WOW! Anyone opposed to this development as it stands today could be out of his/her mind! WYFF4 just aired a report on the new development and showed the renderings, which are simply fantastic! The initial investment will be $250,000,000 and the annual revenue generated from this development is expected to be approximately $3,000,000 - yeah, that sounds unbelieveable. Awesome!

I don't think that this type of development is appropriate for Oconee County. This development essentially opens the door to more of this type of development, and Lake Keowee is not the best place for this to happen. Hartwell would be more appropriate. I don't want to see Keowee lined with condos.

I respectfully disagree: Lake Keowee is already setup for this type of development, as it is 3/4 developed with luxury residential along the shoreline already. These designs are absolutely incredible and fit the mountain lake scenery very well. Also, I think Oconee County will be glad to have such an addition to its tax base, not to mention the increase in population and everything else it will bring to the already well-populated Lake Keowee area.

No question that you are right. I just disagree with this thing in principle. Think about what happens to Oconee when you get dozens of these projects through. Are we setting it up to be the Myrtle Beach of the Upstate? What about traffic resulting from such additional developments (not all of these will be vaation condos)? What about emergency services for the elderly who will most likely buy these condos (AnMed is pretty far off)? Oconee, if it continues this pattern of development, is setting itself up for a major problem.

If it works financially, then more power to Oconee County. No question that right Atlantans who want an escape for the weekend will be more than happy to fork out the money for a palce to stay where they aren't responsible for maintence.

Don't think that I am ignorant of the advanteages of this project ;).... just understand that I tend to think about the future. What is going on here is much more than a single cool project.

I think this development will conitnue to do for the Greenville metro / Upstate the same thing the Cliffs have done......bring in many out of state, high-end residence. I see that as a very good, no I mean GREAT thing! :thumbsup:

Its still too much for one building.

This sewer line is not just for MonteLago. Extending the sewer line will allow every other present and future development along the way to tie into it thus elimimating septic tanks.. The sewer will be part of the public utility.

I think this development will be the only one that happens on Lake Keowee. Oconee County has no zoning at the moment. This project has opened the door to bringing in zoning in the county. While this project will not be affected by any proposed zoning laws I think the chances of another condo project coming to Lake Keowee are slim. Which helps make this project even more unique.

There will be no chance of Lake Keowee becoming the Myrtle Beach of the upstate.

Oconee County Council voted to adopt the new regulations for lakes Keowee, Jocassee, and Hartwell. As expected, the new law enforces a 25-foot pesticide-free buffer along the shoreline of every future development. As was mentioned, this will definitely affect the number and type of development in the county from now on. I expect Anderson County to pick up some of the new projects.
