  1. I think one way to relieve the problem is to build a few more retention ponds( in this case they might have to be lakes) in order to catch the water before it makes it way to Crabtree. Going towards the other end build a lake to hold the water flowing past Crabtree. Have they actually thought about covering over Crabtree Creek, putting in 20ft by 20 ft concrete piping that would funnel the creek through the area and empty out to the lake they would build. There is a little bit a lnad left by Crabtree blvd and Capital blvd. The trick would be to make sure this lake stays empty as much as possible so when floods come it will have the capicity to handle the water from Crabtree creek upstream. Just a thought
  2. I think that Burberry is possible. It appears that the mall is going for a home run again and those stores that are possibly first in the state or at least Triangle.
  3. It actually was to be one of the largest, if not the largest mall, in the southeast. However after clearing all the land and building the overpass, laying drainage pipe, the developer went bankrupt. If i remember correctly the developer was Australian. That is when the current developer came in and built Crossroads. And oh yeah, one family owned all that land and made in 1990 $5 million dollars. The held out 2 acres surrounded in trees where there house was. I remember seeing it everytime we went to Pharmor. It was very odd looking.
  4. I expect in the next ten years that it will become a two story mall. with parking decks. Another mall will be coming into the new part of town...west of 55 to support of the Apex, Holly springs, and new Cary crowd. With buildout of cary around 175K I can't imagine it would only have one mall for the whole town. On another note.. The old parking lot that is never used is being torn up now and Restuarants will be going in. Across from barnes and nobles will be a good pedistran location for whoever goes in there.
  5. we are going to have one messed up lookin airport for a while until Terminal A gets a makeover. Can you imagine flying into RDU and seeing the Blue Monster and the Silver Bullet? UGH!! I only imagine want thoughts will run thru people's minds that are new to the area. Can we at least paint the Blue Monster silver. Sweet pics though of terminal C, soon to be Terminal 2.
  6. Here is a story on Virgin Americas' plans for flights. I was trying to find the link to where you can vote for the next city for Virgin America to fly too. I found it in this article but the voting is over. Day late Dollar Short.. http://www.virginamerica.com/informationde....php?article=34 The best thing will be the In flight Entertainment center... Virgin America recently unveiled its onboard cabin, including first class seats with 55 inches of seat pitch (legroom) and massage chairs, as well as mood lighting and a digital inflight entertainment system providing on-demand moves and TV, games, music and online chat rooms and even self-service mini-bars for snacks and beverages available throughout the flight. Sweet... And their fares will compete with Jet Blue and Southwest.
  7. Amazingly enough, which they mentioned at the end of the story, was that "Sprawlie Raleigh" is the largest state capital not to have a law school. http://www.wral.com/news/10199345/detail.html
  8. Whoever buys a residence or owns a business there : Make sure you have REALLY good FLOOD insurance.
  9. I wonder if anybody has ever thought about buying the ugly buildings and tear them down since half go vacant and build a five story building with student housing on 4 floors and retail on the street level floor. And not be ridiculous on the rent either since they are college students. The convienence to be across the street and need no car but still be off campus would be a huge plus. University towers(?) is getting old?
  10. That is awesome. So does your brother think that Fidelity will be just the first of many to come to the Triangle? Usually Charlotte is thought of the Financial hub of the South. That may be changing, huh?
  11. Forgive me but I am rather new to the posting. you might have already posted somewhere else but is your brother in the financial world or just know sources at Fidelity? That is so awesome that Fidelity is coming with such a mass of people. Maybe Morgan Stanley will be next. That means more hockey fans also to cheer on the Hurricanes
  12. Great things for the economy at the cost of only $62 Million in incentives. I think the anti incentive people don't realize that these people have to pay sales tax when they make purchases, property tax, buy houses, and income tax. Yes the company gets a tax break through upfront incentives but the sheer number of employees make up for it. Shoot we had a $2 billion surplus this year. With all jobs created the income tax revenue shot thru the roof
  13. Here is the link. http://www.newsobserver.com/104/story/466785.html The news conference is today, Wednesday 11am EST. BIG NEWS for the area. MORe traffic. Horray!!! Horray!!!! But seriously, it could only be good for the area's publicity. I am sure the Boston Globe will have something also on it.
  14. Okay. I didn't know this would spur so many comments about Denver. I TOTALLY agree about DT Denver. It is very clean and much more alivened than DT Raleigh. A great model for Raleigh. (oddly enough my in laws being from Seattle thought DT Denver was small, vertically and horizontally). But as put in another post the southside (between Englewood and Centennial) has a very tired look. Most houses are 40 to 50 years old. The wealthy areas like Greenwood Village and Cherry Hills with the multi million $$ mansions have an upkept look. I fimrly believe the people who live in Colorado are here because they are outdoor enthusiasts. The Rocky Mountians provide a great playground for sure. But I like NC because we have both mountains and beaches and great, great golfing. In Colorado, they have to plant hundreds if not a couple thousand trees to replicate the great courses of the south becasue there are fewer trees on the Plains. But here we mow them down to cut a path. Anywho, for me a great city to visit but the culture is too different for me. Plus I am a beach goer more than a mountian goer.
