  1. Yeah i saw the pictures of the library earlier. It looks nice but why does it take 2 yrs to build a library with only 5 floors. The interior or exterior of the library must be something unique to take that long. The spaghetti juction will only take 3 yrs to complete 1 less than the library.
  2. A 50 million dollar project is set to begin this month along the already gridlocked I-20. This project is just one of many along I-20/520. Construction is going to be from warren rd to the canal in SC. I notice augusta may be on its way to have more hotels than any other mid size city. With all the construction on I-20 clearing trees, you can see all the previous hotels and new ones being built especially near riverwatch, washington, stevenscreek, & claussen.
  3. Augusta downtown is getting better and better. Cafe 209 on 10th street is expanding their company with 209 Music Lounge. They hope to turn a vacant lot on 8th st near the river into a downtown nightlife spot. Owners say they will have live music, great cocktails & food. It will open mid september
  4. The famous resturant in augusta HOT FOODS BY CALVIN, is under new management it will be now HOT FOODS. Remodeling is underway now, its understood the menu willl be the same. The location is still on lower broad st near 7th.
  5. The Augusta Commission also said yes to a plan that could extend the life of the Georgia Golf Hall of Fame's Botanical Gardens. The city is asking to lease the Gardens for one dollar for the next eight months from the Hall of Fame. Of course, keeping up the gardens will cost more. The hope is to keep the gardens going and open to the public through private funding. And it was yes to some improvement along the Augusta canal. The idea is to create a park from the 12th Street bridge to Hawk's Gulley along 15th and Broad Street. The city will spend a half million dollars on it. Another idea Commissioner Andy Cheek pitched wasn't as easy to sell. He wants to create a second canal along Ellis and 12th streets lined with shops. That floats to another meeting. it would be cool if augusta had waterways directly in downtown with boats going through the city while ppl walked around shopping & eating. Then we would have this, the canal, & savannah river, i know they would have to build a waterpark then because it would already be a mini one.If andy cheek gets this passed augusta would have came along way & could hopefully have more out of the box things when we think of augusta. Also has anybody heard about when the redevelopment of lower broad will start since the condos downtown will start the physical construction in january & land preparation has already started. Now we just need the kroc center to get off & running to help new construction in the harrisburg area.
  6. Has anybody heard about them adding stairs to get to & from the canal & them cleaning up parts of it for kayak, & white water rafting. Its progressive ideas like this that augusta has been yawning for. We need a water park since we have the savannah river, but rafting on the canal is a good start.
  7. good to see the project underway, i notice it was block off by gates so i assumed construction would start soon. Great addition its supposed to bring 700 new jobs. Now the shopping center off wheeler rd & the old davidson building need to start construction since they're block off by gates also.
  8. yeah augusta's Doubletree is very nice, thats good news for macon to get a hilton hotel it will help alot with ppl on business & tourist. Here is some pics of augusta's dont know if macon's will be similar. Some of the pillows even have the words sweet dreams stitch into them.
  9. Savannah river pkwy is four phases, the firt phase in south richmond county starts at state road 88 in hephzibah & goes to county road 438 in burke county, Phase two covers the next six miles of Highway 25 in Burke County. Phase three which includes to Waynesboro Bypass to County Road 118 in Burke County. Phase four of the Highway 25 project finishes at County Road 16 in Jenkins County. The I-20/520 interchange starts within the next few weeks the total cost is 192 million dollars to complete. They will widen lanes on I-20 from belair to wheeler rd even though its already 3 lanes on each side. I hope this means when you are coming to augusta it will be 4 or 5 lanes on each side at first then when you get more into the city btw 520 & riverwatch it will be 6 or 7 on each side.
  10. I think I-3 & I-14 will get build this is a article on the interstates. The oppostion is in north ga but it only has a few votes so it shouldnt matter. On May 17th, the U.S. Senate passed the Transportation Bill containing provisions to fund the feasibility study for the two interstates. Matt Sawhill, Senator Chambliss’s northeast Georgia regional representative, was quoted as saying that the project has "overwhelming statewide support." Sawhill pointed to "studies" that show that 80% of jobs are located within five miles of an interstate. Indeed, many do support the idea of bringing an interstate through the Deep South. Among those who support the project are U.S. House Representative Lynn Westmorland (R-GA) who sits on the House Transportation Committee, Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, (R- TN), former Majority Leader Trent Lott, (R-MS), Georgia State Development Commissioner Craig Lesser, Georgia Transportation Commissioner Harold Linnenkohl, Robert Morris representing the Georgia Ports Authority and Bill Hubbard, President of the Savannah Area Chamber of Commerce. Big industry also supports both interstate projects including Home Depot, Georgia Pacific, the Georgia Mining Association, the Knoxville based Goody’s Family Clothing Inc., and Sea Ray Boats Inc. The Georgia State Legislature made their feelings clear in the 2006 budget that includes $100,000 to establish the Interstate Highway Development Association for the purpose of promoting both interstate projects. This position is clearly motivated by the argument that both I-3 and I-14 would ease traffic problems in and around Atlanta by rerouting truck traffic through the countryside. Groups from north georgia are opposing the project, but backers of the interstate highway project are pushing hard with a target date for the President to sign legislation by August, and to begin construction within five years. Again according to State Congressman Jenkins, the Georgia delegation doesn’t really need the relatively few votes in north Georgia to get elected. They see themselves as serving the greater good of traffic-stressed Atlanta and regional development. Norwood’s Communications Director John Stone puts it this way, "Right now, there’s only a tiny group opposed," he said. "These folks have built retirement homes up there and want to lock themselves in as far as development." The interstates seem to have alot of bi-partisian support which is almost shell shocking seemingly how democrats & republicans in ga cant agree on anything. I know the small towns of waynesboro- burke county, lincolnton, sylvania- screven county, sandersville-jefferson county near augusta will definitely support this since it would put them on the map & make them truly become a surburb of augsuta. 520 will crush I-20 in terms of # of cars & traffic in the future with I-3, I-14, savannah river pkwy, & the fall line freeway running through it. The fall line freeway was 85% done by 2006 including all the route btw columbus & macon only portion left is from macon to sandersville to augusta. A article says the savannah river pkwy is substantially complete.

