    SunRail

I'm surprised it hasn't been mentioned on here yet, but sunrail is beginning weekend service for special events. It will run 3/8 for the magic/orlando city games. Also Free 3/21-22 http://sunrail.com/documents/WPSAF.pdf
  2. It would be a long route regardless, if it has a pretty long stretch with no stops down university, that doesn't mean its a waste or a problem. If there's too many stops, few will use it anyways. If we could connect our higher education systems in the area via transit, I think it would do a lot for the community, a UCF/Research Park, Full Sail, Rollins College/Winter Park, UCF Downtown route could be really spark additional collaboration. I doubt its feasible though to build.
  3. That wouldn't have the space for it or configuration for it. I'd imagine its going in that new plaza, but Waterford Towers across from the Simon Town Center could really use it bad. They need some good tenants, such a beautiful plaza is really falling apart and sitting vacant for so long.
  4. 408 has few bridges to even get over/under it. 408 would need to be reconstructed to be elevated like i4, and considering how recently we had the improvements to 408, its very unlikely
  5. I put it on a map, here's a map of what appears to be owned by the school board, the remaining northwest block in this is owned by one owner, and if acquired would make the acreage match up with what is reported in the article.
  6. Yours looks the closest. If you expand your map up to Amelia, its all already owned by the School Board. Also looks like the School Board of Orange County has purchased everything on the north side of Federal St, and half way down the south side of Amelia. The remainder is one owner, that I'm sure they're trying to get (perhaps under contract, just not closed?) as that looks like it would make it the reported acreage. So it appears to be the area bounded by Parramore, Amelia, Livingston, and Westmoreland, excluding the southwest corner, south of Federal St for about 500 ft.

    SunRail

I really hope the maglev people take note of this, and build the connection between the 2 systems. It will really boost the ridership on both, and this really shows people are interesting in using SunRail for more then commuting.
  8. Eh, they actually did you a favor by not serving you... I was at the book of mormon the other day and the food there was among the worst of any venue food I've ever had. For the most part, the snacks are kept in a freezer, so they would need to unthaw after you order it. I also found the cup holders on the seats in the theater comical, once I found them... I didn't find them till the intersession and not one person seemed to use them. The seats also weren't very comfortable in the theatre. A lot of the choices seemed very poor to me, chosen purely for looks and not for functionality or comfort (much like the sinks in the bathroom, the seating/tables around the bar, etc). The actual show was absolutely top notch, the theater itself was very nice, and the environment in and around ig was absolutely great.
  9. I love the new ultra modern styles. Makes each one (chain) look much more different, and inside with the bright lights and chrome surfaces, its real easy to see how good of a job cleaning they're doing. They're mostly very open so we can see the kitchens too, so naughty behavior with the food is more likely to get noticed. Great things IMO.
  10. I guess they took $750k out of phase 2 funding for more phase 1 work? http://www.myfoxorlando.com/story/27410321/arts-center-to-receive-750k-from-orlando-for-punch-list
  11. The portion of Lake Nona south of 417 is meant to be walkable and fairly dense, Tavistock just wants to make sure they collect all the money as they donated a fair amount of money to the UCF COM and they want to make sure they profit off of all the related development. Their website is fairly good: http://learnlakenona.com/community/map/

    Orlando Transit

Thats a bit disappointing, didn't they already do the rail improvements necessary to support a commuter rail on the tracks? And have a plan to take some old trains from Tri-Rail or something?
  13. It could be good for marketing if we embrace it and get Google to rank Orlando's DPAC higher then the others! Then when someone is searching for the others, they'll end up in Orlando
  14. I honestly think those are some of the worst pictures I've seen of it... they make it look much smaller then it is and the angles do not show any of the buildings features very well. But it seems its just that, terrible pictures. Let me add I think the round building was a very good looking building and I wish the entire thing would have been saved... and I find I like the look of DPAC a lot less when the round building is in the picture... its overwhelming. I'm not sure why they were so into getting rid of that building.
  15. Regardless of what the state does, AAF seems interested in the route. And new tracks being built for AAF is for high speeds (the portion where the train is expected to go fastest in the Miami-Orlando route is after it turns east to the airport)
  16. Computer Science moved into Harris Engineering Center a few years ago. That building is almost entirely computer related majors. The Computer Science Building was renamed College of Sciences Building.
  17. I like the tile. Also remember you're viewing this from your seats, not high up and its likely the top of it will be blocked by other stuff (whether decorations, lighting, etc), so the effect will be dampened. The light strip of wood being on the outside of the dark strip actually bothers me more, I feel like it should have been reversed (which looks like how it is in the rendering).
  18. Are they building a real stadium? I think they're just putting 1600 seats in, not much of a stadium. Also is there really room for what they're building at Nona downtown?
  19. The current ones will be 37 years old by the time they are replaced. While I agree they are in good shape especially considering their age, availability of parts, maintenance costs, and efficiency improvements likely mean this project will eventually pay for itself. Not much is going towards the replacements, most is towards the new system needless to say.

    Amway Center

It also is an arena that is half the size, no? And I believe they doubled the price of the cheapest ticket from the last year at Amway Center? Its hardly fair to completely blame it on moving to UCF area. I don't like seeing sports with arenas half empty, I actually think with it being on campus with all the students there, if they didn't raise ticket prices, attendance wouldn't have dropped and the arena would have been fairly well packed. There's a big difference between moving to Disney's facility (which is terrible as no residents or any of their target market lives near it) and I think orlando city would have done fine (as a minor league team, the real pros need to be downtown) if they went to UCF instead of Disney for the season without so many problems.

    SunRail

I'd assume so, I don't think its happening anytime soon, but apparently Daytona and Cocoa are going out it for being "Orlando's beach" so you never know.

    SunRail

I don't know if this was mentioned on here before (briefly looked and couldn't find it, it was timed very close to other announcements) but Volousia is looking at expanding SunRail east to Daytona after DeLand. They funded a $500k study on it a few months ago. While I think its a bit unlikely it happens anytime soon, it could be a good route to add to make it more then just commuters if it does make it possible to get to the beach, and make it more feasible for the whole system to run on weekends/off peak.

    Orlando Transit

I believe when it got funding for those improvements making sure all of the track upgrades for a CRT were in it was done as well. This will be a significantly less expensive project then Sunrail, needing stations and trains only at this point. I think that makes it have a good chance of happening.
  24. Even though the said landscape architect typically works for the city? The DOT has a fear of tree roots growing under roads, so at this point, its near impossible to get a large tree in a ROW. It keeps getting worse.

    SunRail

I figured it'd be an easier site to make then the other one, since it'd just have to say 0 all the time
