  1. Hermes is moving to SOB, but you wish they would stay at Lenox, and then you say you hope SOB steals all the high end retail?
  2. Does anyone know what's going on at the old Jocks and Jills on Tenth Street? Seems to be a new paint job, interior work going on. Also, there's something being built next to Paris on Ponce, some kind of brick and concrete wall...
  3. I'm having a hard time placing the model - what's the tallish existing building?
  4. Story on the AJC website with vague plans for a casino at Underground...
  5. Still a great project. I imagine it'll require demolition of the yellow house closest to Blake's?
  6. Very cool townhome project going up at 10th and Piedmont - 975piedmont.com. Gotta love the underground parking!
  7. Does anyone know the name of the townhome development going up across from Ansley Mall on Monroe Drive?
  8. A luxury hotel in the BOA Plaza tower? Awesome! http://www.ajc.com/business/content/busine...age_tab_newstab
  9. Crescent Ave (where I live ) is already a neat mix of restaurants, apartments, and clubs. These new restaurants, along with the phase that will eventually be built across the street, are going to make it even more of a Midtown destination. Some things I've noticed in the past few days... A) The house next to South City Kitchen on Crescent is being worked on; there is a notice of issuance of building permit in the window - one to watch... B) There was some drilling on the Mandarin Oriental site, soil samples? C) Aqua is going to be home to some barber. Finally a tenant!
  10. Some exciting restaurant news for Midtown - the AJC reported that 4 eateries will be going on the Crescent Avenue frontage of 1010 Midtown. There's going to be a sushi place, an Irish pub, a sandwich shop, and an Italian eatery. The urbanization continues...http://www.ajc.com/business/content/printe...17/midtown.html
  11. 1st- great news for preservationists and Midtown as a whole! It was scary there for a minute... 2nd- like Atlanta needs more "conventional" buildings. Kind of like that "conventional" bridge we got to AS where we could have had a landmark
  12. That is awesome news! I've always hoped that the street level would be reconfigured into something more urban, especially on such a well-positioned building. Can't wait to see the plans!
  13. Does anyone think the intersection of 11th and Peachtree is going to be realigned? I thought I read a while back that that was in the developer's plans, but with the buildings going up it looks like that isn't going to happen.
  14. http://www.ajc.com/blogs/content/shared-bl...ngs_need_t.html - some depressing news for Midtown. The classically banal story of historic buildings being torn down for parking. I'm sometimes in favor of demolition if the replacement will be a good addition to the urban fabric, but the exact opposite is true in these cases. I'm especillay concerned about the Spring Street property. It's such a fine and whimisical historicist contrast to Tech Square.
  15. Yea: how very underwhelming. Guess there had to be some space reserved for suburban teenagers to buy more of those stupid jackets. Moving on...
  16. Has anyone heard recent retail news for the Midtown Mile? Viewpoint or 1010 release anything? (*crosses fingers for marc by marc jacobs)
  17. I agree-that area really needs a non-bus transit hookup. Light rail/trolley would probably be more favored by area residents who oppose a MARTA station there.
  18. I know it's a while from being completed, but has anyone seen renderings of the new 14th Street bridge, as in how it will look from the Connector? Is there any chance of it making up for the failure of 17th Street?
  19. Cool I never heard about the plans to turn the Flatiron Building into a boutel! Fairlie Poplar is my favorite part of downtown, so the more street activity the better. It has such a more intimate scale compared to Portman projects or the Park.
  20. Anything to rescue Courtland Street from the pedestrian hell it is will be greatly welcomed.
  21. Took a look at their website and found most of their work to be fairly bland and plastic with bad detailing. In other words, picture Atlantic Station.
  22. That would be a really cool concept, but the distance between Buckhead and Midtown is fairly long. Also, it would be harder to develop continuous blocks of retail frontage with all the churches and residential present on that stretch. There will definitely be pockets of mixed use though, such as The Aramore and The Brookwood developments.
  23. Does anyone know how the Loew's is going to front Juniper?
  24. I love the Auburn Avenue loop too. It'll be great to have rail transit options that spike off of Peachtree; I wish the city wasn't so linear sometimes in its emphasis on one street. A line down Ponce would make so many neighborhoods more accessible: Midtown, Va-Hi, Poncey-Highlands, L5P, etc...hopefully this will be the first phase of a much larger plan
  25. I'm very for it if the plan can actually become realized and isn't just another hollow promise to transform downtown. Not to be a pessimist, but this town is big on talking without a lot of doing.
