    The VUE

Maybe that SuperChannel building up in Altamonte will be finished first?
  2. The short-lived Market Street cafe has a sign in the window that says "coming soon-Spice" - which just so happens to have a new location on Park Ave in Winter park. It is a modern steakhouse and the one in WP looked pretty good (though expensive).

    The Plaza

I walked by this afternoon and workers were unloading 3 or 4 flatbed trucks holding all the stadium seats for the theater. They were large white Styrofoam boxes that said "Stadium Seating" on them - so I could be wrong, but duh.

    The Plaza

    I heard around july 4th.
  5. Ever try Pei Wei over on 50 by the Target? It is owned by PF Chang's but is a much cheaper version and I think their food is actually quite good. For about 7 bucks you can get a decent meal that to me, is very tasty. Try the Kung Pao w/ chicken & brown rice.
  6. Quick question about brunches -- besides the very expensive (though really good) Jazz Buffet at the Bohemian hotel, what would you say is the best brunch downtown? How is the one at HUE (and is it really expensive)? Are there any other decent buffets?
  7. "Orlando once leaned heavily on Disney World and its service-sector spinoffs to prop up its economy, but these days it's pulling in life sciences, digital media, and health-care companies with affordable (or subsidized) land and tax breaks. Electronic Arts; Hollywood animation firm House of Moves; and Burnham Institute, a top-rated cancer research center, are all expanding and adding jobs here. Despite the housing slump, such diversification will help Orlando crank out 72,600 new jobs this year and next." http://money.cnn.com/galleries/2007/biz2/0...biz2/index.html
  8. Well, there is WaTiki in the wall street complex. It isn't that great of food and really is a big party/bar on weekend nights. But for a decent lunch it's ok.
  9. Anyone been to District 5 (or whatever it is called) in the City Place Holiday inn renovation? On another note, Graze (in the Sanctuary) opened about a week ago and is doing pretty well. I went there Sunday for dinner and it was actually very good! I like the concept of 2 sized main plates and the huge sharing platters. The bartender is TOP NOTCH and makes all of her mixers from real fruit and ingredients. Their signature drink (which is basically a gin mohito martini) was so damn delish! They also have a nice prefix menu from 4 - 6pm.
  10. HUE (expensive) would be good or Dexter's (moderate). Both of them you can eat at the bar and there are lots of people to chat up.
  11. There was some talk of letting things go until 4am a few years ago, but only downtown. I think that died b/c bars who were just outside this proposed zone cried foul stating it would cause them to lose business.
  12. Let me ask you this - do any of the proposals excite you? Are we talking "epic" (to orlando, at least)?
  13. Help me understand the boundaries of what Kuhn just bought? Does this include the buildings that all the bars are in, too? (latitudes, etc)??? I've never understood "what is church street station" and what's not.
  14. Was it busy? Both times I went to the steakhouse and the lounge it was scary-empty. WHEN are we going to get a good seafood place downtown (like FishBones!?)
  15. I gotta say that the location of Eola South is top notch. Also not having lots of neighbors is pretty cool. I never hear my neighbors (the walls are very thick between units). BUT - that all being said, I'm from NYC and love living up high and having a view. Don't know why, but I really enjoy coming home from work and hanging out on the balcony way up there with a drink (sorry Sunshine ) and read a book. It's also much quieter up there. AND I like to have amenities. I bought into Eola South as a temporary way to get downtown while I waited for 55w to get built. After the price increase I pulled outta 55w and am still here in Eola South. I pay pretty high HOA fees for not having any amenities (almost $400/mo) It's a very cool building, but I love to swim and workout and I can't do either of those here. Also, there is no doorman (something I am so used to and didn't realize I'd miss that much) and that kind of sucks when something happens. Like the fire alarm goes off - or some drunk idiot parks in such a way (illegally I may add) so you can't get in to the garage.... etc.

LOL - yeah it's been a LOOOONG week. That makes more sense
  17. Yep. Why? Wanna come over for a drink? LOL
  18. Horton Plaza does look cheesy from that view but it is thriving and isn't cheesy at all. That area was total crap before they built it I have been told. I agree that the buildings should be kept - just added onto / expanded.

    55 West

Totally (they have these in NYC). Yeah it can be annoying (they better put dual pane or even TRIPLE pane windows in those units) but it's all about space / location. I'm on the fence about living that close to the bus station. I would like it because the bus station would be RIGHT THERE but I kinda dislike it because the people that tend to hang out at the bus station would also be RIGHT THERE. I know, that's a terrible thing to say... But I ride the bus every now and again and let's just say there are some very unsavory folks that hang out at the central station. Not nearly as bad as, say, the Port Authority in NYC (that place sucks - bad!) but still kinda sketchy...
  20. Please do keep us in the loop. I am exceptionally interested in purchasing a condo here. I lived in a Condo on top of a hotel in Daytona Beach Shores for a short while and it was great (getting to use the "hotel features" for little or NO extra HOA fees). Well it was great until I realized I was in Daytona Beach Shores!
  21. Are you talking about Horton Plaza in San Diego? I went to San Diego (my first time - what a great city!) two weeks ago and stayed at the Westin right there at Horton Plaza. The whole time I was there I kept thinking "Why can't Orlando have one of these?" Church St. station would be a PERFECT place for something like this. It doesn't have to be as big as Horton Plaza - just follow that Open Air mall concept. We have a LOT of retail all around (Millenia / Fl. Mall / Fashion Sq. / E. Colonial / SoDo (soon to come) / Winter Park Village ... You get the point. I think a combo mall / entertainment complex (kind of like a large Beach Place in Ft. Lauderdale mixed with Horton Plaza Retail) would be perfect. It would have to have a lot of specialty retail (due to all the chain stores that are close by - market saturation). I'm thinking galleries, cool bars, restaurants, etc... HORTON PLAZA BEACH PLACE

I sure am going to miss those 'purty' old christmas lights they had on them.
  23. That goes for BOTH sides of the fence! That's my favorite grocery store, hands down.
  24. Are you serious? New construction, only... Or so I assume? What did it USED to be?

That exposed concrete look is really big in all the new midtown Atlanta condos. I looked at 4 new buildings and they all looked the same. Personally, I don't care for it but you can certainly work with it and make it look great. Originally Eola South (where I live) was going to do that. They ended up not doing it but leaving some of the concrete columns exposed. I went and painted them a very dark brown. It looks great!
