  1. That looks cool, I am glad to see things happening out that way. It was also cool to see something might happen to the old Warehouse near the Hospital.

I keep wondering when someone will redevelope the Par 3 on Villa Rd. as well.

Do you mean Cross Winds Golf? Why redevelop? It's doing well I believe.

  2. http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/reds...pitching_staff/

Boston Red Sox #5 starter, Jon Lester, is expected to make four starts for Greenville. I'm guessing that Gabe Kapler's presence may help increase the number of major league players that come to Greenville on rehab assignments. That and the fact that the high-A affiliate is now in California, and not Delaware.

Why would Gabe Kapler's presence increase rehab assignment from Boston? That's not really how the system works.

Most rehab assignments are done at the AA and AAA level anyhow, and for Boston that means Portland, ME and Pawtucket, RI.

  3. I can't say whether it does or not. I hope you understand that it is not because I do not want to tell though. ;)

I've always thought that when Piazza de Bergamo gets redone, that it would be a great place for a street level TV studio, so we can all gawk and wave at the camera.

Found this old picture a couple of weeks ago. (This is a picture of a picture.)

I think I can smell the old pop corn and remember the perpetually sticky floors just looking at that building.

The Big Brown Box was.... unique... I sorta hated it was imploded 10 years ago. It could have made a nice exhibit hall.

  5. What web browser do you use? I use Mozilla Firefox and the latest version has a built in spell check.

Actually FireFox has a built in spell checker starting w/version 2 I think.

It does, and the ease of use with that spell checker is one reason I haven't used IE in a long time.

  6. Also, walked by Highcotton about 5pm, and there was not a single person in the restaurant, just some workers and two floors of empty tables. Does it have strange business hours or is this a bad sign? How many more restaurants can DT realistically support at this time?

I can't imagine many Greenville area higher end restaurants have a lot of business at 5 PM on a Monday.

  7. Can't find this on the website and I don't make it by the team store during the week to check out. Is the team store open year round or just in season? If just in season, will it be opening a week or so in advance of the first game? Anybody know? :dontknow:

The team store is open all year, 9 - 5 hours I think, less on Saturdays.

  8. I noticed that Spokane, Washington hosted the US Figure Skating Championships in an arena smaller than the Bi-Lo Center a couple of weeks ago.

Since Greenville is pursuing niche sports, like the US Pro Cycling or even perhaps a Senior PGA tour event, hosting the US Figure Skating Championships could be a big deal for the Bi-Lo Center and maybe something that should be pursued.

Short of the NCAA tournament and or another conference basketball championship coming back to town, seems that would be a great addition to Greenville.

  9. I'm a little slow to this party. Can I sum up and then folks can tell me if I have it right or wrong?

BRT is sorta a hybrid between a bus and train. Essentially it uses existing rail lines and then puts public transport on it. Therby the local government doesn't have to build expensive new rail lines with right of way's, nor does it need to infest in expensive to maintain light rail systems. In return, a reliable system is put in place along transportation coridors that allows the users to avoid time delays on roads entirely. Is that right?

Or can I just call a BRT a bus/train 'thing'?

  10. This may have been asked before. Does the UP forum have a spell check feature? Sure would be nice. While I know how to spell, my typing tends not to be the best, so example, typing "water" I leave out the "e" and it becomes "watr".....or I run two words together, etc, etc. I so heavily rely on spellcheck day in day out to correct my mistakes. Would be nice to see it on UP.

What web browser do you use? I use Mozilla Firefox and the latest version has a built in spell check.

  11. I have been on this forum for a very long time now and I know I tend to have opinions that change every two seconds and emotions that do the same. It is time that I quit this and post opinion on topics that matter and not change them. I need to start keeping my emotions in check too. I also need to stop posting stupid stuff on threads that don't matter and start posting stuff that only matters and involves what the thread is about. It is time I mature and start getting fellow urbanplanet members and moderators to start liking me again. :)

There is a lot of drama with you dude, a lot.

  12. That is true. A tower could be built on a small portion of its current site. The main thing we all would like to see is the current setup completely redeveloped into a mixed-use, high density extention of downtown. Anyone else think the new development should include a historical element, such as naming the property, "Furman Heights?" It is a key vista overlooking the CBD and the West End.

Whatever eventually goes into a county square location would have to have some type of geographic integration with the Governor's school. Also, I've always thought the county war memorial is in an awkward spot in that parking lot, and would prefer a better location for it. I know its county, but seems as if Piazza de Bergamo would be a better location.

  13. That really hurts. I suppose the other SC cities hoping to ban smoking will run into the same problem. :dunno:

They will run into the 'problem' if it is challenged in their local circuit, or if their councils can somehow write an ordinance around the provision Judge Few cites.
