  1. Duke lost to Miami, FL last night! Another big game that not many people know about is South Alabama vs. Western Kentucky tonight in Bowling Green, Ky. South Alabama is 21-5 (13-2) and WKU is 21-5 (13-1). South won the first meeting in Mobile earlier this year and they will likely meet again for the Sun Belt championship which happens to be in Mobile, AL in March.

Speaking of Clemson, it will be very interesting to see Clemson and Alabama meet in the Georgia Dome to open the season.
  3. I've been looking forward to this game for months. I think this UT team is our best team in the nation. I'll be shocked to see Memphis win this one.
  4. It also calls for the destruction of downtown buildings in order to resolve the current entry problems to the Wallace tunnel, thus increasing the impact of the downtown interchange. I wish we could dissolve that interchange and tunnel altogether.
  5. That's some solid planning right there. Anyone know what firm designed this project?

    Downtown Mobile

That's interesting about Baumhower. I was walking toward Government Plaza about this time 2 years ago when I saw him and his friends walking out of that building, seems like this is an idea he has had for quite some time now.
  7. This is actually quite big if you think about it. This is the first New Urbanism project in the Mobile metro region (excluding Bon Secour).
  8. I'm actually in favor of an open park in this location. I am STRONGLY in favor of added residential in downtown Mobile, and encourage developers at any given opportunity to develop residential downtown, but in this location I feel a Mardi Gras themed park would be invaluable in the future. Redevelopment of downtown is imminent, and there are plenty of blighted properties that the city doesn't own that can be developed for condo use. The development of a condo would benefit Mobile greatly in the short term and possibly further spur downtown redevelopment, but 20-25 years from now when we see 10's of thousands of residents downtown and land to develop scarce, open space will be at a premium. Plus, this location is right along parade route A and would be the location for many civic events such as Mardi Gras, Bayfest concerts, and other events that would benefit the city as a whole. I believe the Civic center location would be much more fitting for a condo redevelopment rather than this central downtown location.
  9. The condo project would be more fitting for downtown Mobile. There are plenty of vacant and blighted areas that a park can be built, this area is in dire need of a mixed-use residential high rise. Sam Jones campaigned on bringing green space to downtown Mobile so it will be interesting to see how this progresses.
  10. Feb. is the big release, be on the lookout.
  11. A new affordable mixed-use community w/ a town center is coming to the coast....... details should be coming out very soon.
