Sevierville's billion dollar highway project

Recommended Posts

A story in the Knoxville News-Sentinel reports that Sevierville is expecting $1 billion in commercial (retail, residential, and entertainment) growth in association with the road enhancement of US 66 through Sevierville. A major element of which will be the 241,000 sq/fit Sevierville Events Center at Bridgemont, a mixed use convention, residential, retail, and resort project. This project alone could produce 3,200 jobs, 600 million in revenue, and 90 million in payroll annually! It is also projected to bring in over 2 million visitors a year, making it the state's 3rd most visited destination!

This sounds like a great development for the tourist trade and economy of Sevierville and East Tennessee. What does everybody else think?

Only $90M for 3200 jobs? I guess its good to see jobs at all, but its a shame they only average $28k/yr. They will probably be lower than that, considering the top 10% will probably take home 25-30% of the money. =/

Wow! That's really an amazing amount of development slated along that road. And it's great that so many jobs are being created there. My concern, however, is that despite the widening, the traffic is still horrendous, and will get even worse with all this new development. I think the area will need another road (a bypass maybe?) in order to improve the situation.
