  1. Wow, that was a terrible review. But I'm confused b/c that's not the same boathouse I've been to 4 times now. They specialize in seafood for a reason. Maybe the reviewer should have tried some of their actual seafood dishes and not an alfredo pasta or what is essentially cheese soup and toast. It's been a few months since I was there, but I still dream about getting another seafood tower: SEAFOOD TOWER* Four oysters, steamed shrimp, mussels, crab and lobster roll, smoked salmon & two tuna tartare spoons $29 or the Colossal Crabcake Chesapeake (this used to be called something more regal when I had it, but it's the same thing) 1/2 lb jumbo lump crabcake gently mixed with only mayonnaise, Pommery Mustard, and egg; broiled and served with our house made mashed potatoes $32. (damn, i'm making myself hungry!!) Sounds like the reviewer was on a budget! I've never been for Brunch but it looks great and I'd love to get one of those giant carafes that only "drag queens" should be seen drinking from. Maybe I'm thirstier than most, but I didn't think they were all that big Long story short if anyone hasn't been there, and was put off by the review that shan't be named, get down there and see for yourself.
  2. Hey guys, Saw an add for www.planeview.aero. I've always wanted to take a spin in a WWII fighter and this is a close approximation to one. I tried googlin' for other companies operating in the central VA area, but didnt' find any. Has anyone here done something similar or taken a flight with anyone? My Dad's Christmas present hangs in the balance. Thanks!!!
  3. Petersburg's identity should be civil war everything, but b/c of mismanagement and political bickering for decades it's identity is currently "that place you go only when the sun is up". Now, of course, that's not true for the entire city, as there are jewels of neighborhoods there like sycamore st. But by and large that's the perception that people have of it. Only very very recently has anything good been happening downtown. The new restaurants are somewhat sophisticated and are luring more and more people from colonial heights (where I grew up). If anyone ever wants a vision of what downtown petersburg should / could be go hang out at cockade alley right over the appomattox bridge. There's a delightful restaurant hidden in there calld Brickhouse Run. The owners actually got sledgehammers and tore up the asphalt (with the city's approval of course) to reveal the beautiful cobblestones underneath. But why? Why did they have to do it? Why won't the city of petersburg cash in on all of its history? It frustrates me to see such a historic and (could be) beautiful town sit and fester.