  15. What the lady was probably talking about is the manicured lawns and medians and all the grennery that is provided by the town and HOAs. Living in Denver, it is ugly. No one but the ultra rich (meaning living in $3M homes) take care of the lawns and neighborhoods. The medians are weed infested and filled with rotting trees. The sidewalks are all broken and weeds are literally knee high and there are tons of old wooden, broken, termite infested fences along the road, where as Cary and other towns in the Triangle use stone/brick most of the time for the fences. Compared to what I look at everyday, Cary is pretty.
  16. There are people who do read the article and then decide to move to these cities. I met some when Cary was ranked # 1 best place to live in the East. I totally agree on the publicity thing. Why do you thing so many people are moving to the Triangle. Because it is a great place to live. I think the article just solidifies what many already know. When companies take notice, that is when large numbers of people move here and we have seen that lately with so many corporate relocations or new HQ being created.
  17. FIdelity already has 900 employees in the RTP. They took over the administration of the IBM pension plan so they boosted their staff for that project. So if they bring another 5000 then they were would be about 6000 employees and would be the second largest employer in the RTP and top five private employer in the Triangle. BIG BIG NEWS for the Triangle from the article in the Boston Herald. Found it here. ( link posted above also) http://business.bostonherald.com/businessN...rticleid=144725.
  18. I think the zoo at 90 acres, as I mentioned on page 3, a botanical garden on 25 acres, and then incorporate some living quarters there with some nice high end restuarants, maybe a family restaurant as well. Raleigh has to become more of a destination stop, when people have options, that means more money is spent at these options. Our museums are free which is great and unusual. A park would be nice, but a park that generates revenue would be even better use of that land that is so rare now in Wake County. I vote CITY ZOO/BOTANICAL GARDEN ( like balboa park in San Diego) and Retail/Residental Area. Leave the rest alone for now. You do not have to develop all 315 acres right now, do you. More great ideas will come as time passes. Check out some links Denver Zoo (90 acres) 1.6M vistors annually http://www.denverzoo.org/default.asp San Diego Zoo ( 100 acres) 4000 animals, $137 M in gate revenue http://www.sandiegozoo.org/zoo/index.html Balboa Park ( 1200 acres) but has 15 museums on it but a smaller concept would be just applicable http://www.balboapark.org/in-the-park/ I am native to Raleigh but since turning 18 have lived in Sacramento, Seattle, Salt Lake City, and Denver. Raleigh is where my heart is though. Seattle has a great downtown destination called the Science Center which the famed Space Needle is part of. You go into the Science Center and it screams Corporate giving/ support with rooms, exhibits, areas all with a Corporate sponsor. ( So and so exhibit brought to by Costco or the Boeing IMAX theater) We have great corporations in the Triangle that would love to sponsor something great. As they say "Build it and they will come."
  19. I think with the acres that are left, I would love to see a city zoo put on 90 acres of it. It is a short drive from all the museums in downtown and the Vet school at NCSU could be incorporated into providing labor/training for the zoo. I think if Wake County and all the cities around kicked in a little money then the funding certainly could be started plus the corporate citizenship would make this feasible. I like the NC Zoo but it is too big and too much walking in the summer. I currently live in Denver CO and they have a 90 acre zoo that is packed with people. Over 1.5 million people a year come to the zoo making it one of the most popular places to visit in town and one of the most popular zoos in America. Just another destination for vistors when they come to Raleigh.
  20. Durham and Raleigh are now separated as stated in the Forbes magazine because the US Census consider these as two separate MSAs now. Raleigh is number two for the third straight year and in the top three for the fourth straight year. Why we can't acheive number one I don't know why. The business costs are the reason this year but it is something different every year. I'll take number two every year but one year as number 1 would be nice.
  21. Living in Denver currently, though I grew up in the Triangle. Frontier looks like they are getting some serious competiton from Southwest. Ever since January 06 when Southwest came to town Frontier is looking for a way to diversify itself a litte more than the traditonal spoke hub system which all major airlines are abandoning. Today, Frontier announced a route from LA to SF. I would supsect that Frontier will come to RDU by end of 07. I know RDU has made it public that they are seeking a direct connection to Denver whether that is United or Frontier we will see. I know that United out here has said they are going to try some things differently since they came out of bankruptcy. They plan to expand their Denver hub by 10 gates in the next year also. Maybe one of those will be RDU. Southwest meanwhile is looking to get 6 more gates by end of June added to the three the already have. Each gate represent ten flights. Speculation is that Southwest will try to fly to Nashville and other Florida destinations direct.
