  1. And.. We will hear very soon about a full service 400+ hotel that is in the works.
  2. Word on the street is financing is in place. Please remember these are unfounded rumors but the sources are credible. Sounds kinda covert doesn't it!
  3. anything bigger would have generated more publicity before the event......
  4. 3 million for making all of the downtown circulators zero-emission busses
  5. From an email I recieved this morning: Dear Transit Supporter: You are invited to a 10 a.m. news conference on Friday, Sept. 14 at the Riverfront train station located at First and Broadway regarding a major Federal Transit Administration announcement. FTA Administrator Peter Rogoff will be in Nashville to make the announcement. Mayor Dean, MTA Board Chair O'Connell and TDOT Assistant Commissioner Toks Omishakin also are planning to participate. We do hope you will be able to attend this "good news" event. (HINT: It is not about our BRT project, but is great news for transit in our community.)
  6. i dont think the building is for sale but rather for lease. It is owned by C. B. Ragland and not Tony. I think they will retain that and the other property they own in the immediate area.
  7. i have to say that I disagree with making the live music venue gritty. Nashville is a complete music scene and not just honky tonk country. Lower Broadway is plenty to do justice to the honky tonkers and expanding it is not the way to go.
  8. Everyone agrees to that; but when we come to define truth, dissension starts. - Samuel E. Morison
  9. Debate is a method of interactive and representational argument. Debate is a broader form of argument than deductive reasoning, which only examines whether a conclusion is a consequence of premisses, and factual argument, which only examines what is or isn't the case, or rhetoric which is a technique of persuasion. Though logical consistency, factual accuracy and some degree of emotional appeal to the audience are important elements of the art of persuasion, in debating, one side often prevails over the other side by presenting a superior "context" and/or framework of the issue, which is far more subtle and strategic. Its ok if we do it.......
  10. Let's call a spade a spade here... First connect the dots Holleman ........Dean = payback. Second, MTA has been having reviews, discussions, etc. for months now. The urgency is in trying to get Federal funding so the cost to Metro is reduced drastically. The funds are there and someone is going to get them not unlike the Federal Courthouse. The continuation of the "me" society lives on. The question is will we ever get to the "us" society.
  11. Agreed. I checked into it about a year ago for another project and was told the asking price was $675,000. It keeps going up!
  12. There is a corner building at 3rd and Demonbreun which he has not obtained yet on the proposed SOBRO site. It will cost him a lot. Last word was close to $800k or more. Also word is that he and the coin shop do not see eye to eye. Just sayin, could be a mute point but there have been plenty of folks interested in partnering at the hotel site and nothing has happened so far. That is the most desirable of the two lots for development given the current scenarios in SOBRO.
  13. they still need to acquire a piece of property on both sites they are looking to develop. That small detail has not been accomplished and there are those who say it may not.
  14. "I also agree that the EWBRT will not remove cars from the route .... this was my point with P2 yesterday. His 40:1 ratio will not be close to reality; auto traffic will not be reduced. So if we have the situation of less lanes and and the same or more traffic,we can all agree, the congestion on Broadway/West End/Harding will increase...all for $175,000,000... " We can't all agree because we don't know the answer. What we do know is how many people live on the corridor (25,000), how many jobs are on the corridor (170,000) and we know that the reduction could be significant. I know I pretty much drive one way or the other on the route almost every day and I could park my car if built. I don't think I am alone.
  15. I am at the front of the line and I have asked questions. Whoever told you that there was no give and take did you an injustice. I don't agree with some of the current plans, routes, etc. but I am a progressive and I do believe that better public transport is a right just like public education, protective services, etc.. Things are not always perfect but not trying to change is not an option for me. I respect your opinion but we may not agree.
  16. lets say we put it on Charlotte. Where is the user riding to? Where are most of the office buildings and other job sites in the area? What is the best way for me to get to St. Thomas or Vandy? If I am a resident of downtown (and there are now thousands who live inside of Charlotte over to the Gulch) how can I ride to either east nashville or West End for dinner, etc. without using my car. It just seems to me that the current route is more centered to both sides of the populous in the area than Charlotte. You may have statistics that show otherwise. And we should not forget that there is still bus service in these other areas. I think the major point is to alleviate some of the car congestion on this artery. It is the most used artery in the County.
  17. i agree that Charlotte has potential but not sure how your argument stacks up against West End/ Broadway in terms of potentital riders. You have virtually all the same hospitals, colleges (Vanderbilt is closer to WE and has many more employees) and on the tourism side the needs are far stronger on the current route. Car gridlock is also worse and that is probably one of the main goals of the project to alleviate that issue. Hopefully it moves forward, works and there is a need for more lines.
  18. All I can say is buyer beware. If you set yourself up for this then you cant be mad about it. There are plenty of places available with no increases if that is the goal...
  19. Did anyone attend any of the public meetings and what were your thoughts?
  20. John, if she had a lease then this is against the law and she has remedies.
  21. Ed Cole is going to speak at the next URA business meeting, August 20th at 6:30. Location is the Nashville Downtown Partnership. 250 4 th Ave. or the corner of 4th and Commerce.
  22. It's more about full service vs. limited service hotels. We still need more full service.
