South Carolina Nature Conservation

South Carolina has bought the 1,540-acre Heritage Tract near Great Falls after three years of negotiations, preserving one of the largest undeveloped tracts on the Catawba River. When combined with land they already bought, it will total nearly 4,000 acres and will be the largest tract of undeveloped property on the entire 225-mile stretch of the Catawba between Lake James west of Hickory, NC and Lake Wateree north of Columbia, SC.

How close is this tract to Landsford Canal State park? That is one of my favorite parks in the interior of the state and a real jewel, worth going to any season of the year. Were it not for the occasional air plane flying over, you are some real deep wilderness at that part of the river.