    Aiken County

It might be central ave i dont know whats its going to be called. Thats strange tho to take a well know augusta st. name & used it in N.Augusta. All they mention was that the road would be off of georgia ave & run through hammonds ferry to connect to the goverment center. But youre probably right it has to be 1 of the entrances u talk about since those entrances have to do with hammonds ferry & this road will run through the neighborhood to connect georgia ave to hammonds ferry & the goverment center downtown

    Aiken County

North Augusta is starting constrcution on a new road off georgia ave to run through hammonds ferry & connect to the new goverment complex. The road should be finished by june 08 & the goverment center by the end of 08 no mention of what the street will be called.
  13. Has alexander rd project to be widen almost done. The village of riverwatch & the new super kroger construction along with present washington, & riverwatch rd with their own sprawl will make this road a mess i hope it is atleast 3 lanes on each side. Now if they can just widen 520 deans bridge to gordon hwy, wrightsboro rd to grovetown, belair rd to jimmie dyess, & windsor spring to hephzibah before more growth happens in these areas making traffic worse.

i drove to columbia recently & i to saw the tractors, & construction gettin ready to take place at exit 5. I think it does has somethin to do with the palmetto parkway completion. Also construction is taking palce near the graniteville exit. Could we finally start to see major sprawl btw aiken & augusta
  16. I hear the greenbrier area in evans is trying to become its own. Almost like Hephzibah in richmond county is this true? I have rode through this area before it seemed ok but do that many ppl stay in this area. It must be growing fast or already it is a nice size because hephzibah has about 6 or 7,000 ppl. How about that evans could have its own surburb already
  17. Yesterday on I-20 i saw aflac on the univ of phoenix lower sign not the tall one in the sky. Is this new or old, its right before u get to the 520 exit. Does aflac already have a building here which would make this just a smaller office. Or is this their main building in augusta which could probably be 2-4 floors.
