Acting as your own contractor

An article from the Greenville News about a national company that has opened their 3rd SC franchise here in Greenville. It's a company called Ubuildit, and it's a company that acts as consultants for people that want to be there own contractor on their house.

Is this fairly common....for people to act as their own contractor? Would any of you do this? Seems like an idea I'd like to try, but I have nowhere near the skill set. Wouldn't this require some refined skills and knowledge of construction? :dontknow:

It helps to have a solid knowledge of the complete construction process, but I know people who have tried to do this without any prior relative knowledge. I would recommend finding someone you trust (with the knowledge & experience) to help you get through the process. Going alone can be one of the most stressful and discouraging moments in life.
