  1. There was a huge announcement about site 1 of the old cc on wral news at 5:30. it had renderings and diagrams. the new buildings were 20 stories and 14 stories with a mix of offices, condos, retail, and an underground parking deck. Does anyone want to elaborate on this news if they can find the information online or offline?
  2. i'm a little confused. i thought Pei Cobb and Freed already designed the HoF. Does it need changes or what?
  3. Miesian Corners, how do you know about Cartier coming to SP, and do you know anything else about other stores?
  4. According to the Triangle Business Journal, Bombay Co. will be closing 35-40 stores as a result of a bad quarter. Bombay states that it is trying to improve the company's poor performance, and is trying to move mall stores out and bring in free standing structures outside of malls. it is uncertain whether the one at Southpark, or any other NC location will close, but if it does, will there be significant space created? is the store big in size?
  5. so, now that we know that Hermes is on board, can anyone provide a better insight as to what might be coming as well to SouthPark? when ca we expect a full announcement of hermes coming to the mall?
  6. gracias mis amigos. this is great for Charlotte, hopefully we will hear more about the new stores coming to SouthPark or even Uptown.
  7. what is WWD and where can i find the article
  8. still awaiting the list of new tenants coming to the NM wing. Hope the rumors of A/X, Chanel, Dior, Hermes, Gucci, and Fendi come true. Charlotte would really become a hotspot for retail in the South.
  9. what happened with the big announcement of tenants coming to the Neiman Marcus wing? I thought it was supposed to be early this week? is there predicted list of stores?
  10. Parisian or Facconable would be great. They are both the "middle-class" upscale forms of Saks (Parisian) and Nordstrom (facconable). Instead of their discount stores like OFF 5th or Nordstrom Rac, these would be at the same level as a Macy's. Parisian has a store at Phipps Plaza in Atlanta, so there is name recognition.
  11. Has anyone seen the new layout of Belk at Crabtree. It seems to have gone veru upscale. They now have St. John, Lacoste, Boss, Polo, Kate Spade, Oscar de La Renta, Sigrid Olsen, Cole Haan, Kenneth Cole, and not to mention many other high-fashion boutiques. Does anyone know why a good middle class department store would change itself into high fashion? It might just be that that department store is one of the busiest, just like the flagship at SouthPark Mall in Charlotte.
  12. Does anyone know what the article in the CBJ has this week on a new development on Central Avenue? I couldnt really find the article.
  13. when can we expect the announcements of these stores coming to charlotte. shouldn't it be any time soon? How far has the new wing come anyways?
  14. where did you hear this news of new stores like A/X coming to the mall? Can anyone confirm these announcements?
  15. does anyone know of what stores, other than fila and neiman marcus, are coming to the neiman marcus wing? does anyone have any recent pics of the construction, and when is it supposed to open, both the wing and the actual store(s)?
  16. Just because it isn't a hub doesn't mean it isn't busy. I read somewhere that in 2002 it had 11 million passengers go through. that number was to increase dramatically, and today i think RDU is in the top 50 busiest airports in the country. I wouldn't doubt because of RTP and other major business centers.
  17. Could a Hyatt go into the hotel. In my opinion, it Hyatt is looking for a place to put another hotel, Charlotte should be right on the radar, considering that Hyatt only has one location, and it is not uptown which is hot right now. I think either a Hyatt Regency, Crowne Plaza, or a Renaissance uptown hotel.
  18. this may have already been posted, but what is the layout of Sout Park Mall with the renovations? Does anyone have a map of the finished product?
  19. I like the idea, but what i dont like is all the negative feedback it has gotten from other people. Some are saying they dont like the hotel, some want a larger park, others want office buildings, etc. It really gets to me when, esp. with city leaders, we give our time and money to a firm to design a wonderful piece of property, saying we want it developed into to an urban atmosphere, then the firm brings out something wonderful, and they reject it saying stupid excuses like it's too high, too much, or not what we are looking for. Trust the firm please, they know what they are doing, they take many tests on the site and its surrounding areas just to see what fits. If you dont want something then get a degree in urban design, start your own firm, and then see if you get any clients.
  20. Does any one know what the building on East Stonewall and South McDowell corner bordering I-277? It looks like a hotel.
  21. Personally I find Atlanta's proposal overloaded. The location, the design, and also the whole aspect of Atlanta being the transportation mecca of the South. The location is in a part of Atlanta that is being stretched way too thin. I mean on one corner you have Coke, on the other you got the new Aquarium, on another you have Centennial Park, and not to mention CNN Center and Phillips Arena not far away, literally. How can one function around so many other places just like it. Design combines a green top, swooping curves, public plaza, cars, underground parking, and flashing lights all in one really small looking building. Yeah it is necessary, but I mean there has got to be some breathing room. Also somewhat with location, there are huge interchanges, the world's busiest airport, a major distribution center, rail centers, MARTA stations, and only a few hours from the busiest port in Georgia. So much dependence on Atlanta could actually backfire on its proposal don't you think. This was not to bash Atlanta, rather focus on points their city-leaders have to deal with as we speak. Trust me I know because my family is from there.
  22. I read on SSC that there is a possibilty that Armani, Gucci, Chanel, Dior, Hermes, and other high-end retailers could come to SouthPark. I don't know if this has been said before and I don't know if this is true. If it is, personally I would be disappointed bc that means less retail for Uptown.
  23. anyone know anything about the new terminal C at RDU? When does construction begin and any renderings?
  24. Thanks for the info StevenRocks and cantnot. I may have to pay another visit to Charlotte over the summer. As for stores, personally I would like to see more upscale stores at and around South Park, much like Lennox mall has in Buckhead. In my opinion, I think South Park needs a Polo store, Crate & Barrel, something along the lines of a Bloomingdales, an Orvis store, and maybe, just hoping for a Saks b/c it seems a little surprising that Charlotte does not have one yet, and the Triangle does.
  25. Supposedly there is a Hyatt hotel in South Park. Does anyone have any info on this? Also, what other hotels could come to South Park, or other stores that need to come to South Park?
