  1. You aren't building a dome for just one game. You are building it to go from the current ~12 ticketed events per year to something close to the 60 that Atlanta hosts in MBS.
  2. Not as bad as continuing to throw public funds at the current stadium. A dome can be used many more days a year and opens up the type of events you can host. Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta hosted 60 ticketed events its first year. BofA is lucky to host a dozen.
  3. The restaurant describes itself as a place “where foodies flock for authentic Mexican cuisine and cocktails.”
  4. Aside from paying Cintra, wouldn't they have to reengineer things for either of those options? If both lanes are free, won't they have to be upgraded to support tractor trailers and integrated into the current two lanes rather than as a separate road with places to get on/off? Same question for moving it to one free lane one toll lane - which seems like would be more expensive vs just making them both free lanes.
  5. Anyone else been following the “roofietop 210” story on reddit? https://reddit.app.link/qGbcWN2apN https://reddit.app.link/LC89WP5apN
  6. https://twitter.com/andrew_dunn/status/981935686612905984 D&D Uptown and Stonecrest are closing as well.
  7. http://www.charlotteobserver.com/living/food-drink/article207827659.html A spokesperson for Dean & Deluca's corporate office in Kansas City said the company had not expected the Phillips Place closing and that "it's becoming a legal action." Anyone know the scoop here? Seems like they would have to be pretty late/far behind on rent to have the doors locked.
  8. Wu's Cajun Seafood has closed...from the announcement it sounds like Bottle Cap Group will open something else in this spot. https://twitter.com/CharlotteFive/status/979777252106948609
  9. I think they were banned from r/Charlotte on reddit.
  10. Would they really have all of these tenants on board at this point when they haven't started with planning commission or moving dirt?
  11. Retrofitting HVAC into an open air stadium would be a nightmare. Would prob require a good deal of infrastructure work to just get enough electricity to the site to power it.
  12. Southpark Proposed Projects City releases potential Southpark area pedestrian improvements.
  13. Atlanta built the football stadium, Cobb County built the baseball stadium.
  14. There is a 2nd thread in the Coffee House that a lot of this discussion should be moved to.
  15. Would that even be possible on the current site? Seems like the footprint is already pretty close to the surrounding roads. And retrofitting HVAC into it would be a nightmare. Not to mention the infrastructure upgrades needed to power those systems.
  16. I wouldn't be surprised to see the new owners build a new training/practice facility outside of town - complete with a state of the art indoor practice field. We'll be playing indoors on Sunday, but our guys have been out practicing in freezing temps all week.
  17. Qualities that make a city a 'great place to live' are often different from those making it a 'great place to visit'. I think a dome is the right way to go IF taxpayer funds are used, but I don't have the misconception that we'll become repeat hosts to big events like the Super Bowl or Final Four the same way New Orleans is. I do think that a Charlotte dome could host plenty of regional events that would draw people and $$ into uptown Charlotte. Per wikipedia: "In its 25-year lifespan, the Georgia Dome hosted over 1,400 events attended by over 37 million people." A few thoughts on that: Only 5 of those 1400 events were Final Fours (3) or Super Bowls (2). Approximately 250 of them were Falcons games (2 preseason + 8 reg season per year...add a few more for the handful of playoff games they hosted). Of the other ~1100 events: some packed hotel rooms with out of town visitors (Peach Bowl, SEC Football Championship, SEC/ACC Basketball Tournaments) but most drew from people within a few hours drive of the building (concerts, Wrestlemania, evangelical events, high school football playoff finals). 1400 events over 25 years is an average of 56 events a year. The Panthers outdoor stadium is used less than 15 times a year. If the taxpayers pony up the money for this they need to let someone like Center City Partners have full access to rent the building out when it isn't being used for NFL games. Some would gripe about the current arrangement where Charlotte only gets 5? events per year in BofA Stadium- but there have been years where they have struggled to use all of those dates. Weather and wear and tear on the natural grass are big limiting factors on the types and dates of events that can be booked in an outdoor stadium.
  18. New Orleans is the exception and not the rule - They have unique culture, good weather, good food, and the French Quarter. Would the NFL Super Bowl committee really be clamoring to return to Charlotte to eat at Morton's and go to the Epicenter?
  19. IF taxpayer money is used then the city/county need to insist on a dome. We'd get 1 (and only 1 Super Bowl), Final Four every 10 years, ACC Basketball Tourney, more big concerts, upgrade our kickoff and bowl game status, wrestlemania, monster trucks, Elevation Church services, etc, etc. I'd also push for a change from Carolina to Charlotte Panthers - unless taxpayers across 'The Carolinas' are kicking in.
  20. Just name it the same as your existing wifi - and use the same password....everything will reconnect. Just did this when I moved and switched from TWC to ATT Fiber.
  21. Parking, additional premium seats, additional boxes, selling new PSLs and jacking up ticket prices, etc. Don't think they could 'oust' current PSL owners if they did a 'Hard Rock' type renovation. Would have to raise their seat prices to the point that they let the PSL's lapse....
  22. Agree that the stadium will be the biggest issue for a new owner coming in. They'll need new revenue sources to cover their high purchase price. There has been talk of the land off of morehead to use for parking (and perhaps a future stadium). I also think a Hard Rock style renovation would be a good idea and give 15-20 years of additional life to the current stadium.
  23. Isn't the Eastland Mall site about 80 acres? City could just give that to them if they'd bring 50,000 jobs averaging $100k/year.
  24. They had already decided to go w/ a distributor: Gargantuan projects like the one Sherrill is heading at Red Oak aren’t rare, either. Olde Mecklenburg owner John Marrino has plans for a $7 million brewing facility in Cornelius. Both breweries have defied the odds of the cap while others — like Sierra Nevada and Wicked Weed — have moved to distributors to pump out their product. http://www.nsjonline.com/article/2017/03/lawmakers-set-to-propose-bill-to-raise-craft-beer-distribution-cap-in-north-carolina?_h=0cca5c2b-de5b-47e9-93b4-b6c241716f24 And wouldn't WW still pay NC taxes? Does Sierra Nevada not pay taxes on their NC facility since they are owned by an out of state company?
  25. Driving in Asia is more akin to traveling in a school of fish....lanes, stop signs, etc are all optional. Also, there are very high rates on injury/death for the moped riders - not uncommon to see a family of 5 on a single moped.
