  1. Okay, so I promised some pix from the updated library. I only took 2. One from the outside and one inside at the entrance. Before, the library entrance was a little confusing to firstcomers. Now the entrance brings you directly inside the library. There's plenty (PLENTY) of reading areas, and I counted 2 computer centers. I think I counted at least 16 computers at one of those centers. I didn't look at any of the meeting rooms though. I would've taken more photos, but it was a library after all. I didn't want to disturb anyone. ;-) I'm very pleased with the updates, and apparently so is everyone else. There was a LOT of people there when I went.
  2. hey 'hey', welcome to the forum. ;-) Yeah, I'm loving me some Copper River! Everything I've had there has been really good. Spinach Artichoke dip.... mmmmmm....... I do hope that there's some sensibility in the town's expansion though. That's one of the reasons I'm hoping for incorporation. So there'd be some more reasonable oversight.
  3. I'm a little late posting this, but the Boiling Springs Library has finished it's renovations and was dedicated this past Sunday. They're back in the original location and have opened their doors again. I'll post some photos later on.
  4. I did some digging and found the following link: http://www.uscupstate.edu/press/article.aspx?id=18208 They had a rendering, but the photo quality is not that great. I was wondering if it was gonna be a more modern style like the new QS/1 building. Looks like 'no' to that, but I'm not disappointed either. It has an elegance to it. Can't wait to see the final product.
  5. I think it's more like a Taco Bell than a Chipotle. The main difference being that they serve burgers and fries too. Chipotle would've been nice.
  6. Sorry about the late reply. I meant to say DD but said KKD. Sorry 'bout any confusion.
  7. Good thought with the sidewalks. I hope they talked about bicycle lanes too. The Upstate is starting to get a good reputation (especially Spartanburg) for being bike friendly. I don't want Boiling Springs to be the sore thumb to that. I wish I could've made it to that meeting. I had a sick 6 month old though. :-/ I did notice that there's a Krispy Kreme being built. And I was sad to learn last week that Pizza Inn closed. Does anybody know why??? They always seemed so busy.
  8. Whoops. :-) I guess I should've read more about the project first rather than just take a picture of the model they had sitting out that day. :-)
  9. Okay, it's not Jay's, but I found it. I just did a quick google search for landscaping places on parris bridge rd. So, here's the pic!
  10. Is it Jay's Landscaping & Supply?
  11. I'll swing by tomorrow if someone can get me the address.
  12. Does anyone know of a good article of what's to expect with the renovations to the library? I didn't see anything on their website.
  13. I thought I'd post a picture from Spring Fling. I ran into my arch enemy. We battled. I lost. He may have won this round, but I'll get him next time Inspector Gadget!
  14. I know you're not being critical. I guess to rephrase I'm happy that we're getting more businesses, but I do have this gut feeling that it's woodruff road all over again. Woodruff Road used to be just a connection from one part of the town to the other. Then it got a red light... Then some businesses.... Then some more businesses... But no real thought process to how the roads connect. So no, I guess I'm not too happy about the way it's growing, but I am very happy to just see growth in the first place. When I moved here 3 years ago, I was uncertain of whether it would grow or stagnate, but there's still businesses coming in. That's exciting for me because the more businesses that I have near my house, the more I save on gas and the higher my property value goes up. So in short, it's bittersweet. I like it, but I don't like the way it's happened. I've been told not to talk about the space trip. I don't have to remove my posts, but I'm not allowed to talk about it anymore. But I'll give you some even more exciting news than that to make up for it. I'm going to be a dad!!! This will be our first baby!
  15. Boiling Springs Updates 1. Chick-Fil-A is open (has been for the past few weeks) and has been pAcKeD each time I've driven by there. I ate their once, and for fast food, it was certainly good. Hot, fresh, fast and tasty. They connected an entrance from Rainbow Lake Road and the strip mall (Game Stop/Papa John's). No connection to Applebee's! I was really hoping for something that would join all these roads together because traffic is building up in this area. Oh well. 2. I ate at the Pizza Inn a few times since it opened. I was pleased. They rotate through pizzas rather fast when they're busy (which is often). But that's a good thing because you're getting a lot of different pizzas. 3. There's a used car dealership that has gone up. I think it was Dave Edwards that opened it, but I can't remember. 4. There's some big barn looking building that's going up in that area. Not sure what it's going to be, but it looks kinda like a Cracker Barrel. I saw a sign out front that said 'something, something food equipment' so I'm guessing it'll be a restaurant. 5. Jade East (I hope I'm remembering the name right) is going up at the new shopping center next to Copper River Grill. Judging by the name, it'll be yet another china delivery restaurant. Speaking of the shopping center... Anybody have a clue what else is going up in that shopping center? I'm so happy with the way Boiling Springs is growing! I'm just thinking of how many businesses that have come in over the past year or so. Game Stop, Papa John's, Copper River Grill, Pizza Inn, perhaps Cracker Barrel, Jade East, FireHouse Subs, Hub City Coffee and probably more whose names escape me.
