Las Colinas LIVE! is a public/private mixed-use development planned for 40 acres in Las Colinas. The project will contain a convention center, equestrian arena, concert hall, boutique hotel, and restaurant/retail space. The project will place an emphasis on technology.

"We can do a pay-per-view and put it into China, instantly, all from Las Colinas Live, and so that's what we find to be exciting," said developer Bill Beuk.

The theater itself seats about 7,500 people but because of the technology infrastructure and a partnership with Alcatel, a performance at Las Colinas LIVE could be simultaneously broadcast around the world or on any digital media platform.

Water Street is another mixed-use project planned by Gables Residential on 13-acres at O'Conner Blvd and Las Colinas Blvd. The ~$400 million project will contain apartments, condominiums, a hotel, office space, and retail space. It will also be near a future DART light-rail stop. Water Street could be open in 2010.

Las Colinas will be one of the first locations for a new concept by Starwood Hotels. It will be an upscale extended-stay hotel called Element. Sava Group will be developing the hotel that will be located at the southwest corner of I-635 and Belt Line Road. Element will open in 2008.

Element, which falls under the Westin Hotels & Resorts umbrella, represents Starwood's effort to break into a category often associated with budget vanilla boxes and cramped kitchenettes.

Element's design includes a water feature and an outdoor area with a fire pit and barbeque. Westin customers also will enjoy familiar features such as the signature scents, "heavenly" beds and workout facilities.
