  1. I was looking recently myself. Trying to put together gifts for out-of-town nieces and nephews. Sometimes I've gone to the store at the airport, but I wanted better than that. And I wanted Greenville! On a whim, I went in to City Hall, to the desk of the Visitor's Bureau. They sell Greenville merchandise! There is a glass case right in the lobby that shows the items. I got very nice coffee mugs for $5 each. They also had shirts, hats, etc. Unfortunately they said that they may be discontinuing the merchandise. Bummer. I think it's a great idea that maybe just needs a little more publicity!
  2. I've been in several Trader Joe's back north, and the standard CVS/Walgreens is a bit smaller. However, the BiLo on North Main would be about the right size.
  3. Possible. But at around noon on a Friday, all of the patio chairs and tables were stacked up in a corner out front. I might be clueless to the business... do they do a lunch business? If not, it makes perfect sense. But if they do, if nothing else, it didn't look open.
  4. Was walking along Main Street today and noticed the old Raglans Market space next to Mast. Looks like a new entrance going on it. An there was a sign up announcing the new occupant. "Meatheads Sports Bar & Grill". Well, doesn't sound like someplace I'm going to frequent, but at least there's something going in. Speaking of bars & grills, is City Tavern closed? It didn't look real open today, and there was no sign out front. Never been in there either, but we joke about how my mother-in-law went there for lunch when she was in town because she thought could eat outside and have a veggie sandwich. Hmmm..... :-)
  5. Back in Alexandria, VA, there were several, and they did a huge business. Even sold specialty birthday cakes for dogs. Yep, even your dog can have it's own birthday cake! Canine-healthy of course! With the new dog parks in the area, it sounds like there is at least the beginnings of a vibrant dog community here. The store might succeed.
  6. Driving down Main Street today, I noticed some guys checking out a building. Pardon me for not knowing the exact address. It's the greenish building on the same side of the street as Mast. About a block south. Just northing of that pink building with the spa/fitness center. One of the closed stores was a grocer, according to its sign. Looks like all of the spaces are vacant. Anyway, there were two guys that appeared to be inspecting the building. Architectural plans in hand. It looks like maybe they'll be starting some work on the space, and hopfully a great new shop/restaurant moving in!
  7. We were downtown this weekend, and decided to visit Carolina Chocolates. We were quite disappointed. Our first visit was at about 5:05 p.m. on Saturday, February 17th. We wanted to pick up some special treats for my parents who were watching our boys for our anniversary. However, the lights were off and the door was locked. We looked for a sign with their hours, but there was none. I would think that 5:05 p.m. on a Saturday evening would be a pretty good time for a chocolate shop. But alas, they were closed. So this Sunday morning (February 18th) we walked out of the Hyatt at 9:15 a.m. to go get coffee. We noticed that the lights were on at Carolina Chocolates. We figured we'd stop by on our way back. We were at their door at about 9:40 a.m. Now I must say, I think that 9:40 a.m. on a Sunday would not be a real good time for sales at a chocolate shop, but hey, we were still looking for those yummy treats to take home! The lights were on, and the door was unlocked. We went inside. We looked around for about 5-10 minutes, but no one ever came out from the back. (The door has a bell that rings when you walk in, so it's not like we snuck in.) You could hear someone back there, but they never came out. We left without buying any yummy treats. I don't know what's up with the shop. Closed on Saturday at 5 pm but "open" on Sunday at 9:30 am? Seems they've got their sales market all backwards. And then being open but no one to help you? It's a shame. We could have easily become patrons of this store. But after our experience, we will certainly go elsewhere for more reliable hours and service. And at least hours posted on the door!
