, yes when I moved into my condo almost 9 years ago I knew that I was going to have to schlep out to Woodruff or Haywood Rd. to go to a store like Walmart or Target, but that doesn't mean that I along with other residents in downtown don't appreciate convenience as much as the next person. My moving downtown had nothing to do with getting away from a big box store or suburbia for that matter and it's fairly simplistic to assume that and I don't think that I should have to move to Mauldin or Simpsonville, etc. to have access to stores like Target ,Best Buy, etc. Personally I'm not a fan of Walmart, but having a Target or a tasteful walmart (and the urban stores are fine) would be fantastic. The day that Publix and Staples opened in McBee Station was one of the happiest days of my life because it's super convenient. While I do still go to the Publix south pleasantburg store, it's generally for things that I can't find at the downtown store or to go to Fresh Market. When SAMS and Walmart were on Laurens rd. it wasn't such an huge task to run down to pick up items that I needed, but since they've moved to Woodruff rd., I can count on both hands the number of times that I've visited either one. Bless your heart, but it's more expensive to buy certain household items at stores like Publix and Bi-Lo. I've lived in downtown as I mentioned previously for almost 9 years and I have yet to buy underwear down here...lol and to be honest I'm not sure which store would carry it..lol. Just because I live downtown doesn't mean that I want to pay twice the amount for certain items or have less choice and availability. Just the two cents of a downtown resident.... Kris
  8. I'm surprised that this hasn't been posted yet, but GSP released the preliminary renderings for the upcoming terminal changes. Here's the link to the WYFF story. GSP Terminal Changes
  9. I didn't say that he lied. I said that he should have be more clear with his little tweets. When coupled with an announcement that included two other store openings, the natural assumption is that D&D was going to be a store opening as well and there was nothing in the tweet to suggest that it wasn't. It's great that he's excited about the announcements, but perhaps he needs to let the communications director handle the tweets from now on.
  10. Speaking for myself personally the only confusion that I had was the "limited version" part of his tweet which was unclear as to whether it referred to Dean & Deluca or if he was referring to Verizon. He tweeted that D&D were coming to greenville, perhaps he should have clarified his tweet. Given that it was picked up by a couple of news channels I would think that it's safe to say that it was unclear to quite a few people.
  11. Bad news I'm afraid. It would appear that our little Mayor tweeted prematurely...:sigh:. We are not getting a Dean & Deluca store, but instead Postcards from Paris downtown will be carrying their products. It's time to revoke his twitter access. Dean & Deluca Correction
  12. The Mayor tweeted today that Trader Joes was coming to Woodruff Rd., that Verizon and Dean & Deluca would be coming to downtown. He also threw in that it was be a limited version, but didn't specify if that referred to Dean & Deluca or Verizon. Here's the link to the article on WYFF. WYFF Article
  13. This seemed to be the most appropriate place for this news. German Automaker ZF Group to invest 350 million in Laurens and hire 900 employees by 2015. ZF currently has a suspension plant in Duncan that employs 150 people. The new plant will manufacture transmissions for various automakers. Here's the link to the state's article about the development. ZF Group investment ETA: Longer article posted on Wyff about investment Wyff ZF Group Announcement
  14. It appears that your wish is going to be granted. GSA sent out a breaking news email about how today's decision has likely killed the incentive bill. “I don’t guess we need it anymore since they are coming without it,” said state Rep. Dan Cooper, R-Piedmont, who chairs the House Ways and Means Committee.
  15. GSA just issued a breaking news bulletin that the low country is considering their own incentive package to attract a low cost airline carrier. They propose to add a 5% fee on rental cars to help subsidize the carrier and apparently they've been told by at least one carrier has said that as soon as an incentive package passes they will move forward with offering service to Charleston. The proposal is being presented to the county council on tomorrow. The upstate is also considering an incentive package, but have not yet named the funding source for the package that is being put together. Both packages would be completely separate from the states proposed legislation. Hopefully Greenville and Charleston can get something done in spite of Columbia's childish behavior. While I am no fan of Southwest (and I fly over a 100k miles a year with another carrier), it would serve Columbia right if Southwest were to come to Greenville and Charleston, despite all of their stalling tactics. Unfortunately there's not a link to the story that was emailed and I wasn't sure what the posting rule was for articles. If we're allowed to post the full content then I'll edit this posting with the full content.
  16. NuVox Inc. is has been sold to an Arkansas based corporation. GSA Article
  17. It didn't appear that anyone has posted this so I'll add it to the list of potential developments (oops if it's posted in another thread). An electric bus manufacturer is considering building a plant in greenville. They'll make the decision in Nov. and the plant is expected to employ 500 over the course of 3 years. http://www.greenvilleonline.com/article/20...e-for-new-plant
  18. I don't believe that this has been posted anywhere, but Kemet is planning to hire an additional 110 people. Kemet Federal Grant
  19. It's official.....Carbon Motors is heading to Indiana. They announced it at today's rally. On to other opportunities. http://www.gsabusiness.com/news/28767-carb...-south-carolina
  20. It doesn't appear that this has been posted so I'll add in the link to the article. Another automotive company has shortlisted the upstate for possible expansion. The company is looking to expand it's US operations (headquarters, R&D, manufacturing, etc.). http://www.gsabusiness.com/news/28385-anot...ny-eyes-upstate
  21. The article just states it's the pointe plaza on woodruff road and the only Pointe Development that I'm aware of is this one. Perhaps with the delay of the magnolia towncenter they decided to move to this location since it's already established. The quotes in the article are from Chris Arnold (public relations director for Chipotle) and he states that the demographics of that area are a good match for the chipotle customer profile. The article seems to hint that there might be other's added in the area as it would be atypical for them to put just one in a targeted market but that they wouldn't comment on future locations. Because I live in downtown it would have been great if we had one down here, but that's just my own personal wishes and wants...lol. I suppose I'll have to suck it up and plan at least 1 trip to woodruff road per week to get my fix ;o)
  22. Not sure if this has been posted as yet, so I apologize if it has but we're getting a Chipotle (Finally)! It should be opening at Pointe Plaza in early 2009 (per GSA business article). We will be the first one to get a Chipotle in SC and the article states that they aren't planning any additional one's at the moment, but they also go on to say that they don't discuss leasing opportunities while negotiations are underway. At any rate we're getting a Chipotle and I've been doing the Snoopy happy dance since I read the article. Yipee!!!
  23. I generally tend to lurk and strictly speaking this should probably be in the spartanburg section, but there was an interesting article on CNN Money about the latest steep decline in home prices. The 7.7% first quarter drop in single family home prices is the largest since 1982, but the bright spot in all of this was 3 markets that increased by double digit percentile points. Spartanburg was ranked 3rd with a 10.2% increase for a median home price of 130,300 (national median home price has dropped to 196,300. Still checking to see where Greenville falls on the list, but yeah for Spartanburg and good for us that we're holding steady! Kris http://money.cnn.com/2008/05/12/real_estat...dex.htm?cnn=yes
