  1. Boardwalk Billy's may be a reasonable solution...someone with deep pockets that can last longer than a few months maybe. This spot has been a revolving door since City Tavern left.
  2. It looks like the old building on this corner has been completely demo'd now. I can't wait for this new CFD building to start rising out of the ashes. It sure is a great corner to have a building. I am hoping for something to rival the CFD building off Steel Creek on Lake Wylie, something that can really spur some new development on this corner. Many people on this thread have mentioned it, but this little five points area has a lot of potential.
  3. I hope so, as I'm a big fan of the area and the original Ed's. I just don't see much with the new Ed's so far, casual is definitely the way to go over there. Its just an odd layout, more of a house feeling obviously since thats all it is, and the outside area, which is what makes PStone so great this time of year, is just a couple picnic tables surrounded by train ties across a parking lot from the actual Bar. I wish they could expand in a way to open it up a little more and make the outside more inviting. But if they are crowded and can keep the people coming, they will make enough money to make any changes they want.
  4. Butter is now open and all I can say is WOW. I got to tour it during the day while it was empty and am thoroughly impressed with all of the nice touches they added into. It honestly feels like you are walking into a club in vegas or Miami when you walk in, very cool. Grand opening is next weekend. But they have had their soft opening for the last two weekends and this weekend and they have been turning people away by the hundreds.
  5. For any other lighting-energy Geeks like me, those new lights are 130W LED towers, a very cool product. Not sure how vandal resistant they are, but I'm sure that will be tested with a few drunken passers by.
  6. Ask and you shall receive, I just noticed the other day that they have since installed about a half dozen or more of these light poles just like the big one at the main entrance except about 6ft high. So cool, I hope they are LED or Solar or somethng energy efficient, but they run all the way down in the median till you get to the 277 overpass. It looks really great. Now if they could just get the contractor who installed them to get em all straight, that would be a nice touch. At night the ones that aren't level really show up.
  7. Anyone seen the new Light Pole at the entrance to the music factory off of Graham? It is awesome, I'm not sure what it is or supposed to be, but since installing it a few weeks ago, I saw it on one color for a few days, now it morphs into a new color every 15 seconds or so. Its awesome and it looks like maybe these are going up all the way into the factory area. That would be killer. A great little addition to the entrance and all, plus mighty helpful for the safety factor as I know lots of people who have walked to shows there from uptown.
  8. As you mention the sound wall in Tampa, the sound wall is a part of the plan at NCMF too, if not as big as that. If you are driving by and looking at the stage from the highway, you should also see the wall they have built to help with this issue that borders the edge of the venue. IMO the proximity to the highway is actually a good thing assuming the sound isn't an issue, when I drive by now I see straight into the stage of the Boutique and if I see all of those people and the lights I will most certainly want to know what show is going on and what I am missing. But I'm just always looking for a good show.
  9. This place is rounding into form. Love the gov't Mule show, hoping more of that type of bands are going to frequent this venue. I think now that the details are coming out, we are seeing the potential for success.
  10. What happened to the condos? Weren't there supposed to be a couple condo towers in the Uptown Village development? Unless they are part of the Music factory I don't see anything like that. I hope for the best for this whole concept, it could be good.
  11. Seabord St. ext is open! I drove on it today...took it by the Music factory, love the new artwork at the entrance saying music factory. Very original. Can't wait for more more work to be done, it does still seem kind of 'under construction' and dead. The Garden and gun club looks nice enough, but there isn't much else happening. It is nice to have the street open finally. Its a good shortcut to Greenville too, no more waiting at the light at Statesville and Graham
  12. Seaboard Extension is just about complete. The road is paved and connected all the way to Graham and the curbs and medians are complete going toward the music factory. On Graham they are completing widening the road to allow for the turn lane on to Seaborad Extension. Shouldn't be long now I hope until its open for business.
  13. They are slowly destroying the old buildings there at Double Oaks. Each week I drive by a few more are down to just the foundation. Good sign, but it needs to go faster to prevent the crime problems that are popping up from empty vacant building sitting in this area.
  14. LOL Agreed, UP needs to get someone at Myrtle on the job!
  15. Is this the building that looks like a beach front condo? Not positive the name of that one, but know courtside is near it. That one really looks strange in downtown, with no water in sight.
  16. I have heard that Harpers is trying to open up in the old Mellow mushroom/Moon Dogs site. Would be an odd choice in NoDa IMO.
  17. From what I can tell the only reason the Black Crows are playing Neighborhood is because one of the band members is fully involved with the creation of NODA studios. It's great for the area, and should be a killer show... but otherwise they would be in one of the big venues so they get more money and so on. As in just a year or two ago they played Verizon.
  18. Is it just me or does Seigle Pt going up there on 12th look really cheap, I'm no expert and this is just opinion, but they just look like a bunch of identical big boxes as they are under construction. While anything is better than what was there previously, I am not so impressed with that as one of the first things you see as you head into Optimist Park.
  19. NoDa was great last night...and has been all weekend. Moe Down
  20. Ok I am clear now, thanks...that's great Saussy is involved in this area again. It will be good to have it a little different from their typical style, being so close to the more typical Park at Oaklawn homes they built, although I like the 'Edward Scissorhands' look of the single family homes over there, funky colors. I just got an invite to the Launch event for the North End for Thursday Mar 6th. They are calling it 'Charlotte's Newest Ring Neighborhood'. Interesting
  21. Is Saussy Burbank building parts of the Northend Sq.? IMO That would be great, I like their style, I know not everyone does. I know they built the Park at Oaklawn single family homes that are already completed. The name I heard of involved with NorthEnd was Drakeford, not sure though. But I agree this offers a great option for people to live very close to downtown and not pay the prices of downtown.
  22. With the North End square Development and the Music Factory and Uptown Village developments happening, this corridor is well on its way to something good. I think the real arrival of the area will be if the Rite-aid and buildings across Statesville are redeveloped as was stated is in the works earlier in this thread. It would really open up the area, where currently that right side of Statesville as you go away from Graham is pretty dead and less than attractive(even with all the fledgeling trees the city planted a few years back). As for foot traffic, there is plenty, but its less than ideal IMO, as the homeless and women's shelters are down Statesville. Around 4-5:30pm everyday its a constant flow of the homeless from 12th street, the 277 bridge and everywhere else in town to get to the shelters. And in the mornings it is the opposite way but similar flow.
  23. I had heard the Eckerd Plant was being pursued, and figured the Rite-Aid deal changed things. That is great news on the other nearby parcels. Some Retail in this area sounds good. Thanks for the update.
  24. Some movement on the NorthEnd Square site...They have staked out areas all over the ground. I hope this means good things to come.
  25. My feelings are I agree, I think it will be a solid project, I hope it moves forward sooner than later. To boot, I hope it somehow leads to the removal, improvement or demolition of the apartment complex right behind it.
