  1. Other than the old GR and Holland stations, I can't picture where stations could work in Grandville, Jenison, Hudsonville or Zeeland. They each have spots where the track doubles up which I assume would be needed. And ironically, I was just at a meeting in Hudsonville where some feared Chicago Drive could turn into the next 28th Street. This rail project wasn't even mentioned.
  2. Oops. Didn't mean to copy/paste that last paragraph about "contact me". This isn't my deal, just something I stumbled across recently. In order to be effective as a commuter option, I think it would need additional bus routes to get you to your place of employment at the end of the train route. Plus maybe additional side tracks for the trains, new stations, maintenance facilities etc. I wonder what size grant they're looking at?
  3. Don't you mean future pseudo transit system? Dubbed the WMX Pilot Project, the West Michigan Express Project has been selected as one of the top 6 West Michigan Regional Prosperity Alliance grant projects for Region 4! As such it will be voted on by the public in a meeting on Wednesday, October10, 10am – Noon. The meeting takes place in the Pepsi Stadium Club, located at center field, Fifth Third Ball Park, 4500 W River Dr NE, Comstock Park, MI 49321 Hudsonville City Manager Patrick Waterman has initiated an effort to determine the potential for light rail transportation service in West Michigan utilizing the existing CSX rail line. The service would offer a low cost, convenient transit option to residents, commuters and visitors to supplement existing surface transportation in the region. The proposed service would at minimum connect the cities of Holland and Grand Rapids with possible stops in Zeeland, Hudsonville, Jenison/Georgetown, and Grandville. If you need assistance with transportation to the meeting contact me or the Michigan Association of Railroad Passengers.
  4. The 'burbs like beer too! This area in particular is close to Switch, the upcoming Amazon warehouse, new hotels and best of all, plenty of current and planned single-family homes. Bigger picture plans for the area are also very encouraging for biking. Plus only two other breweries within two miles. Can't say that about downtown.
  5. Well this thread has been a little too quiet. But now... https://www.grbj.com/articles/91369-regions-first-brewery-co-op-on-tap
  6. Hot off the presses from a couple minutes ago. It looks like the penthouse roof is in the works now if I count correctly.
  7. Yeah, my old high school was, "built on a swamp and they're closing it next year because it's sinking." So said the 14-year olds every year. This will probably turn into just one of many urban legends about the castle.
  8. That's the one. The app is listed in the store under Passport Parking or something similar, NOT Motu. They've been swapping out signs over the past few weeks.
  9. There is one on Monroe practically under the 196 bridge and one on Ottawa and Trowbridge. The location on Monroe was part of the land swap with MSU. Ottawa is up in the air as the owner died last year and his numerous auto shops in the area are understandably in flux. I'm curious about that link too.
  10. I've heard this too, but only through the social media grapevine, not my construction grapevine. I can easily see "settling" turning into "sinking" or "concrete cracking during curing" becoming "collapse is imminent". Anytime I drive by, they're still working away which leads me to believe it's minimal or at least under control. But that swampy site... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
  11. Wow. Somehow Grandville and Muskegon stay open. Until....?
  12. New apartment level panels in the glow of the morning sun.
  13. Say goodbye to one of our beloved tower cranes...
  14. "What? You're going to complain about my new building blocking your view? Here, let me cantilever some more concrete your way. See how you like it now."
  15. And let's solve that parking problem in back of the new hotel...
  16. Well I was "working from memory" at the time. No claim to a great memory obviously... I'm a little surprised they've started the finishes already with so much activity still to come. Room for error (dropping of the odd hammer or two) must be better than I expected.
  17. They just started placing the parking level brick panels.
  18. Nice spy photos! Working from memory, they have another five or six floors to pour yet at roughly one per week.
  19. You can add Two Guys Brewing into the mix now. Their soft opening was today at Byron Center and Porter in Wyoming. Expect real hours to be announced soon.
  20. DeHops Brewing Company & Cafe just opened up in Standale. It's just south of Lake Michigan Drive a bit east of Wilson. https://dehops.com/ And Michigan Moonshine Distillery will be opening in Grandville in the new development at Wilson and Chicago Drive. They were recently denied opening in Jenison despite previous verbal approval. They get a brand new building out of the mess, so good for them. Facebook announcement
  21. I wonder how this did during the flooding? Some of downtown Grandville and most of the area along 196 were swamped. "Now with bigger moat!"
  22. Quite the view from these guys... http://belknapbluffs.com/
  23. I'm sure the sloppy bits at the bottom of the walls are just unfinished awaiting baseboards. I doubt the reporter is correct in calling them "hard-wood" floors though. 10' ceilings is pretty impressive.
