  1. Driving around the other day I was surprised to see a huge Home Depot going up 2 or 3 blocks from the New Orleans Arena on the other side of the Pontchatrain Expressway. With the likes of this store and others close to downtown like the Super Wal-Mart on Tchoupitoulas, living in a condo in the CBD seems more attractive. No having to go to the suburbs to shop.
  2. Border's Bookstore is going to renovate an historic funeral home on St. Charles Ave. I know this irks the small book stores but it will be great for St. Charles Avenue to transform this shuttered prominent building into a real eye catcher right along the streetcar line.
  3. I wonder if this is referring to the Royal Cosmopolitan. That project should get started pretty soon in the 100 block of Royal Street.
  4. Here's the Macy's announcement. Good news for Metairie and Kenner.
  5. Two or three 30 story towers. What's this? I'm hoping 2008 will be the year to see some cranes on the skyline for some of these many high-rise proposals we've been reading about for the last 2-3 years.
  6. That must be it. Here's a map help locate the site.
  7. I haven't seen anything in the papers about this ambitious project for Bywater. I'm curious to know where, exactly, this developement will be.
  8. Jefferson Parish plans makeover of Fat City. It sure needs it.
  9. It looks like the Nolatown project may be moving forward. Their original plans were very impressive with several towers proposed.
  10. Here's the Plaza Tower cropping up again on Bidclerk. They're going to have to start this project sooner or later. It's been languishing for a long time.
  11. Proposed 210 million, 340' tall, 242 room new hotel at the base of Canal Street across from Harrah's. I think there was talk of another hotel (maybe the same one) on this site several months ago.
  12. New Orleans passes 1 billionin building permits. No slowdown in sight.
  13. First rendering of 26 story, 122 unit Royal Cosmopolitan which may break ground within 60 days. It should be a nice addition to the French Quarter side of Canal St.
  14. 25$ million 209 unit apartment complex breaking ground in New Orleans. The article doesn't say exactly where it's going to be. Where is it?
  15. Where does everybody park that works in this building. It's quite beautiful but the logistics of parking alone seem formidable. I recall that Wildlife and Fisheries used to be there. Are they still?
  16. It looks like there's some movement on the World Trade Center project. I'm very curious to see the plans as they must be quite ambitious. A 900 room hotel included in 10 years of construction and transformation.
  17. Any idea what this is all about? 23 story condominium
  18. Here's an interesting site about New Orleans street cars. I don't know how many there are but I think they were saying they would take one million dollars each to repair them. That seems excessive.
  19. This looks like the Hyatt Hotel, Jazz Park project. Hopefully it'll get started in the near future.
  20. Construction is underway on the Falstaff Breweryconversion. I believe it's on run down Tulane Avenue which needs a lot work from Claiborne all the way to Carrolton.
  21. Trump's local office has indicated that construction would start in September. I sure hope so. It should act as a catalyst for more construction like the superdome did in the 70's.
  22. This looks like it's the Royal Cosmopolitan project on Royal at Canal. Maybe September will be the banner month when Trump and some other big projects finally get started. I was also glad to see Sydney Torres get the sanitation contract for City Park. You need to check out the newly planted Crepe Myrtles and oaks along the corridor leading to the art museum. They look great, however there's a lot of work left to be done.
  23. International Shipholding pleased with move to Mobile. I heard on the radio (I believe it was on Garland Robinette's show) that this move could have been averted if Ray Nagin would have returned a phone call to Erik Johnsen. This sounds unbelievable on one hand and believable on the other. Say it isn't so.
  24. Master planner of Jazz Park says of fading plans for his project: "It's almost two years later. You should be looking out your window and seeing cranes over the skyline," Geller said. "New Orleans can snatch defeat from the jaws of victory." Article in today's Times-Pic speaks poorly of state and city leadership.
  25. GOOD NEWS I received the following from Pam Lauer from Trump New Orleans after making an e-mail inquiry about groundbreaking. "We are planning to begin construction in September 2007, and our national marketing campaign is about to begin."
