I know many in northwest Louisiana have seen the news dominated by word of the Haynesville Shale.

With that in mind i have found a great site, that i joined, and it has news, info and meeting times for individuals with questions about mineral rights.

www.haynesvilleshale.ning.com

Check it out and maybe you can attend a meeting and find out if you can join your local coalition of residents looking for a fair share of the natural gas pie.

This made the news in the New York Times earlier in the week!

Gas Rush Is On, and Louisianians Cash In

A no-holds-barred, all-American gold rush for natural gas is under way in this forgotten corner of the South, and De Soto

Parish, with its fat check from a large energy company this month, is only the latest and largest beneficiary.

I know a lot of highly-educated professionals from this region who have penned letters to the New York Times for their portrayal of our region in the above-mentioned article as poor, uneducated, and forgotten. I thought about writing them as well, but my days of writing letters about every little thing that pisses me off are over.

We suddenly have millions - perhaps even billions - of new dollars in our local economy because of this, and yes, quite a few people have become millionaires overnight. But we have flashy, multi million-dollar casinos and other developments lining our river, all of which were here before the "Haynesville Shale" money. Perhaps we are a forgotten area, but 14 million people every year seem to remember us so we must be doing something right.

I have been to Dallas twice in the past month, and each time I told many people I was from Shreveport. There was not a single person I spoke to who didn't know where Shreveport was or who hadn't been here recently to spend their money in our area. As a matter of fact, an entrepreneur friend of mine who recently moved back home to Dallas from Shreveport, told me he wishes he still lived here. It's much easier to do business here, and the atmosphere is much more friendly and welcoming than the sprawling metropolis of DFW.

Over the past few years I have met people from the DFW area who knew all about Shreveport-Bossier City but knew absolutely nothing about some of the suburbs right in their own area. I suppose New York is too good to remember who we are, but a huge percentage of the 6 million-plus people in the DFW area know who and where we are, and that's all that matters to me.

That entire article was bullsh....well, you know what I mean. I am also fed up with reading these demeaning articles. It seems like they get off bashing us about any good that is done here. From the Independence Bowl to the movie industry to now the Haynesville Shale it's always negative. Just once I would like for us not to be the pot shot of some sorry a-hole with a deadline at a big newspaper. I am tired of it. Apparently none of these jerks moms ever taught them that old saying, " if you can't say anything nice, then don't say anything at all."

Teddy Allen poked fun at this NY Times right up today in the Shreveport Times. If you care to read, here's the link: How to spend some 'fun money' in DeSoto Parish

My bad yall.... I should have read the article alot closer. It was not my intention to upset anybody. I do sincerly apologize. I'd be(and am) pretty upset too. Guess I shouldn't be too suprised though; these are the same chumps that hate on the SEC and LSU in Football. I think it's a combination of a little jealousy, ignorance, and arrogance from the NY Times people about the South.

If they did their homework they would realize SBC is definitely NOT forgotten! The prospects of landing the Cyber Command Center should be a wake-up call to these idiots!

Nah. It's cool. I'd heard about it, but just not looked for it, so today was the first time I read it. Anyway, could you expect anything less from the likes of the NY Times?

I'd like to hear about people that have made bank from leasing their mineral rights. I will totally miss out because I live in a fairly new development and know I will not have any mineral rights. I believe there will be many lawsuits coming. I know that Brown Builders is already being sued over several of their developments. My parents and brother should make some money because they should have their mineral rights. My sister and her husband signed a contract, but have now found out that someone else leased their rights back in April. This is property (3 acres) where there were no mineral rights reserved and they have lived there 8 or 9 years. They stand to lose a lot of money. I think the law is that if reserved it must be drilled within 10 years? I see so many of these cases coming. I believe that if you buy the dirt, everything underneath it should be included too. It's just more of the rich getting richer. It's unfortunate there are so many snakes out there.

Richy, don't sweat it man. It's clear that you meant no harm in your post. You saw an article about the article done by the NY Times, and clearly thought "this is cool." I thought the same thing until I read it. But by the time I had finished reading it I was pretty sick to my stomach. Celebrity blogger Perez Hilton recently had some not-so-nice things to say about Shreveport regarding the bar brawl that Josh Brolin and other movie stars/crew members were involved in here. Not that I really care what he has to say, as I don't consider a "celebrity blogger" to be a source of worthwhile information, but his negativity just ticks me off in addition to the NY Times article.
