Nashville Update: Baseball and Symphony

Sometimes it feels like the city changes overnight, and maybe that indeed is happening. In addition to the new 22-story condo just announced for the West End/Broadway area, downtown received quite a boost with the announcement of the go ahead for the new downtown AAA baseball stadium and residential/retail development. Mayor Purcell had been relentless in his insistance that the project keep public responsibility to the absolute minimum and apparently the stance has held.

This is an exciting time for us here. The project has been expanded from 11 to 16 acres of prime riverfront downtown property. Immediately adjacent to that is the 35+ acre blufftop Rolling Mill Hill development which is currently clearing the land of useless old 50s and 60s buildings to expose the soon to be rehabbed deco hospital building (for residential) and others much older to create an urban neighborhood of perhaps as many as 2,000 residential units. Infrastructure work, including the burying of utilities is underway.

I think they are still debating the use of the property after the Sounds move. There have been several proposals for it and I will see if I can find the thread. I dont think a decision has been made yet.
