  1. Here is a website I found, where liberal friendly and liberal unfriendly cities are listed. Among the NC cities listed that are liberal are Asheville, Carrboro, Chapel Hill, Durham, and Greensboro. The only NC cities listed as unliberal are Fayetville (shocker) and Charlotte. I know that you can only take so much from a website like this, but I think it shows that a lot of people still view Charlotte as straight-laced. http://www.turnleft.com/geo.html
  2. Speaking of such, I do have to say I'm a bit...worried. What with Charlotte's economy so dependent on banking, will Charlotte be able to weather the eminent downturn in the economy? I feel like I'm the only one shaking in my boots over this
  3. No offense intended, but I don't like Charlotte being compared to Atlanta. Not that Atlanta is a bad city (I've never even been there), I just don't like it being compared constantly to other cities. I always see people making the reference to Atlanta, possibly because It's so big and so close to Charlotte. I see your point, though.
  4. What about the hotel portion? Does it look at all different than what we've seen so far? I was hoping for a little something more than what I've seen. Although, each new picture I've seen so far seems to contradict the last one. Mysterious, to say the least...(cue the x-files music)
  5. Any speculation as to what may take its place?
  6. I think the last thing the triangle needs now is another mall. I think they should work more on bettering the malls already there.
  7. Well that's just great. If you believe what the sensationalist news channels are saying, then nothing will ever be built again, anywhere. Hopefully the Charlotte condo market hasn't been overdiluted yet (refer to the "Who's going to buy all the condos" thread).
  8. Well if Charlotte isn't an important financial hub, then I'm not sure that it has any "claim to fame". I know when I think of Charlotte, the first thing that comes to mind is BofA and Wachovia. Then I think of its pretty downtown area, but I doubt that's something that will garner national attention. I know this may sound strange, but I've always wished Charlotte would try to invest in attracting videogames headquarters .
  9. Is the sign in that first picture seriously going to stay like that?
  10. It's official--this is my favorite downtown condo project yet.
  11. Do you think we can expect an announcement, or will it still be behind the scenes?
  12. This may sound shallow, but I might be most excited over this project because of its potential to bring more high-end retail to Charlotte.
  13. Generally speaking, does anybody know how the upscale business is doing in SP? I know of a few more names I would like to see come here. Of course, I'm dreaming, more or less, but we have to start somewhere...
  14. It looks as though the glass (if the floors are going to be that) may just run through the middle section of the floor, thereby allowing people to walk on the sides if they want to.
  15. The CN Tower in Toronto has glass floors over a thousand feet in the air.
  16. I believe a tall tower on south Tryon would be nice. It would create "dual" focal points of sorts, what with BoA on north Tryon surrounded by shorter buildings and Trump tower on south Tryon with its own respective shorter buildings. There would be an interesting balance, but this is all assuming that Trump does build here. Which leads me to my question: the last rumor I heard was that Trump had hard money down on the land. I was wondering if there's anything new to be said?
  17. It's been a while, so I was wondering if anybody had photos/news of progress on this site. I live 2 1/2 hours away
  18. I think this building hardly looks historic. It's an unnatural color, and there's a glass atrium at the front. Saving this building simply because it's old doesn't make much sense if it looks like it was built in the 80s.
  19. Does this mean an announcement could be anytime soon? Where do people find out about all of this stuff, anyway? I feel like I'm in the dark all the time...
  20. Wasn't it said that the towers would be completed around 2010-11 if announced? Perhaps they want to get in the market now so as to be ready for the next upcycle.
  21. Multiple sources? As in, who, might I ask? What type of troubles?
  22. I'm not a huge fan of the Catalyst design, actually. Not that it's horrible, it's just not particularly nice.
  23. Wouldn't the tower have to have a spire of some sort to be taller than around 900 feet?
  24. Has Trump ever been involved with a headquarters relocation before? And if he does so here, will there be issues as to the names of the actual towers?
