This article uses 'metro' in terms of the old Richland-Lexington MSA, not the current MSA/CSA counties. Click here to see the population statistica and counties that are not inclued in the Columbia Metro.

Columbia Metro Employment Figures

The metro area has one of the lowest unemployment rates in the state.

The rate has been inching up since 1998 and the area has lost jobs a record four years in a row.

Of the 18,100 jobs lost in South Carolina since 1999, 12,300 were in the Columbia metro area.
