  1. CItizens of Richmond - PLEASE write to your councilpersons demanding more funding be used for street repair. I have traveled to many great cities. And cities our size in particular seem to be investing a great deal in roads and sidewalks. Why can't Richmond? ANd I don't mean the patchwork jobs that I have been seeing ever so often. The ride through Shocoe Bottom and especially down Hull Street is gross. I will say though, the mixture of people has been outstanding. The city has become much more diverse.
  2. I like the design. I hope they come to be soon. The increased hotels and infill will be great for that area. I recently visited RIchmond from my new home in NC and was SO impressed by all that was happening in Shockoe Bottom. I am beginning to like the idea of shifting the high concentration of night clubs to other areas of the city, especially since this area has seem to be largely residential.
  3. Yes, most malls across the country are not the shopping meccas that they once were. Not only because of the cash-strapped Americans, but because those Americans ave created a new sense of compassion for the smaller, village-like city shopping districts (and lifestyle centers). And in terms of visiting downtown Asheville...are you kidding? THat is one of North Carolina's most delightful cities! I bring friends from VA, Chicago, Scotland, and Germany to visit every time they visit me in Greensboro. And I have no Asheville-affiliation. I just think it is one of America's most unique places to go.
  4. Yes. They've announced those headlines for just over a decade now.
  5. I am definitely from Richmond. I live in NC and am away more than I'd like to be. Its always nice to visit. The place has grown so much... She flew from Glasgow to Newark and from Newark to Richmond. The New Yorkers drove down from Rochester. THanks. Qdoba was a drive away. It is on Broad by VCU.
  6. I had several friends in town this weekend, as was I, and we had a great time! Between the three, we were from NC, NY, and Britain, and all, including myself were very impressed by the city. It is at drop-jaw status! We dined at RIver City Diner for breakfast. Great atmosphere and most booths were full. The waitress was awesome and the portions were unbelievable! After a stroll around the city, we snacked at The Deli (rail depot building) by the canal. Nice place. Great big city feel. We had lunch at Highwater. Food and service were great. Prices were reasonable. It was lunchtime on a Friday and we were a bit surprised that there were such few patrons. QDoba on Broad Street was dinner before the Richmond Renegades hockey game. The place was slammed and the food was delicious! Good job Richmond. Oh, Airport Terminal Applebees: Food was OK, service was HORRID.
  7. I had a friend fly over from Britain, and she chose RIC because it was the cheapest flight around (I live in The Triad, NC). I had an opportunity to see the "New 'Port", and I loved it, as did she. It was very breath-taking. We dined at Applebees. Service was awful and slow. But it was nice to see my friend so we didn't care too much. It was my first time in Richmond in a while so I will give my spill in other threads... The airport is awesome.
  8. I love Charlotte's tranfer station. http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=htt...7US248%26sa%3DN
  9. Totally Agree!!! I've expressed this to the board before, but this is an issue! Half of our trip around the city, my guests and I were just as concerned with bumps and holes as we were interested in the sights around us.
  10. Awesome photos Cadeho. I am definitely digging the Suburban "Overlook" shot. From where is it taken? The city is truly taking shape. I was able to make it to Richmond for a day trip on Sunday. I was very impressed, as were my guests who had made it their first trip to Richmond. Each time I take someone new, they seem to fall in love with the place and it's grit. It truly makes me appreciate coming up in such a beautifully gritty city. They are all Carolinians, and thus they're used to swamped suburbua. They all seem to think that, besides New York, everywhere in America is like this. So they were surprised at our seemingly endless rows of houses/businesses etc., I say all of this to say: We have a LOT to be proud of. WooHOO Richmond! P.S. BOoHoO to those very unimpressive roads. This was everyone's gripe.
  11. Hmmm....this could be worthy of it's own thread... ...could get very interesting.
