1. A few updates in the Boiling Springs area: Pizza Inn is starting to take applications, but they're not done building it yet. The Copper River Grill has had some excellent progress lately. It doesn't have any signs up yet, but the building is beautiful! The not-so-pretty houses at the intersection of Rainbow Lake Rd and Hwy 9 are finally coming down. One house has already been demolished, and they're taking away the pieces now. 2 more houses go down after that. Anybody know what's going up there? There's a CommunitySouth sign up, but that might just be who's financing the construction. There's some ground leveling going on next to the Applebee's. I have no clue what's going up, I just know that we're expecting. ;-) I drove by twice looking for signs; no luck. Spartan, you had created a 2007 wishlist thread. I didn't think of it until know, but I wish we'd get a Bank of America over here.
2. I've been outta town on business lately and haven't had time to drive around in a while. Have they already started tearing down the Proffit's, or did they change their mind on that? Where will Hollister's be located? If I seem like I'm leading into asking whether Hollister's will be taking over Proffit's old spot, your intuition is spot on. ;-)
3. Here's a widescreen shot of the train at Beaumont Avenue (northbound) and Isom Street. The train was stationary at the time. I don't know why, I just like these old train overpasses. ;-) Higher rez photos available here.
4. Here's a shot of Downtown sorta overlooking Magnolia Street. I love the new upgraded site! I haven't looked around too much, but I like what I see so far. Higher rez photos available here.
5. The last 2 are my fav's as well. djh, do you have higher resolution photos for those last 2? That would make for an excellent wallpaper.
6. Pizza Inn & Copper River Grill update: There's more to look at than just foundations these days. They're still not done, but all the walls and roofing is up. Just plywood, but they're showing good signs of progress. Big open spot of leveled, undeveloped land next to Ingles on Hwy 9 update: It's still just a big open spot of leveled, undeveloped land.
7. I was taking pictures of the train station a couple of weeks ago hoping to catch a train go by. I was going to slow the shutter speed to have a time-elapse effect and everything. I got tired of waiting and left. As I pulled up to the stoplight just outside the station, I heard the train coming. There's always next time. ;-)
8. Spartanburg Memorial Auditorium I actually snapped this without even getting out of the car. I just parked outside the auditor's office, stuck the camera out the window and waited for the cars to dissipate. ;-) Higher Rez photos available here.
9. Sheesh. All the talk of how there's a restaurant void in Spartanburg and then we lose 2 good ones. Sorta bittersweet, I suppose. I'm happy anytime crooked management sees justice. But sad to see those restaurants go. I had intended on going to Hub City soon since I had put it off for so long. Oh well. Is there an article about that somewhere? I searched wspa.com and didn't see it. Has our new Olive Garden opened yet? I know they're close.
10. Here's a couple shots of the Wild Wings downtown. I meant to get a picture of the front too, but it just slipped my mind. Higher Rez photos available here. By the way, I love the new Sig, Spartan. I couldn't agree with that quote more.
11. huck, instead of posting the {img}, post a link {url=...}. Click here That way, it's not posted on the site, but your high resolution photo would be a link for people to click on. (See the bottom of my post) ;-) Here's the new Cleveland S Harley Baseball Park that went up at USCS. (Sorry, but I refuse to call it Upstate just yet) I'm not exactly sure when it went up. All I know is that it had to have been within the past 3 years. A softball park went up right beside it. It's called 'Cyrill Stadium'. The two baseball parks are right next to the South Carolina Army National Guard and University Readiness Center that's also new, but a few years older than the baseball parks. That campus has really changed a lot over the past few years. There's also supposed to be a new multi-story library building going up at some point too. But enough of that. Higher rez photos available here.
12. That would be me. Couldn't figure it out. All I could recognize was the BB&T building. But that's like, um... easy to do... hehe Loved the use of font sizes to show near and far, by the way.
13. Very nice shot! I envy you for being able to tell what it is that you're seeing out the window. I always *think* I know. But deep down, I know I don't have a clue! hehe The sad thing is, I was hitting the airport rather frequently for a solid 2 years (2k4-2k5). The only thing I ever recognized was Chicago. Do you remember the show Family Matters? When it first comes on, the camera flies in towards Downtown and you see the river there and all the homes/buildings along the shore. We flew in sorta that way, so that's how I knew I was in Chicago. (That's sad.) Welcome to UP, huck94!
14. I agree. Fixing the DuPre House should happen sooner rather than later. Especially since later might not be an option. I can't imagine that the termites have much left to consume there. ;-) Here's a traffic shot with a bit of a skyline going on. This is Asheville Highway and Chapel Street right before 221 merges in. Higher rez photos available here.
15. I thought we may need a before picture of the DuPre House since they'll be remodeling soon (I guess). I also snapped this nice photo at Cleveland Park off of Asheville Highway. Various resolutions for these photos can be downloaded here: Spartanburg Photos
16. I've always seen the Spartanburg Photos topic, but the name has no obligation. Nothing to try to live up to. A photo of the day topic is just the sort of motivation I need to actually start taking some pictures. Great idea Spartan!
17. I've been eyeing those spots too every time I pass by. Either there's no sign up or I've overlooked it a dozen times.
18. I think 292 was the one to be widened to 5 lanes, or did you hear that they'd be doing that with Old Furnace Rd as well? I would like to see a widening of the road toward Lyman too. It needs another lane because of all the slow traffic that goes that route. Are there a lot of deer in that area? Speed traps? I've not seen either so I'm at a loss as to why people go so far below the speed limit.
19. Sorry for going off topic. It's just that 2 of their abandoned stores are within 2 miles of my house. Plus the abandoned Ingles. Boo...
20. I saw some planned road improvements in and around Boiling Springs at Spartanburg County's website. I like what they'll be doing with Old Furnace Road. I wish the widening of Hwy 9 could come a whole lot sooner than 2014 though. Ouch.
21. Looks like some investors might be buying the Radisson Hotel and Suites. Roberts Hotel Group. The article reads as though their niche is buying up undervalued properties and making improvements on them. According to the article, they'll be keeping the Radisson name. http://www.goupstate.com/apps/pbcs.dll/art.../610170374/1026
22. Or all Winn-Dixie's for that matter. ;-) Is there anything planned for the Winn Dixie on Asheville Highway across from the Ingles? (Near FBNS) There's a HUGE amount of land in that area, not just what Winn Dixie takes up either. Oh, and I'd really like to see the squatters gone. Just place an ad for your boats or cars that you have for sale. Sheesh.
23. For anyone that uses Google Earth, they just updated the maps of Boiling Springs! The pictures appear to be about a year old, because it's showing the new subdivision next to Spring Hill on Belcher Rd with no houses, just dirt roads. But I'll take that. Before it was just a big blur. You couldn't even distinguish the road from the trees! hehe
24. I'll try to make sure the new Pizza Inn gets some good business. I'm a sucker for chocolate chip pizza. On a related note: The Pizza Inn in on 56 (Cedar Springs Road) in the Camp Croft area of Roebuck shut down and re-opened under a new name. Mama's Pizza or something like that. I haven't been there since the name change, but I do know that it's still a buffet. Hmm... still buffet... still pizza... I'm assuming they just broke away from the Pizza Inn franchise. Perhaps they have some cool new items you can't get at Pizza Inn. If I go, I'll post about it, but not in this thread. Well, back to the start of the thread, and I'm probably the last one to notice, but I figure it's worth posting: It looks like Northern Tool & Equipment is open now.