  16. This all seems so familiar... Oh yeah. I think I read this in a children's story once. Let's see if I can remember it... See the Hooter's owner(s). See the Hooter's owner(s) bring revenue in taxes to the city. See the Hooter's owner(s) get denied a liquor license because it would be bad for the community. (Just nevermind the fact that the city had a majority vote to annex the location so that Hooter's could obtain a Sunday Liquor License.) There was a follow up story too. It went like this: See Bill. See Bill run. See Bill go have a drink at the mall because Hooter's was denied a liquor license for their proximity to the mall.
  17. It's a bittersweet thing. I hate seeing the old Proffit's building go, but really glad to see a Costco. Perhaps one day we'll have the population to support a multifloor mall. I'm loving all the relatively recent development that's been going on in the Westgate area, though!!! Chandi's Bistro, Spartan 16, new Long John Silver's/A&W, new Best Buy, Olive Garden, Dorman Center, etc... and I suppose I should mention Hooter's even though I'm not a fan.
  18. Hardee's is actually constructing a whole new building. My wife had heard that the old Winn-Dixie is going to become a Food Lion (I don't know her source). That whole shopping center is in need of a facelift. Hopefully the Hardee's will inspire something to happen on that side of the road. Even if it's just some fresh pavement, paint and landscaping. That would do the trick, I think.
  19. Yes, I'm a developer. We have a warehouse management system that we sell. As a matter of fact, I'm in Arkansas now, in the middle of a project. :-)
  20. Thanks! I'm still in major disbelief, to be honest. It doesn't feel like I'm going. I'm still waiting on the catch, even though I already know what it is. I'm just happy to have my wife's blessing. The first 10 hours after telling her, I didn't have her blessing AT ALL. I owe her BIG TIME. hehe
  21. This is certainly off topic. And a bit overdue. I've been looking forward to posting this. So, some of you may have heard of the Oracle Space Sweepstakes. If not, the grand prize winner gets an all-expenses paid trip into space. Well, a guy named Brian Emmett had won the sweepstakes but later backed out because the cash prize that went along with the gift didn't quite cover the taxes. He's from CA and he'd have to pay another $25k on top of what Oracle gave him, which is $35k, in order to go. As it turns out, another space company heard why he couldn't go and decided to "hire" him as a "consultant". At that point, it was no longer considered a gift, but an expense, which is non-taxable. So now he still gets to go to space and Oracle is left looking for another winner! Which brings me to my point. So, I got a call a few weeks ago from some lady in New York and apparantly I was 2nd in line for the grand prize! Woo hoo! As it turns out, even in SC the $35k in cash isn't enough. But it's under $10k which is much more palatable. So I will somehow be coming up with that money and going into space! Way cool, huh? Watch for my name to show up on Oracle's website (below) over the next couple of monthes. (There's a ton of paperwork yet to go through, so my picture won't be up there anytime soon.) http://www.oracle.com/technology/space/winners.html Here's the company that's going to be sending me up! http://www.spaceadventures.com/ Time to change the 'ol Avatar! hehe
  22. lol No, I think huck was refering to the menu items. I've only eaten at J. Jr's once or twice, so I don't remember the menu all that well and what parallels there are between the two. The investor of the restaurant drew his inspiration from an Alaskan lodge, apparantly when he was vacationing in Alaska. Or so the marketing stuff says. It really does like nice, though. There's a lot of use of stone and lumber, which I love. But rest assured, it doesn't look gimmicky. ;-) On the flipside, it seems they went with regular salmon instead of Alaskan Salmon. What's up wit dat? Man, I'm really craving some pecan-crusted salmon now. Every time I think of salmon, that's what i think of. I might have to go to Fatz too this weekend. It's not on their menu, but sometimes they'll make it if you ask for it. Yum, yum, yum, yum.....
  23. I'm looking forward to winter time when they turn on those fireplaces. ;-)
  24. Pizza Inn has its sign on now. Copper River Grill opens tomorrow at 11!!! Woo-hoo! I won't be able to try it out until I get back from AR this weekend though. But I caught one of the guys prepping for Monday yesterday and so I grabbed a menu. I was going to scan it in and post it, but as it turns out, they already have a website. Saves me the trouble! http://www.copperrivergrill.com/ I'm most looking forward to the Kodiak Chicken. That sounds rather yummy. ;-)
  25. Pizza Inn is open, though they don't have a sign up yet. ;-) I wouldn't have guessed that they would have been done before the Copper River Grill. They just didn't seem to be making much progress there for a while, and then WHOOP, there it is! Also, it seems like the Chick-Fil-A will have an entrance coming from Rainbow Lake Road as well as the strip mall that holds the Game Stop and Papa John's. Hopefully they'll tie another entrance back to either AppleBee's or that road that runs by Bojangle's/Wendy's/Arby's so that I can drive around those places without having to get on Hwy 9 or Rainbow Lake Road unless I'm coming in or heading out. So minor a point that I won't be disappointed, but if they do pave it that way, it'd be a nice little bonus. Not sure why the strip mall with GS/PJ didn't already connect to B/W/A, but I'm sure they had their reasons.
