When are going to have our BOOM. You know like Miami and Chicago,
It feels to me like we ARE in a massive boom!! I guess I'm comparing it to the slow times we've had when not much of anything went on for years.

But think about it. We've got several major new urbanist developments like Atlantic Station and Glenwood Park. We've got tons of condo towers going up in Midtown, and several in Buckhead and downtown. We've got major new office towers going up in Downtown, Midtown and Buckhead. The airport is undergoing colossal improvements. Downtown is full of new residential life. We're on the brink of starting transportation projects like the Beltline and the Streetcar which have captured national attention. We've just opened the world's largest aquarium. We're expanding our arts centers phenomenally so that they are becoming true world class facilities. The world famous CDC is spending billions on new construction. Universities such as Georgia Tech, Emory and Georgia State are all undergoing huge expansion programs that blend them even more into the urban fabric. Neglected older neighborhoods such as Kirkwood, Oakhurst, Capitol View, the Westside, and many, many others are vibrant with new life. Other old neighborhoods like Virginia Highlands, Buckhead, Grant Park and Druid Hills are glowing like never before. We've probably got the country's finest classic theatre house. The Atlanta History Center continues to expand. Vacant and underdeveloped land is being filled with (at least in many cases) intelligent infill. We've got one of the country's most celebrated mayors. Our musical artists are at the top of the chart. Our retail has become by far the most significant in the Southeast. We've got new hotels, sports arenas, performance venues and world class restaurants coming out of our ears. We're acquiring an amazing former military basis right in the heart of the city. Streets and bridges and other critical infrastructure are undergoing gigantic redevelopment.

And the list goes on and on! How could this not be a boom? We also can't forget that edge cities like Perimeter, Galleria, Alpharetta and others are exploding, and some of them are maturing into sophisticated urban centers. I think Atlanta is booming like crazy!

Well when you put it that way, it really is amazing how much actually IS going on.

I think Student was just referring to the fact that those cities are experiencing phenominal skyscraper booms right now.

I agree Andrea! This is biggest surge in development in 20 years. The best part about it is that almost all of the projects inside the perimeter appear to be working towards knitting the urban fabric back together. Unlike a lot of the big projects from the 70's and 80's. Most of the developers and architects are recognizing that these buildings and developments are tied to one another.

I personally, can't wait to see what this city is going to be like in 5-10 years. The increased density along Peachtree, the Streetcars running along it, a commuter rail system running to a central terminal, the first developments along the beltline - this city will be very different.

Georgia sees profits/growth in biotech development. I thought this was an interesting article and overall good news. The article states that in 2004, Ga ranked 8th among the states in number of biotech companies; and in 2000, the ranking was 12th. In 1995, the state didn't even rank. That's quite impressive and worth some discussion. The Ga Research Alliance(a public-private coalition of some of the states top executives and university leaders) stated their goal to have more biotech companies than NC-with it's well-established Research Triangle-by 2012! I didn't realize our biotech industry was growing so rapidly. The article was in today's AJC and only a small article. I quoted almost the entire article but here's the articles website http://www.ajc.com/business/content/busine...iotechside.html I'm not very good w/ comp. so I can't make a direct link.

It automaticly makes a direct link; you learn something new everyday.

Can someone please explain to me the little squares under the avatars as well as "crossroads", "unincorporated area", "Whistle Stop". If I wanted to change mine, how would I go about doing that?

It is related to the number of posts you have. The more posts you have, the more squares you get and your title changes. I don't think you can change it.

I just got back from Centennial Olympic Park in Atlanta. I am now a man in the latter stages of frostbite. Anyone who still thinks I am a living thing is sadly mistaken.

I didn't get to ice skate (something I decided not to do when i was told the line was 1 hours worth of a wait from where I was). Instead, I just wandered about the park with my family and some friends taking pictures. A few choice words were said.

Expect the pics in a few days. :)
